Manchester United blow as Barcelona enter Antoine Griezmann transfer race

Manchester United will have to compete with Barcelona to sign Antoine Griezmann next summer, according to reports.

The Atletico Madrid attacker was heavily linked with a transfer to Old Trafford in the summer, but United were unable to prize him away from Spain.

Griezmann decided to stay after Atletico were hit with a transfer ban, but he remains on United’s ‘agenda’.

But, Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo claim that agenda could be wrecked by Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann is expected to leave Atletico next summer

Barcelona are targeting a massive summer overhaul of players after a frustrating window that saw them lose Neymar and miss out on Philippe Coutinho.

And the Catalan giants have made poaching Griezmann from Atletico their No.1 priority next year.

Barcelona want any deal for Griezmann to be done before the World Cup in Russia.

The tournament kicks off in middle of the June with stars across the world linking up with their international squads soon after the end of the club season.

Griezmann is a nailed on started for France and has been their most influential player in the last 18 months.

Manchester United dealt blow in Antoine Griezmann pursuit as forward admits it would be a dream to play with PSG duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe

* Manchester United made Antoine Griezmann a main transfer target last summer
* The forward then killed off hopes of a deal by penning a new contract in Madrid
* Paris Saint-Germain recruited a star-studded forward line during the summer
* And Griezmann said it would be a dream to play with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe

Antoine Griezmann has fuelled rumours he would prefer a move to Paris Saint-Germain over Manchester United after he admitted it would be a dream to play alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

United's hopes of capturing the forward last summer came shuddering to a halt when he penned a new contract which will keep him at Wanda Metropolitano until 2022.

Despite Griezmann's new deal, the 26-year-old has revealed that the prospect of becoming part of Unai Emery's vaunted strike force would appeal to him.

When asked by Telefoot whether it would be a dream to link up with PSG's star duo of Neymar and Mbappe, the Atletico star simply replied: 'Yes.'

Griezmann gave United fans hope of a potential switch during the last transfer window when he candidly rated his chances of joining the Red Devils at six out of 10.

But he now appears to have poured cold water over the idea of a move to Old Trafford.

Antoine Griezmann admitted he would love to play with PSG duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The news will come as a blow to Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who is an admirer. Griezmann, who plays with Mbappe for France, revealed it would be a dream to play at PSG. PSG have built a vaunted forward line and Griezmann would relish the chance to add to it. A move to Parc des Princes would see Griezmann link up with Mbappe on a weekly basis

When asked whether he spoke to United boss Mourinho — who is a huge admirer of the France international — on the phone regularly, Griezmann answered: 'No.'

After a sensational campaign last term, the Atletico talisman has failed to hit the ground running in the same vein in this.

With just three goals in 13 outings for the Madrid outfit so far this season, Griezmann will hope to rekindle his form of old in order to mount a challenge on early La Liga pace-setters Barcelona.

Barcelona 'agree deal in principle' to sign Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann as Catalan side steal a march on Manchester United

* Highly rated France and Atletico Madrid striker could join Catalan side next year
* Diego Simeone's side agreed deal in principle according to reports in France
* Manchester United have previously been linked with move for forward
* Griezmann's Atletico deal saw buy-out clause double from £85million to £170m

Barcelona have 'agreed a deal in principle' to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman has long been linked with a move to Manchester United but it appears the Catalan club have stolen a march on Jose Mourinho's side.

According to Le 10 Sport the La Liga-leading side are now in pole position to sign the Frenchman who has underwhelmed so far this season.

Many anticipated the 26-year-old sealing a move to Old Trafford in the summer but Atletico's transfer ban, upheld by FIFA, meant Simeone held onto his main man.

And the Spanish side strengthened their hand even more when Griezmann agreed a new deal, doubling his release clause from £85million to £170m.

Atletico Madrid and France star Antoine Griezmann is a transfer target for Barcelona. Atletico have 'agreed a deal in principle' with Barcelona for Griezmann's transfer

The Frenchman has not yet reached the dizzying heights of last season however, scoring only three goals in all competitions.

