Martinez wants SIX new signings (with a transfer kitty of more than £20m) to make Everton a European force

Roberto Martinez is targeting six new summer signings as he starts preparing for a campaign that should see Everton return to Europe.

Everton are bearing down on Arsenal, competing for fourth place in the Barclays Premier League.

They have six points to make up and even if they fall short, it is likely Everton will secure a spot in the Europa League. Martinez feels he will need six signings to cope with Europe and will have a transfer kitty of more than £20million.

Settled in well: The Toffees are ready to bid for on-loan Romelu Lukaku if Chelsea are to let the striker go

General: It is expected that Gareth Barry will make his move from Manchester City permanent

Potential coup on the cards: Martinez wants to bring Jack Rodwell back to Goodison Park from City

The Spanish boss is keen to bring Jack Rodwell back to Goodison Park from Manchester City, while Everton will also bid to sign Romelu Lukaku if Chelsea let the Belgian striker leave. Gareth Barry should also become a permanent signing.

‘Whether we are in Europe or not is a big factor,’ said Martinez. ‘We’ve got money but I didn’t think spending in January was the right thing to do. If we get in Europe I think that makes a difference of six players. I always found you can work on a squad of 21 players in the league and for domestic competitions.

‘You need around 27 players plus keepers for Europe. It doesn’t have to be 27 senior players, it can be young players too, but 27.

‘We have identified what we need for next season in terms of the areas, and then you start working on your wish-list. If you get into the Champions League you can look for your number one choice. If not, you’re going to number four, five, six and maybe seven or eight. But we have got the money and it is there to be spent.’

City and United on alert as Barcelona's Halilovic move thrown into doubt

The Croatian starlet, dubbed the "next Lionel Messi", had provisionally agreed to join the Catalan club but could miss out due to their impending transfer ban.

City and United have both been put on alert after Barcelona's move for Alen Halilovic was thrown into doubt by news of a transfer ban.

The Spanish side have been handed a year-long transfer embargo by FIFA, having been found guilty of breaching rules regarding the signing of young players.

Halilovic's transfer from Dinamo Zagreb was never under investigation but, as the move was agreed outside of the transfer window, it is uncertain whether it will go through in the summer.

The 17-year-old, who has been dubbed "the next Lionel Messi" by a number of observers, already has three senior Croatia caps to his name.

He made his debut for Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16 years and 112 days, and has played a prominent role in the club's first-team setup since, despite his tender years

A number of Europe's big-hitters were believed to be chasing his signature prior to Barca announcing a €2.2m deal and five-year contract had been agreed in March.

But, with FIFA's sanctions coming down with immediate effect, it is uncertain whether the deal can now go through.

That could prompt a secondary fight for Halilovic's signature, with United and City likely to get involved among a number of top European sides.

Barca could also see a move for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen blocked, despite suggestions that a deal has already been agreed.

Anelka set to partner Ronaldinho in Brazil, says Atletico Mineiro president

Nicolas Anelka could soon line up alongside Brazil superstar Ronaldinho at Atletico Mineiro, according to the club's president Alexandre Kalil.

The Copa Libertadores holders' supremo appeared to confirm the move on Twitter following a series of reports about the next move for the 35-year-old Frenchman after his contract was terminated at the Baggies.

'Anelka is a rooster,' Kalil tweeted in reference to the club's cockerel mascot.

Ready to crow: Nicolas Anelka's next club could be Ateltico Mineiro in Brazil alongside Ronaldinho

Anelka left West Brom in disgrace after his deal was torn up for 'gross misconduct' after he was handed a five-match suspension for using an anti-Semitic quenelle gesture in December.

If Anelka goes to Belo Horizonte it would be the 12th club for the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Arsenal player, including loans, and the seventh league of his career.

While the deal is conceivable, Anelka himself has said he's in no hurry to play again this season despite widespread offers.

Journeyman: If Anelka goes to Brazil, it will be the seventh league the striker has played in and his 12th club

Limelight: Ronaldinho moved to Atletico Mineiro in 2012

'I am not specifically looking for a club but I am receiving offers and the least I can do is check them,' he told France's Metro newspaper.

'I haven't decided anything yet. My contract with WBA officially ended on 29 March and bar a miracle, there won't be any new challenge before the next season starts, be it in Europe or in a exotic country.'

Should Anelka play again, the FA has approached FIFA to ensure their five-match ban would be enforced wherever he ends up.

Reds and Gunners eying up move for Lille's teenage striker Origi

Liverpool are watching teenager Divock Origi at Lille. The Belgium Under 21 striker interests Arsenal, too.

