Manchester United look to build food kiosk just YARDS away from Class of 92's hotel... which could reignite seven-year-old ROW with Gary Neville and his former team-mates

* Manchester United have applied for planning permission to install food kiosk
* The proposed food and drink outlet would be just yards from Hotel Football
* The move could spark a row with Class of 92 who own hotel outside Old Trafford

Manchester United want to build a food kiosk yards away from the Class of '92's hotel — in a bid to hoover up trade outside Old Trafford.

The club have applied for planning permission to install a food and drink facility which would intercept visitors before they can head over the bridge to the £24m facility owned by Gary Neville and fellow members of the Class of '92.

Some may view the move as an attempt to take cash from the club's legends and the potential re-igniting of a seven-year-old row dating back to the construction of the 10-storey hotel. The venue, which United objected to, operates a successful restaurant and benefits from the huge number of tourists visiting the adjacent stadium.

Man United want to build a food kiosk outside Old Trafford to hoover up matchday custom. Manchester United hope their food kiosk will intercept fans as they head to Hotel Football

Old Trafford insiders say the hotel's presence, dominating the landscape, serves as a daily reminder of a lost opportunity to increase revenue at the club.

And, while United officials insist the move is simply aimed at catering for visitors to the Theatre of Dreams, it would appear that they have now taken a step to hit back.

The club want the kiosk, which will be manned by four staff and is virtually in the shadow of the hotel, to be open seven days a week, from 6am to 7pm. After matches and events, they would like it to serve until 11pm.

The move could reignite a seven-year-old row with Gary Neville and his former team-mates. The club opposed plans for Hotel Football (right) but they were still passed unanimously

While there is already a food and drink facility inside the ground at the Red Café, many visitors head to the Megastore and have their pictures taken next to the Holy Trinity statue of Denis Law, Bobby Charlton and George Best before departing the scene. The kiosk will offer a selection of hot food and confectionery but will not serve alcohol.

It remains to be seen if Neville and Co will object to the planning application, but such a scenario is thought to be unlikely. They may well welcome the competition.

In 2012, United lodged a stinging, five-page objection to the hotel to council officials after originally backing the scheme. They claimed the development had insufficient parking and vowed to continue to oppose the proposed scheme thanks to its impact on the Old Trafford landscape and 'the club's holistic vision for the continuing enhancement of the area surrounding the stadium'.

Despite United's objection, the proposals were passed unanimously.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville feels club should sell Old Trafford naming rights and use cash to reduce match tickets to £10

* Gary Neville feels his former club should sell the naming rights Old Trafford
* The former Manchester United star feels it would be ideal to reduce ticket costs
* Neville was giving his opinion during Stan Collymore's Last Word podcast

Manchester United legend Gary Neville feels his former club should take the drastic move of selling the naming rights to their famous Old Trafford stadium, and use the cash generated to slash match tickets down to around £10.

Old Trafford, one of the most iconic and revered stadiums in world football, would likely command an astronomical fee in order to allow a sponsor to act as name replacement.

Neville therefore believes this cash injection could be used to repay the lifeblood of the football club; the supporters themselves, with particular emphasis on getting youngsters into the stadium.

Gary Neville says Man United should sell Old Trafford naming rights to lower ticket costs. Neville feels United could command around '£60, £70 or £80million-a-year' for the rights

Speaking on Stan Collymore's The Last Word podcast, Neville said: 'The Glazer family, and to be fair, they've said it for correct reasons, have said that they'll never put naming rights on Old Trafford, the brand of Old Trafford.

'I would sell the naming rights to Old Trafford if I was at Manchester United for £60, £70, £80million-a-year.

By selling the name, Neville feels United could offer seats to youngsters for as little as £10. The club legend turned pundit admits he's thought about the idea for 'many, many years'

'On the understanding that all of the money generated – £800m over ten years – would mean that the whole of the Stretford End would be £10 or £12 to get in, and a proportion of those tickets would go to young people.'

While such a move would be a controversial one, Neville feels it would be something that must be taken with full consultation and co-operation with the fans.

'It's the first time I've made that suggestion, but I've thought it for many, many years,' Neville added.

'You would consult with the fans, you've sold sponsorships in every other area of the club.

'Old Trafford is an iconic stadium in name. I'll never change calling it Old Trafford.'

'We're doing a big review in terms of where we are and what we need to do': Ed Woodward reveals Manchester United are looking at revamping Old Trafford and club's training facilities after criticism from supporters

* Manchester United have faced criticism for failing to upgrade Old Trafford
* Their Premier League rivals, such as Tottenham, boast more modern stadia
* The Red Devils are also looking to improve their training ground facilities

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has confirmed, via the United We Stand fanzine, that the club will review their Old Trafford and Carrington facilities.

The Glazer family have bore the brunt of regular criticism from supporters for failing to upgrade the Theatre of Dreams - especially in light of their Premier League rivals modernising their own stadia.

And while Woodward has revealed plans into looking into bringing their facilities up to date, he insisted that he wants to maintain the character of Old Trafford.