He cut a frustrated figure in Atletico's recent La Liga clash with Deportivo La Coruna and was subbed off with the scores level in the second half.

But Griezmann will no doubt be confident of a return to form and netted for France in their friendly against Wales last Friday.

Time will tell whether United will renew their interest in the former transfer target but Barcelona are in the market for a superstar to replace Neymar.

The £96m signing Ousmane Dembele presents a promising option but at just 20 years old Ernesto Valverde is evidently looking to add established international class to his star-studded ranks.

Antoine Griezmann 'wants to stay with Atletico Madrid', insists president Enrique Cerezo despite interest from Manchester United and Barcelona

* Manchester United were close to signing Antoine Griezmann in summer window
* Griezmann said earlier this week it would be a 'dream' to play with PSG's strikers
* Barcelona were in negotiations to sign Griezmann, according to reports in Spain
* Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo said Griezmann was happy at the club

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says Antoine Griezmann wants to remain at the club and believes the striker's recent comments about Paris Saint-Germain were meant as a joke.

Manchester United targeted Griezmann in the summer and were close to signing him but Atletico's transfer ban scuppered the potential deal.

Reports in Spain suggested Barcelona had since stolen a march in the race for Griezmann's signature and were already in advanced negotiations.

However Cerezo has poured cold water on any talk of Griezmann leaving the Wanda Metropolitano, insisting the Frenchman wants to remain an Atletico player.

'He wants to say here,' Cerezo told Europa Press. 'That is what he is saying and nowhere has he said he wants to leave us, in fact he has said the opposite. He has a contract with Atletico.'

Griezmann sparked speculation of a move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week when he admitted it would be a 'dream' to play with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

But Cerezo believes his star player meant the comments as a joke. 'You do not understand Griezmann, or his sense of humour,' he added.

Antoine Griezmann said it would be a 'dream' to play with PSG duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Atletico president Enrique Cerezo says Griezmann wants to remain in the Spanish capital

Cerezo then jokingly suggested PSG duo Neymar and Mbappe could join Griezmann in Madrid, saying: 'What you don't know is that maybe those two could come here.'

Griezmann looked set to leave Atletico last summer and himself rated the chances of a move to Old Trafford at 'six out of 10'.

However a FIFA ban on transfers which meant Atletico were not able to sign any players until January ended any potential move to United and his release clause was subsequently doubled from £85million to £170m.

Griezmann has failed to repeat the heroics of last season with just three goals in his first 13 appearances in all competitions.

The 26-year-old scored France's opener in their 2-0 friendly win over Wales last week. He then came on as a substitute as they drew 2-2 with Germany.

Atletico face Real in the Madrid derby on Saturday evening hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Diego Simeone's side sit eight points off leaders Barcelona in fourth place in La Liga after six wins and five draws from their opening 11 matches.

Antoine Griezmann rules out January move as Barcelona and Real Madrid target vows to help Atletico Madrid get back on track after difficult spell

* Spanish media say Real Madrid are planning swoop for Antoine Griezmann
* The Atletico Madrid star has been linked with Barcelona move next summer
* But Real are keen to pinch French star from under their rivals' noses

Atletico Madrid's France forward Antoine Griezmann has no regrets about staying at the Liga club despite a difficult start to the season which has seen him booed by his own fans.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United in the last transfer window but signed a new contract with Atletico after the club were banned from registering new players until January due to the illegal transfer of minors.

The Frenchman has endured his worst campaign so far in his four seasons with Atletico, who are in fourth place and 10 points behind Liga leaders Barcelona while also on the verge of their earliest exit from the Champions League since 2009.

Diego Simeone's side face AS Roma on Wednesday and their fate in qualifying for the last 16 is out of their hands.

'I don't regret staying, it was my choice and I would make it again even if we had lost seven games in a row,' Griezmann said in an interview with French television programme Telefoot, broadcast on Monday.

Griezmann struck three times in four games in September but is on a run of eight games without a goal for Atletico and was taken off in the last two games with the scoreline goalless.

