Arturo Erasmo Vidal Pardo

Arturo Erasmo Vidal Pardo
(born 22 May 1987) is a Chilean footballer who plays as a midfielder for Juventus and Chile national team. A un-versatile player who played one role in his early years, Vidal eventually found his position at Juventus as a world class box-to-box midfielder capable of assisting his teammates in both defense and attack. It was these displays for Juventus that led him to be nicknamed Il Guerriero ("The Warrior") by the Italian press for his hard-tackling and tenacious style of play.

At Juventus, Vidal became an integral part of the Bianconeri and has made a name for himself as one of the best in the world; Vidal credited his development and maturity as a player to club legends Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon. Vidal is also considered the most complete midfielder in the world currently due to his tackling abilities, play-making, and also his ability to support the team in both defense and attack at a high level.

In 2013, Vidal was ranked as the eleventh-best footballer in the world by Bloomberg.

On June 7th 2014, a deal was agreed between Juventus and Manchester United for an undisclosed fee believed to be around $35million. This will be Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal's first signing for the club.

Why Manchester United should break the bank for Juventus’ Arturo Vidal

Not a day has gone by, since the curtain came down on Manchester United’s worst season in decades, without the deposed English champions being linked to a posse of players. Such speculation is hardly unusual for this club but, with the World Cup in full flow and so much fantastic football for fans to feast their eyes upon, things have reached the fever-pitched crescendo of a feeding-frenzy. One player’s name, however, continues to be heard above the din: Arturo Vidal.

The last week has been a frantic one for United. Having wrapped up deals for two talented young players, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, in the space of just two days, the club’s fans, starved of excitement for what seemed like an age during David Moyes’ calamitous reign, are spinning in a dizzying daze, drunk on the delightful sense that Louis van Gaal, despite being on the other side of the world, is restoring order to their beloved club.

It is a far cry from the flailing incompetence of last summer, when United’s pursuit of various high-profile European talents could have been set to Benny Hill music and ultimately saw them end up with nothing but custard pie on their face and a grotesquely overpriced Belgian to show for it. Given that embarrassing chapter, the capture of two exciting prospects, especially given the lack of Champions League football on offer, gives United fans a reassuring sense that their club is, if not back, then certainly moving in the right direction.

There is, however, much work still to be done and executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, remains on probation. United supporters are deeply scarred by the humiliation of, not just last season, but the summer shenanigans that served as a prelude to it, when Woodward appeared to be little more than a walking omni-shambles. Herrera and Shaw are a fantastic start but United need much more.

The squad is not short of flare. The likes of Robin van Persie, Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj, Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney can all unlock the most stubborn of defences, on their day. Nevertheless, as has been the case for some time, the squad is sorely lacking in grit, power and steel.

With Nemanja Vidic having penned a deal with Inter Milan, in January, in the footballing equivalent of a man jumping head-first into the back of a getaway-car, flicking the v’s at Moyes as he did so, before it screeched away in a cloud of dust, Rio Ferdinand having being sent packing and Ryan Giggs having retired, the squad now looks painfully young, lightweight and shorn of natural leaders.

Which is where Vidal, who excelled at the heart of the wonderful Chilean side that lit up the World Cup, comes in.

Vidal would not come cheap, with a fee of £40m and a weekly wage as high as £250,000 being widely quoted. Nevertheless, if that is what it takes to prise the twenty-seven year-old to a club that will not be competing in the Champions League for at least a year, then United should surely pay it.

After all, Vidal is exactly the type of player the club have been missing since Roy Keane departed in a blaze of acrimony, all those years ago. He would add bite, strength, tenacity and the ability to grab games by the scruff of the neck and inspire those around him. Not only does he break up play but he is an accomplished passer of the ball and even weighs in with the odd goal, which have been in short supply from that area of the pitch for too long.

Vidal is entering his peak years and would buck the overall trend at United of buying youthful potential. However, we all saw what an effect bringing a ready-made, experienced player to the club had when Robin van Persie came from Arsenal. At times, it is exactly what a team needs.

It has been easy to get carried away over the last couple of weeks sitting, glued to this wonderful World Cup, behaving like children in a toy-shop, pointing at the television every two minutes and declaring “I want him! I want him! I want him!” Out of them all, though, Arturo Vidal may just be the one United most need.

Arturo Vidal to Manchester United is OFF as Louis van Gaal will not pursue interest in Juventus midfielder

* Manchester United will NOT pursue interest in Arturo Vidal
* Juventus are ready to sell Chile international and hoped for £32m deal
* Louis van Gaal has decided the midfielder is not for the Old Trafford club
* Vidal told Chilean press he would sort future after his holidays
* United will consider other options, contrary to Italian newspaper report

Manchester United will NOT pursue interest in Arturo Vidal.

Juventus are ready to sell the Chile international and had hoped to agree a deal worth £32million with the Old Trafford club.

The 27-year-old is well regarded and came back from injury to impress in the World Cup, however, United have decided he is not for them.

Arturo Vidal's move from Juventus to Manchester United has been taken off the table

Vidal's agent Fernando Felicevich was in London concluding business with Arsenal for his other client Alexis Sanchez and was understood to be due to hold talks with United over a proposed transfer.

Vidal is currently on holiday after competing at the World Cup in Brazil for his country, and when quizzed by Chilean newspaper La Tercera over whether he would be joining United, he said: 'I've heard about the rumours, but I haven't spoken more about this subject.

'I'm enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I'll see what happens. Anyone would like to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.'

Italian newspaper reports on Monday even claimed a deal had been agreed between the two clubs but that will not be the case as United consider other options.

United's valuation of the player is understood to be several million less than that of the Italian side and the Old Trafford club will not pay over the odds for the 27-year-old Chilean, despite new manager Van Gaal identifying Vidal as one of his leading targets to strengthen his midfield.

Arturo Vidal will NOT be allowed to join Manchester United this summer, says Juventus chief executive

* Arturo Vidal is not for sale at any price, says Juventus chief executive
* The Italian side's chief executive admits there has been interest in Vidal
* Louis van Gaal wants to sign at least three more players this summer
* Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen remains a prime target for Man United

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal is not for sale this summer, the club's chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has insisted.

Marotta was speaking on Tuesday afternoon as Juventus unveiled new manager Massimiliano Allegri following the departure of Antonio Conte.

There has been extensive speculation in recent weeks linking Manchester United with a move for Vidal and it is understood that the player is open to a transfer to Old Trafford.

United, for their part, deny that any move is imminent and insist that there has been no contact over a move for Vidal although Louis van Gaal is known to be a keen admirer of the 27-year-old's talents, having previously tried to sign him for Bayern Munich several years ago.

Defensive signing: Van Gaal is keen on bringing Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen to Old Trafford

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Marotta said: 'Arturo Vidal is not for sale. He's one of the most important players in the squad. Important teams asked for him but he is not for sale. He is happy to be here.'

'Important clubs have asked after him, but we have never sat down to talk. The player decides and yesterday Vidal showed that he is happy to continue with us.'

Van Gaal is keen to sign at least three more players in this transfer window, with Thomas Vermaelen of Arsenal a prime target to strengthen the defensive positions while Ricardo Rodriguez of Wolfsburg could be signed if United lose Patrice Evra to Juventus.

The United manager would also like to recruit one more central midfielder and a winger ahead of the start of the Premier League season.