Ed Woodward has confirmed that Manchester United are looking to revamping their facilities. United's Old Trafford has been criticised for falling behind other Premier League grounds

'We're doing a big review in terms of where we are and what we need to do,' he told the United We Stand fanzine. 'We're also looking at the [Carrington] training ground, The Cliff, Old Trafford and Littleton Road.

'Our objectives for the stadium are for it to be safe, full and noisy. Adding more seats can influence the third one, but has to be done in the right way.

'There are no plans currently to increase capacity, but I'm not saying it can't happen long-term. If you totally change it then you can change the feel of it.

'We're looking at an investment plan while maintaining what makes Old Trafford special. Part of the allure of United or Old Trafford is the fact that it's a stadium that was built in 1910.

'Our vision for it is that we don't want to radically change that look and feel. If you have Old Trafford and you regenerate, rejuvenate and keep it modern but keep it feeling like it's Old Trafford, then that's the perfect solution for us.'

The need for upgrades and repairs at Old Trafford were made abundantly clear towards the end of last season.

A video taken before the Manchester derby showed torrents of rain gushing through the roof of the ground with seats underneath left drenched by the water.

Manchester United's potential suitors are being PUT OFF by the state of Old Trafford with club's creaking stadium in desperate need of an upgrade... but it would cost investors £200m

* Manchester United owners, the Glazers, would require £1billion to sell the club
* Financiers believe only 20 people in the world have a enough net worth to bid
* It would take the sovereign wealth of a Middle East state to buy the Glazers out
* An estimated £200million would be needed to overhaul the Old Trafford stadium

The dreadful state of Old Trafford is an impediment to anyone buying Manchester United from the Glazer family.

That is the view of corporate financiers who have detailed knowledge of the club.

The Glazers, who prize United as one of the few parts of their business empire that makes them money, would require a staggering offer of more than £1billion to sell.

Financiers believe only 20 people in the world have a high enough net worth to enter the bidding and that it would take the sovereign wealth of a Middle East state such as Saudi Arabia to buy the Americans out.

The extraordinary asking price would be compounded by an estimated £200million needed to overhaul a stadium which has been left looking antiquated by the facilities opened by Arsenal and Tottenham.

Privately, United indicate that the cost of developing their ancient, untouched South Stand to create a 90,000 stadium is unviable and impossible within the financial model on which the Glazers concluded their leveraged £790m takeover in 2005.

The £200m bill may be a conservative costing. Overhauling Old Trafford is a fiendish logistical conundrum entailing an extension up and over the adjacent railway line.

Heavy rain pours off the roof of Old Trafford during a football match at the London Olympics

Financers believe an estimated £200million would be required to overhaul the stadium. United indicate that the cost of developing their ancient, untouched South Stand is unviable

United would also require an alternative stadium while the work was done.

One of the reasons Manchester City were so attractive to Abu Dhabi in 2009 was the purpose-built stadium they could move into, with capacity to expand. But there is already evidence that investors consider United a less attractive proposition than City now.

Financiers believe it was significant that private equity giant Silver Lake invested £380m in City, rather than United, when they moved into the Premier League in November.

That investment values the City group of companies at nearly £3.8bn.

Tottenham's new stadium has made United's Old Trafford ground look outdated in comparison

The Saudis have expressed interest in United. One well-placed source suggested that there has been contact on two occasions. But the sticking point is the Glazers’ refusal to contemplate selling more than a 20 per cent stake, while the Saudis would want to take the club over — lock, stock and barrel.

With the Premier League TV rights market showing no sign of cooling off, the club’s on-field struggles are an insignificance to the Glazers. But financiers point out that prospective buyers would not want to feel they are paying over the odds.

Aside from sovereign wealth funds of Saudi magnitude, there are simply not the buyers out there. The sums currently under discussion for clubs are well below £500m — as the £340m Saudi interest in Newcastle United shows.

Approaching the 15th anniversary of the purchase of United, the Glazers show no sign of attempting to improve the governance of the club, who are currently 38 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool after 25 games.

In the last year of Sir Alex Ferguson’s management, when executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s predecessor David Gill also stepped down, they won the Premier League by 11 points — overturning the popular belief that reigning champions City would eclipse them.

Woodward said in November that he did not think the Glazer family were looking to sell.

He told the magazine United We Stand: ‘Based on what I see, they’re in it for the long-term. My understanding is that there have been no discussions for a price for the club or anything like that.

‘Every conversation we have is based on the long term.’

Manchester United set to turn up the volume by extending the singing section inside the Stretford End to at least 2,000 fans to improve the matchday atmosphere at Old Trafford

* Manchester United will bolster their singing section inside the Stretford End
* There will be at least 2,000 fans in the area at Old Trafford to add atmosphere
* United say they hope revive the Stretford End as 'the heartbeat of our support'

Manchester United are increasing the size of the Stretford End Right Side to at least 2,000 fans to further improve the atmosphere inside Old Trafford.

The stadium witnessed one of its rowdiest occasions for some time on Sunday when United beat City 2-0 in the 182nd Manchester derby.

The dedicated singing section in the Stretford End Right Side has played its part in creating a better atmosphere inside the ground, with United also hoping to add rail seating in future. It currently holds between 1,000-1,400 supporters per game, but that figure will go up to a minimum of 2,000.