He was booed for a lifeless display against Real Madrid on Saturday, with fans also appearing to take issue with comments Griezmann made in the French media saying he would one day like to play with Paris St Germain's Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Despite his troubles, Griezmann on Monday ruled out a quick escape from the club in the January transfer window.

'No, because Diego Costa and Vitolo are coming so we have to fight to ensure the team finishes as high as possible. I haven't spoken to the president (Enrique Cerezo) about wanting to leave,' he said.

'I haven't always expressed myself well. I said I would like to play with Neymar and Mbappe, but that doesn't mean I want to go to PSG.

'I'm happy with my games for France but only with two or three for Atletico. I have to improve and find my best form.

'It's up to me, I need to train and work, there are games when I haven't even had a shot at goal and that's my problem. I have to work hard to lift the team as high as possible.'

Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann open to Old Trafford move... but the weather may stop him

* Antoine Griezmann has not ruled out a move to Manchester United next year
* The Atletico Madrid forward said he had not made up his mind over a transfer
* He did, however, suggest that the weather in England could be a problem
* He revealed all in his new book: 'Behind the smile: The life of the little Prince'

Antoine Griezmann admits he is open to a move to Manchester United but has revealed one thing which may get in the way of his transfer.

It appears the Atletico Madrid star is somewhat concerned about the climate in the north of England.

The forward revealed all in his new autobiography, Behind the smile: The life of the little Prince.

Speaking of a potential move, Griezmann wrote in his book: 'I haven't made that decision. It all depends on various factors.

'Manchester United is a possibility.'

Jose Mourinho missed out on the forward last summer after Atletico had a transfer ban imposed on them, meaning they couldn't bring in a replacement for their talisman.

The star then signed a new contract at the La Liga club until the summer of 2022.

However, the Frenchman still looks set for a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano this year after a frustrating start to the season.

But before Manchester United fans get too excited, Griezmann offered a reason as to why he wouldn't be so keen on a move to Old Trafford,

He wrote: 'I have nothing against England - except for the weather'.

On top of their grey skies, Manchester United still face stiff competition from Barcelona to the signing of the 26-year-old.

It had been reported that an agreement was in place over Griezmann's move to the Nou Camp but the star has ruled out any potential switch this January.

Arsenal's latest transfer blunder revealed as Antoine Griezmann rules out ever making Emirates switch: 'Forget it, after the blow they gave me'

* Arsenal were eyeing up then Real Sociedad hotshot Antoine Griezmann in 2013
* Griezmann held off other suitors as he waited for Arsenal to make a move
* The Gunners informed him late in the window they would not be doing so
* Failing to land Gonzalo Higuian and Luis Suarez that summer, saw Arsene Wenger eventually snap up Yaya Sanogo, who is now playing for Toulouse

There is a long list of big name stars that Arsenal have bungled signing. Recently it was Kylian Mbappe and most famously it was Zlatan 'I don't do auditions' Ibrahimovic.

Add another name to the nearly men of north London: Antoine Griezmann. In the summer of 2013 Griezmann was coming off a season where he had broken into double figures for goals for the first time for Real Sociedad and clubs were taking note.

Specifically the then 22-year-old was attracting interest from Arsenal, with Griezmann's former agent Eric Olhats in touch with Gunners' scout Gilles Grimandi.

Antoine Griezmann has joined the long list of big name stars that Arsenal have bungled signing. In 2013 Arsenal's dallying cost them Griezmann, who has vowed he will never move there now

That same window saw Arsenal fail to land Luis Suarez with the infamous £40million and £1 bid and could only stand by as Gonzalo Higuain opted for Juventus over the Emirates.

Griezmann has revealed himself to be another potential Arsenal striker who saw his move to the Emirates collapse and as a result he has ruled out ever moving to the club.

He writes in his new autobiography of the mini-saga: 'I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting. When there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.

'Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. I don't like to be told something and for it not to happen.

'So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him "Forget it, after the blow they gave us".'

Thankfully Arsenal signed Yaya Sanogo that summer.