Origi, 18, has scored five goals in France this season.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also monitoring Julian Brandt, 17, and Son Heung-min, 21, at Bayer Leverkusen.

Battle ahead? Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing Lille's Belgium forward Divock Origi

Targets: Liverpool are monitoring Bayer Leverkusen duo Son Heung-min, left, and Julian Brandt

Meanwhile, Reds captain Steven Gerrard warned his team-mates their 10-game winning spree will mean nothing if they do not deliver the title.

Liverpool became favourites to win the Barclays Premier League after their 3-2 win over Manchester City on Sunday but Gerrard fears that ‘nobody will remember us’ if the Reds falter in the run-in.

Gerrard has demanded that Liverpool accord Norwich the same respect due to AC Milan and insisted Sunday’s trip to Carrow Road will be the biggest game his team-mates have ever played in.

‘Every game is getting bigger,’ Gerrard said. ‘Manchester City was always going to be huge because they are in the race with us but Norwich now become Manchester City.

‘Norwich become Chelsea. Norwich become Manchester United. That’s how big it is. We have to treat Norwich City like we treated AC Milan in 2005 (in the Champions League final).

‘We can’t think about what colour shirts Norwich are wearing and the personnel in them.

‘We have to treat them like the best team in the world. Ten wins in the Premier League is remarkable but you get nothing for it.'

Diego de Girolamo targeted by Juventus as Serie A clubs and Arsenal track Sheffield United's star striker

Juventus are among several Serie A clubs who are interested in Sheffield United striker Diego de Girolamo, 18.

He was born in Chesterfield but has been capped by Italy at Under 18 and Under 19 level.

Italian scouts saw him score in the recent friendly international against Germany and he has been recommended to Serie A leaders Juventus among others.

Possible Italian job? Sheffield United striker Diego de Girolamo is being watched by Juventus and has been scouted by Arsenal also

Italy’s national coaching staff rate De Girolamo highly, although he could still qualify for England.

The teenager has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blades this season but has been on the substitutes bench.

He has battled back to fitness this season after injuring a cruciate ligament playing for Italy U18s last year. He has also been watched by scouts from Arsenal.

Ezequiel Lavezzi chased by Chelsea... and Manchester United risk losing another young star in Will Keane

Chelsea are keen to speak to Paris St Germain about Ezequiel Lavezzi. The 28-year-old Argentine's representatives were in London early this month as they gauged interest for their client and Chelsea want two forwards for their summer rebuilding.

Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid is their prime objective while players such as Karim Benzema and Angel di Maria at Real Madrid have been discussed.

Chelsea will likely recall Thibaut Courtois from his loan at Atletico Madrid with Petr Cech ruled out for three months while interest is in developing in Eden Hazard's brother Thorgan with clubs in England, Germany and Italy keen to take the Belgian on loan. The 21-year-old has impressed at Zulte Waregem this season.

Touted: Lavezzi could be the next big name on his way to Stamford Bridge this summer

Arsenal are showing interest in West Bromwich Albion's versatile midfielder Kane Wilson. The 14-year-old, who goes to school in Solihull, is playing for Albion's U16s this season where he has figured in centre midfield and at right-back.

Several other Premier League academy scouts have watched Wilson over recent months as Albion's reputation for finding good young talent continues.

Liverpool have beaten Arsenal to the signing of Albion's Yan Dhanda and Jerome Sinclair in recent seasons and have also looked closely at Wilson. The teenager, who lists Marco Reus and Cristiano Ronaldo among his favourite players, already has sponsorship from Adidas.

Wanted: The highly-rated Calum Chambers is being chased by both Arsenal and Manchester United

Arsenal, meanwhile, have made a lucrative contract offer to 16-year-old Chris Willock who has attracted strong interest from Manchester United. Willock, whose elder brother Matthew has signed a one year professional deal at United, is very highly regarded and tipped to breakthrough into the first team over the coming months.

Manager Arsene Wenger is keen to keep developing young British players as well as recruiting from abroad. Talks have already been held with Southampton over 19-year-old right-back Calum Chambers, as reported in Sportsmail last month, who was also wanted by Manchester United.

Manchester United risk losing another of their promising young stars after failing to agree terms on a new deal for striker Will Keane.

The 21-year-old, who has been on loan at Wigan and QPR this season, is out of contract in the summer and is attracting interest from home and abroad.
The scenario has the worrying hallmarks of how United lost Paul Pogba and Zeki Fryers in the past.

In an added twist, Pogba, who played alongside Keane in United's youth and reserve sides, has recommended him to Juventus after their club scouts sought an opinion on the striker.

