SIR MATT BUSBY PLAYER OF THE YEAR



The Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award is the centre-piece of Manchester United's end-of-season awards night in May - and that's because it's chosen by you, the fans.

It's a chance for supporters to recognise the season's star performer and the prestigious trophy – a bronze figurine of legendary United manager Sir Matt – has been taken home by Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy, David Beckham, Roy Keane and Eric Cantona in years gone by.

Last year David De Gea became the first goalkeeper to claim the award, and while he is the frontrunner to hold onto his crown, you can vote for any current player who has appeared for United's first team in 2014/15.

It's not the only accolade up for grabs at the Player of the Year awards ceremony on Tuesday 19 May at Old Trafford. You can also vote for Goal of the Season and U21s Player of the Year while trophies for the Players' Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year will also be presented on the night.

The awards night will be shown live on MUTV, with special guests, behind-the-scenes access and exclusive interviews.

ManUtd.com is proud to present the shortlist for Manchester United’s Goal of the Season prize, which will be decided by your votes ahead of next month’s awards night at Old Trafford.

Fans can opt for one of 10 first-team goals and the shortlist will then be whittled down to the top three contenders. A fresh vote will then decide which player walks home with the trophy from the club’s glittering ceremony on Tuesday 19 May.

Wayne Rooney won the award for his wonder-goal at West Ham last season, but will he triumph again? Two of the skipper's efforts are among the 10 nominated strikes, which are listed below:

Manchester United Player of the Year award must go to David de Gea, insists Denis Irwin

* David De Gea has been in fine form this season for Manchester United
* Former defender Denis Irwin says he deserves Player of the Year award
* Irwin also picks Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young as contenders
David De Gea, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young are Denis Irwin's top three picks for Manchester United's Player of the Year award.

The United legend believes the trio have had the biggest impact during a topsy-turvy season at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the club's official website, Irwin believes De Gea is the favourite for the award and said of the Spaniard: 'He was the only one of our players who got in the PFA Team of the Year and rightly so.


David De Gea was the only Manchester United player to be selected in the PFA Team of the Year

'He’s been tremendous for us and has got better and better with every season he’s been at the club. He’s got great command of his area and his shot-stopping is first class. He must be the big favourite to win it.'

While De Gea has saved United a plethora of points in goal this season, Rooney has earned a number of wins as captain and Irwin said: 'Wayne has done very well this season. He’s had to play in different positions for the good of the team and he’s done it, no questions asked.

He’s scored a lot of vital goals for us and has been a great leader as our captain as well. We’ve heard about the little speeches he’s made before some games and they’ve obviously had an impact on the other players which is great to see.'

Meanwhile, Ashley Young, who has enjoyed a huge upturn in form since Louis van Gaal took charge, receives Irwin's final pick

'Ashley has been a huge bonus for us this season,' said Irwin of the England international. 'He’s another player who’s had to play in a number of different positions – we’ve seen him on both wings, at left wing-back and at left-back. Wherever he’s played he’s done tremendously well and has given us good balance on the left and struck up a good partnership with Blind and Shaw.'

Tp kalo inget dia ngulur2 perpanjangan kontrak, dan kemungkinan besar pasti pergi ke real..jd ga rela aja..hehe..

Saya pribadi pilih ashley aja deh..dibandingin si kapten..hehe..
Terlepas dr si kapten yg lebih sering ga main di posisi aslinya, tp kejutan dr penampilan young muism ini, setelah dicela abis musim lalu, kayaknya patut disemangatin dengan penghargaan..hehe..