Barcelona president meets the family of Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann to finalise £88m move

* Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barcelona's president, meets Antoine Griezmann's family
* They met for a meal in Barcelona to finalise an £88million move for the attacker
* Griezmann is expected to join the La Liga leaders in the summer next year

Barcelona have stepped up their bid to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann.

Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu met with the Frenchman's family to finalise a deal for next summer.

Bartomeu shared a meal with Griezmann's sister, who helps manage the 26-year-old's affairs, and his parents in Barcelona.

According to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Bartomeu met to discuss the deal which is estimated to cost £87million (100m euros).

The news that Griezmann's representatives are willing to sit down with Barcelona will come as bad news for Manchester United who were also interested in adding the Frenchman to their squad.

The Catalan club are yet to make official contact with Atletico over activating Griezmann's release clause but Mundo Deportivo understands there should be no problem there, with the two club's sharing a good relationship.

Barcelona believe the deal for Griezmann represents good value for money as they look to bolster their squad with more world-class forwards.

Griezmann looked set for a move before the start of the season but a deal never materialised after the club was hit with a transfer ban, meaning they would be unable to bring in a replacement.

The upheaval during the summer seems to have been detrimental to the forward's form this season though with Griezmann failing to hit the heights he set last term.

He has scored just five goals in La Liga as was unable to help Atleti qualify through their Champions League group.

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann wants £400,000-a-week if he is to snub interest from Barcelona and join Manchester United.

The striker is believed to have been keen joining the Red Devils last year but Catalan giants Barca have since shown an interest.

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann wants £400,000-a-week to join Manchester United. The French forward has been lined up in an £89m deal by United boss Jose Mourinho

And according to The Sun, the Premier League club have now been told that their initial wage offer of £290,000-a-week is way short of what Griezmann wants.

The 26-year-old is asking for an extra £100,000-a-week on top of that having seen some of the staggering deals that have been made over the past year.

An Old Trafford source said: 'The goalposts have moved significantly since the first attempt to sign Griezmann.

'The package offered last year which was agreed is now a lot less than what he wants next summer. It might be too much even for us to afford. The club is desperate to sign him but it is an awful lot of money.

'His people are making different demands which the club might be reluctant to give in to.'

Barcelona players give approval for Antoine Griezmann swoop as they line up £88m bid for Atletico Madrid star

* Barcelona's players are keen for the club to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer
* Barca are preparing an £88m offer for the Atletico Madrid and France striker
* Tuesday's Sport newspaper mocked up Griezmann in a Barcelona shirt
* Griezmann would join the galaxy of stars already playing at the Nou Camp

Barcelona's players have given their approval for the club to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The Spanish league leaders are lining up an £88million bid for the France striker and are increasingly confident of signing a player who has scored 16 times for Atletico this season.

The front page of Tuesday's Sport newspaper has Griezmann mocked up in a Barcelona shirt and they report that their existing stars are happy for him to join.

Barcelona-based newspaper Sport have mocked Antoine Griezmann up in a Barca shirt. Barcelona are poised to make a bid of £88m for the France and Atletico Madrid striker

With Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho already in the squad, they say Griezmann, 26, would be their 'Fifth Fantastic'.

Sport point out that Barcelona have left the No 7 shirt vacant for Griezmann - the same number he wears for Atletico.

Barcelona tried to compensate for the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world record £198million last summer by buying Dembele and Coutinho.

Dembele, bought from Borussia Dortmund for £105m last summer, has struggled with injuries throughout the season and has yet to show his best at the Nou Camp.

Griezmann also featured on the front cover of Tuesday's edition of Mundo Deportivo. Griezmann could find himself playing alongside Philippe Coutinho, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi at Barcelona next season

They followed that up by signing Brazilian star Coutinho from Liverpool for £105m in January. He has so far scored twice for his new club.

The Griezmann story also features on the front cover of Tuesday's Mundo Deportivo, with the headline 'Griezmann Factor'.

They say his 'characteristics put him top of the Barcelona agenda' and that he could prove crucial when Barcelona play Atletico on Sunday night in La Liga.

Barcelona are seven points ahead of Atletico at the top of the table and have yet to lose a league game this season.