In a team which included Pogba and Ravel Morrison, it was Keane who scored the goals, claiming three in the two-legged FA Youth Cup final against Sheffield United, which United won 6-3 on aggregate.

In 2010, he won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Danny Welbeck, Wes Brown, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes.

Ready to go: Will Keane is poised to leave Manchester United this summer

Keane was making rapid progress in United's reserves up until suffering a cruciate ligament injury while playing for England U19s in May 2012. It kept him out for the following season but he returned last September to score in his comeback game a 4-1 win over Bolton U21s.

He scored three goals in his next two games and was then loaned to Wigan. A groin injury curtailed his time there and he has since been at QPR.

Although it has been evident he has yet to show his old match sharpness, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Wigan and Norwich have all been monitoring his performances recognising his potential to kick on once again.

Southampton are among clubs chasing Nice defender Timothee Kolodziejczak who is regarded as the best left-back in France.

His former club Lyon and Marseille are also trailing the 22-year-old who is valued at £7million.

Due to the difficulty of pronouncing his surname, he is a commonly referred to as 'Kolo' and turned down a move to Manchester United as a teenager while at Lens.

Potential: Nice's French defender Timothee Kolodziejczak (right) could be on his way to the south coast

A former teammate of Chelsea midfielder Gael Kakuta, he is eligible for Poland through his Polish-born father but has represented France at all levels up to U20.

Kolodziejczak has the added bonus that he is 6ft 1in tall whereas most left-backs that the top clubs look at are shorter.

Southampton are weighing up alternatives with Luke Shaw set to join Manchester United in the summer.

Belgian prospect Axel Frix has confirmed trials this week at Tottenham. The 16 year-old left-back plays for OH Leuven and is also interesting Anderlecht. Frix posted on Facebook: 'Ready for a week training with Totenham (sic) # love football'

Tottenham remain keen on Anderlecht's 16-year-old winger Ismail Azzaoui.

Alexandre Lacazette interesting Liverpool while Arsenal and Newcastle are also keeping tabs on Lyon striker

Liverpool have joined the list of clubs who have expressed an interest in Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The 22-year-old has scored 17 goals this season and has also been watched by Newcastle, Arsenal and Juventus while Everton made an enquiry earlier this year.

Lacazette has a contract with Lyon until 2016, and the club have claimed he will stay for at least another season. But Lyon are vulnerable to offers as they have financial problems.

Interest: Newcastle, Arsenal and Juventus have also been keeping tabs on the young Frenchman

Liverpool are weighing up numerous targets as they prepare to bolster their squad for Europe next season with the prospect of a return to Champions League football set to help them attract bigger names.

Meanwhile, Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says he wants to sign loanee Oussama Assaidi on a permanent deal from Liverpool this summer.

Hughes is also keen on teenage striker Petros Skapetis at Queens Park Rangers. The 19-year-old Australian is out of contract this summer.

Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG in race to sign £40m Karim Benzema... as Real Madrid set sights on Sergio Aguero or Luis Suarez

Real Madrid will listen to offers for Karim Benzema this summer.

The France striker is one of the best strikers in Europe but the Spaniards want to improve their side further and see the recruitment of a new No 9 as a step forward.

The 26-year-old has scored 22 goals in all competitions for Madrid this season including the vital winner in the Champions League semi final first leg against Bayern Munich.

He has helped Gareth Bale fit in well alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria but Madrid are to make changes.

Up for grabs: Real Madrid are prepared to sell striker Karim Benzema this summer

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain will all show an interest with Real looking for a fee similar to the £42.5million they received for Mesut Ozil.

The downside for English clubs could be where Madrid search for a replacement. The stand-out candidates are Sergio Aguero at Manchester City and Liverpool's PFA Player of the Year Luis Suarez.

Neither club wishes to sell, with both taking steps in recent months to ensure their star men feel wanted and that their ambitions are shared.

Liverpool's owners have shown a resilience to keep Suarez at Anfield, notably rebuffing Arsenal's attempts last year, while City have also held meetings with Aguero lately to underline their commitment to him.

Should Madrid persist, push for a deal and turn either player's head, then they will have to begin talking in huge figures with Suarez rated at £100m and Aguero not far behind.

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is another Premier League option for ambitious Inter Milan.

The Belgium star, who turned 27 last week, will not be short of suitors should he leave White Hart Lane this summer.

Barcelona and Roma have also considered the former Ajax captain, who is back in full training following an ankle injury and completed 90 minutes for Tottenham Under 21s in the 4-2 win over Reading at Stevenage on Sunday.

