Manchester United have joined the race to sign highly-rated Barcelona talent Jean-Clair Todibo, with the Spanish giants willing to part ways with the youngster for £17million.

The French starlet, who can play in central defence or defensive midfield, joined Barca from Toulouse for around £2million earlier this year, but could be on his way out next month.

While Spanish chiefs rate the youngster highly, limited first team opportunities has lead to an overwhelming consensus that Todibo needs first team minutes.

And, according to Sport, Manchester United could be the club to provide Todibo development opportunities, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking for midfield reinforcements with Nemanja Matic likely to leave and Paul Pogba's future uncertain.

However, the Premier League club are said to be put off by Barca's preference for a buy back clause for the youngster, as they seek to avoid their European rivals nabbing the player for a cut price fee further down the line.

United may face competition for Todibo's signature from Premier League rivals Southampton and Everton. The Toffees could be a pull for the France Under-20 international, with the club announcing Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager on Saturday.

Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan are also interested in the Frenchman, although their English counterparts are more likely to stump up the money Barcelona are seeking.

Manchester United are in danger of losing another of their young stars with Angel Gomes open to a move away from Old Trafford.

Sportsmail revealed in October that winger Tahith Chong – United’s young player of the year in 2018 – could leave the club as his contract is due to run out in the summer.

And Gomes, who was the youngest recipient of the prestigious award in 2017, is in the same situation after failing to agree terms over a new deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder is said to be unsettled and recently cast further doubt over his future at United by deleting any mention of the club from his Instagram account.

From next week, the two players are able to open talks with foreign clubs over a free transfer at the end of the season.

Gomes is believed to be attracting interest from Barcelona while 20-year-old Chong has been watched by Juventus – the same club that signed Paul Pogba on a free in 2012 before selling him back to United for a world record fee of £89million four years later.

It’s an awkward situation for United after they placed so much emphasis on youth, and homegrown players in particular, in the new set-up under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

‘Both of them are players we want to keep,’ said Solskjaer last week. ‘They’ve had a couple of niggles and injuries – Angel has been ill now for a few weeks and had a bad ankle – but they are talents and Man United people.’

Gomes and Chong featured on United’s summer tour but have failed to make the same progress this season as Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams who have both signed new contracts since being promoted to the first-team squad.

England Under-20 international Gomes became United’s youngest player since Duncan Edwards in the 50s when he made his debut against Crystal Palace in May 2017 at the age of 16 years and 263 days.

But the London-born teenager, who first attended United’s academy at the age of six, has made just seven appearances since then including his only three starts in the Europa League.

Chong has also made three starts among his 10 appearances after Solskjaer handed him a senior debut almost a year ago. The Holland Under-21 winger joined United’s academy from Feyenoord in 2016 and is being monitored by a number of European clubs as his contract winds down.

Juventus have reportedly made a breakthrough in negotiations with Manchester United to bring midfielder Paul Pogba back to the club in the January transfer window.

According to Tuttosport, an offer of 60million euros (£52million) plus Emre Can could be enough for United to 'deal immediately'.

The Italian publication adds that Pogba is fed up at Old Trafford and would be delighted to return to the Serie A club for a second spell.

Pogba made a return to United's first-team on Sunday in the 2-0 defeat by bottom of the league Watford after almost three months out with an ankle injury.

The France midfielder's contract at United expires in 18 months, meaning the club might have to consider doing business and granting his departure sooner than later or risk losing him for a less substantial fee.

Pogba rejoined United from Juventus in August 2016 in what was then a world record transfer fee of £90m after four years in Italy.

He won Serie A every season with the Italians and also lifted two Coppa Italia trophies. At United, Pogba has won the Europa League and the League Cup.

Former Liverpool midfielder Can has been demoted to a bit-part role under Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri and was left out of their squad for the Champions League.

The 25-year-old has only played seven times for Juventus so far this season.

Following Sunday's dreadful defeat by Watford, United are eighth in the Premier League and trail the top four by seven points.

They are next in action on Boxing Day when they take on Newcastle at Old Trafford.