Manchester United are increasing the singing section in the Stretford End to 2,000 fans

It was among a number of measures announced by United on Monday morning which include freezing season ticket prices for the ninth season in a row.

Group managing director Richard Arnold said: 'I want to place on record our appreciation of the hard work and dedication from the organisers of the atmosphere section. The phenomenal support the team get has been taken to a new level by this successful initiative.

'We will be seeking to build on this next season by extending this section of the Stretford End out towards the south-west corner, increasing the allocation to at least 2,000 supporters.

'We have worked closely with fan groups and through the fans' forum to help achieve this shared goal of reviving the Stretford End to its traditional status as the heartbeat of our matchday support.

'We have also submitted a proposal to the local authority to trial a rail seating area within the stadium.

'Our belief is that the introduction of rail seating would enhance spectator safety in areas of the stadium where, as with other clubs, we have seen examples of persistent standing. We hope to have news on our application soon.'

United have also announced plans to relocate the family section to premium seats in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and will complete an £11m project to install state-of-the-art accessible facilities for disabled supporters.

United have also announced the family section will be relocated to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand

Arnold added: 'We do appreciate that there is an element of change for some fans as we reorganise where groups are based within the layout of the stadium and thank them for their co-operation.

'Families who move to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand will hopefully enjoy the view from their new seats in what is a premium part of the stadium.

'As Old Trafford celebrates its 110-year anniversary, these investments demonstrate our commitment to maintaining its status as one of Europe's leading football stadiums whilst preserving its unique and iconic character.'

GREEN LIGHT FOR UNITED'S BARRIER-SEATING TRIAL

Manchester United has confirmed approval from Trafford Council for a barrier seating-trial to take place at Old Trafford.

United submitted a proposal to the local authority earlier in the year, following changes to the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide) and a subsequent feasibility study, which was carried out by the club. Approval for this was confirmed to supporters' representatives at last week’s Fans’ Forum and follows longstanding discussions held with Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) and the Fans’ Forum in recent years.

The approval from Trafford Council is an agreement in principle for the club to install around 1,500 barrier seats in the North-East Quadrant, in sections N2401 and N2402. United will now discuss installation options with potential suppliers, working within current UK Government recommendations relating to construction site operating procedures and social distancing. Discussions will also take place with the SGSA to ratify the required amendments to the club’s stadium licence.

Managing director Richard Arnold said: “It should be stated, up front, that our overwhelming priority is to keep our people safe from the COVID-19 pandemic. It may seem strange to talk about stadium plans at this time, but football and our fans will return when it is safe, and our preparations for that must continue in the background.
“This announcement is the latest step in what has been a long journey with our fans. We have listened to their feedback, in particular, the representations made by MUST, and worked with Trafford Council to develop and approve this proposal.

“Our belief is that the introduction of barrier seats will enhance spectator safety in areas of the stadium where – as with other clubs – we have seen examples of persistent standing. It also allows us to future-proof the stadium in the event of any changes to the current all-seater stadium policy. If the trial is successful, we may consider further implementation of barrier seating in other parts of the stadium.

“We will now move on to develop the installation, compliance and licensing plan for the trial, with a view to having the new seats installed for when we can welcome our supporters back to Old Trafford.”
The barrier-seating trial is part of our broader plans to develop the stadium in ways which enhance the matchday experience for supporters. Separately, in February, United announced the extension of the atmosphere section in the Stretford End in the south-west corner as part of the season-ticket launch for 2020/21.

Arnold concluded: “Both of these initiatives underline our commitment to the continued improvement of Old Trafford, with a focus on further enhancing the matchday experience, atmosphere and safety for all supporters.”

MU Bersiap Kosongkan Old Trafford Hingga 2021
Yanu Arifin - detikSport

Manchester - Manchester United dikabarkan mengosongkan Stadion Old Trafford sampai 2021.

UNITED FAN RAFFLES OFF REPLICA OLD TRAFFORD

American architect David Resnick has built a model Old Trafford stadium and is giving Manchester United fans the chance to own it by entering his charity raffle.

The miniature replica is a 1:1,500 scale of the Theatre Dreams and is complete with Munich Tunnel, illuminated Manchester United sign and includes the sounded area and landmarks.

David built the model to raise funds for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity and is donating it via a charity raffle, with tickets on sale for £10.

The US-based sports enthusiast, who estimates he will have committed over 280 hours of his personal time to build the replica, is willing to post it to anywhere in the world, so make sure to enter here!

“I am a huge sports fan and when I lived in the UK a few years ago, I went to see a few matches at Old Trafford and realised for myself what hallowed ground it is,” David told the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

“It’s a ground that holds a lot of memories and a place many people hold in high esteem – so part of what I do was about thinking how I recreate that in miniature form.

“Whoever wins the raffle will be owning something very unique and one-of-a-kind. It would be a real collector’s item for someone who is a true Manchester United fan.”

Jo Thomas, one of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity’s Community Fundraising Officers, said: “David’s work looks incredible – I’m only sad I won’t get to the see the final stadium up close for myself.“