Inter have already signed Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United and are keen on Fernando Torres, Edin Dzeko and Bacary Sagna among others.

Tottenham face an overhaul of their squad this summer and remain keen on West Ham's Winston Reid.

Don't worry, Jan: Spurs defender Vertonghen has no shortage of suitors across Europe

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce was in the stands at Anderlecht versus Standard Liege in Belgium on Sunday.

Allardyce was understood to be checking on long-term target Cheikhou Kouyate.

The 24-year-old has been consistently linked with Arsenal over the past 18 months and Allardyce wanted to check out his scouting reports.

He made a personal check while also taking the opportunity to weigh up other players in the game such as Liege's £8m-rated striker Michy Batshuayi.

Kouyate, who represents Senegal, can play at centre back or in midfield and started in the holding role for Anderlecht as Allardyce watched. Anderlecht ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a goal from teenage Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Up in the air: Cheikhou Kouyate (left) is sent flying by Standard Liege's Yoni Buyenson Sunday

Wigan chief scout Tony Coton watched Diafra Sakho in action for Metz against Auxerre at the weekend.

The 24-year-old Senegal striker scored with six minutes remaining to secure a 3-0 win. Sakho's goals have helped guide Metz to promotion from Ligue 2 this season but he wants to leave with top clubs in France, Germany and England showing an interest.

Marseille and Newcastle are among the clubs to have watched him this season and Uwe Rosler is interested should Wigan gain promotion. Sakho has scored 19 goals so far this season.

In form: Wigan could face competition from Newcastle and Marseille for Diafra Sakho of Metz

Rochdale's elation at promotion to League One could be tempered by news that Leeds United are keen on young forward Scott Hogan.

The 22-year-old has scored 19 goals this season, including one in Rochdale's 2-0 FA Cup victory over Leeds in January.

The Yorkshire club's manager Brian McDermott and recruitment director Luke Dowling were in the stands to watch Hogan during the recent 3-0 defeat by Southend where they also watched visiting goalkeeping Daniel Bentley.

Unfortunately, Hogan went off injured early on but Leeds have maintained an interest and are weighing up a bid this summer.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is looking at former club Cagliari for the likes of Colombia striker Victor Ibarbo and Brazilian midfielder Danilo Avelar but will still want to bring in players who are used to the English game.

Scouted: Leeds have been monitoring Rochdale's 22-year-old forward Scott Hogan in recent weeks

Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat said Sunday's 5-1 win over Cambuur could prove to have been his last game at the De Kuip Stadium.

Janmaat has been watched by Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Leicester among others and said: 'It could be that this was my last home game but we'll head into the summer and see what happens.'

Talking to Voetbal Primeur the 24-year-old right back added: 'I certainly have no preference for a particular league or club. It just needs to be a nice club and the whole picture has to be right.'

In demand: Daryl Janmaat has been watched by Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Leicester

Juan Iturbe targeted by Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham as Premier League giants send scouts to watch Verona winger

* Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs set to watch Verona winger Juan Iturbe
* Man Utd to release youngsters Jack Barmby, Sam Byrne and Jack Rudge
* West Ham join Fulham in the pursuit of West Brom defender Billy Jones
* Leicester consider a move for Metalist Kharkiv midfielder Sebastien Blanco
* QPR scout Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong
* Paul Pogba's Juventus future set to be clarified shortly amid PSG interest

Scouts from Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are poised to watch Verona's Juan Iturbe on Monday, but they will be awaiting to see if he shakes off a thigh injury first.

The brilliant Argentinian winger is on loan from Porto but Verona are to take up the option to buy him at the end of the season and then will consider selling quickly at a profit such is their need for money.

Iturbe has been described as the 'next Lionel Messi' owing to his diminutive stature, pace and dribbling style. Although born in Buenos Aires, he was brought up in Paraguay but has switched allegiance back to Argentina and is being considered by clubs now before his price escalates further.

On his way up: Hellas Verona's Juan Iturbe is a summer target for Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham

Iturbe has scored six goals this season and his wing play has had a major bearing on veteran Luca Toni's revival with the 36-year-old now second in Italy's goalscoring charts with 19 goals.

However, Iturbe picked up a bruised thigh barely 30 minutes into last weekend's 4-0 win over Catania and is a doubt for Monday and scouts may reschedule for their game with Udinese next Saturday.

Manchester United set to release youngsters Barmby, Byrne and Rudge

Jack Barmby, Sam Byrne and Jack Rudge are among the young professionals being released by Manchester United this summer.

Barmby has been on loan at Hartlepool since the end of January and has scored five goals in 17 appearances, including two in his last two games against Morecambe and Plymouth.

The England U19 forward, son of former Tottenham and Everton midfielder Nick, has attracted attention from a few lower league and Championship clubs.

Dublin-born striker Byrne has been on loan at Carlisle. The 18-year-old figured in all of United's UEFA Youth League games.

Versatile midfielder Rudge had a spell on loan with Torquay earlier this year. The 19-year-old, who has also played at full back, has been at United since he was seven.

West Ham to go head-to-head with Fulham for Baggies' Jones

West Ham have joined Fulham by showing interest in West Bromwich Albion defender Billy Jones.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has yet to agree terms on a new deal. Although further talks are planned, the former Preston and Crewe full back will consider all options.

Albion are likely to change manager this summer but have expressed interest in Sunderland's Craig Gardner, who is out of contract.

The Premier League new boys are tweaking their squad with manager Nigel Pearson looking to bring in another goalkeeper, centre back, two strikers and midfielder.

Blanco, 26, is an Argentina attacking midfielder who has a dual Spanish passport. He can fit in comfortably on the left or right wing also. He has scored in his last two games against Dnipro and Metalurg.

Metalist value Blanco at around £6million but are struggling financially and may be willing to let him go now for as little as £2.5m.

QPR keep tabs on Dundee United midfielder Armstrong

Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong was watched by Queens Park Rangers scouts last weekend.

The 22-year-old has been one of the Tannadice club's most consistent performers and has grabbed 11 goals this season. Celtic and Everton have also watched the law student closely.

Armstrong, who grew up idolising former Chelsea midfielder Gianfranco Zola, has had good company with clubs continuing to make scouting reports on his club colleagues Andy Robertson, John Souttar and Ryan Gauld.

Pogba's Juventus future to be clarified shortly

Paul Pogba's future at Juventus could be clearer after this weekend. His agent Mino Raiola is due in Turin for talks over an improved contract amid the backdrop of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and many more.

Raiola said recently that a decision on the 21-year-old former Manchester United midfielder would not be made until after the World Cup, but Juventus want matters cleared up sooner.

Raiola will be at Thursday night’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Benfica and is likely to meet Juve executives Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici in the hope of extending Pogba's current deal by a year and trebling his net salary to around £3.8million.

Luke Shaw set for Southampton talks amid Chelsea and Manchester United interest

* Luke Shaw is valued at £30million
* Shaw wants to know whether Southampton will allow him to leave
* Youngster is a transfer target for several leading clubs in the Premier League and abroad
* Left-back is a candidate to be named in Roy Hodgson's England World Cup squad on Monday

Luke Shaw will seek talks with Southampton over his future after their final game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday.

Shaw, 18, is the subject of interest from several leading clubs in the Premier League and abroad and wants to know whether Southampton will allow him to leave.

The left-back is valued at £30million and is a candidate to be named in Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad on Monday having made his international debut earlier this year.

Talks: Luke Shaw will discuss his future with Southampton after the final Premier League game of the season

So far, Shaw has put speculation about his future to the back of his mind to concentrate on playing for Southampton but with the season drawing to a close, he doesn’t want a summer of uncertainty and is now seeking clarification from his current club.

Chelsea and Manchester United are expected to lead the bidding for the young defender who has already played 66 first-team games even though he doesn’t turn 19 until July.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid also have an interest in Shaw, who is believed to be keen on a new challenge though he will want to be confident of playing regularly at any club he joins.

The teenager has shown huge loyalty to Southampton in recent years, making a name for himself as one of the brightest talents in the country in the process.

But with England's elite clubs, in particular Chelsea and Manchester United, in the market for left-backs this summer, there is a feeling that this will be the summer he finally departs.

The urgency to sign Shaw is unlikely to be as intense beyond the summer transfer window if Chelsea and United sign alternative left-backs, an issue that his advisors are aware of.

Sevilla's Alberto Moreno and Atletico Madrid's Filipe Luis have been scouted by both clubs.

Scouted: Atletico's Filipe Luis and Sevilla's Alberto Moreno have both been watched by Chelsea and United

Southampton may be forced for financial reasons to break up the impressive young squad they have assembled at St Mary’s.

The club posted a net loss of £7.1m in their last set of financial figures and will enter the summer window owing £27m in outstanding transfer fees.

A bill of £30million will also be due for their new training ground and director Han Hofstetter has admitted: ‘It is a burden that has to be covered and will be covered.’

An added complication is the future of manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine, very popular with Southampton’s players, has just one year left on his contract on the south coast and is on Tottenham Hostpur’s shortlist to be their new manager.

Italian giants AC Milan are also interested in Pochettino.
