MANCHESTER UNITED PLAYER RATINGS: Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho shone again and Zidane Iqbal was absolutely fearless... but Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly all give Erik ten Hag cause for concern in flat-footed defence

* Manchester United beat Melbourne Victory 4-1 in their second pre-season game
* They came from behind after sluggish defence conceded after five minutes
* Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof didn't cover themselves in glory for the goal
* Eric Bailly made some sloppy errors after break but then supplied an assist
Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford looked sharp in attack
* Youngsters Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage made a positive impression

Manchester United continued their winning start to pre-season with a 4-1 win over A-League side Melbourne Victory in the first of three matches in Australia.

After falling behind inside five minutes, they fought back and won comfortably thanks to strikes by Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and an own goal.

Sportsmail assesses each of the United players involved in our player ratings.

Manchester United celebrate Marcus Rashford's third goal during a 4-1 victory in Melbourne

Tom Heaton 6

Not called into action too frequently having been left exposed for Victory's early opener. Dealt efficiently with incoming crosses and the few set-pieces the hosts were able to win.

Diogo Dalot 7

Worked well in tandem with Jadon Sancho to create a threat down the United right during the opening half and reached the byline on numerous occasions to get decent crosses or cut-backs into the area.

Harry Maguire 5

United's captain appeared for the first time under Ten Hag and within minutes had prompted painful flashbacks to last season's struggles when caught flat-footed for Melbourne's opening goal.

It merely underlined the need for United to sign a more nimble centre-back to play alongside him. Was solid enough thereafter and looped a header just over the bar in the other penalty box.

Harry Maguire was caught off-guard by Melbourne Victory's opening goal after five minutes

Victor Lindelof 5

His lack of mobility was brutally exposed when Ben Folami raced away from him to set up the opening goal after Lindelof for some reason found himself on the left touchline. Serious doubts remain and Ten Hag will be anxious to get a deal for Lisandro Martinez over the line soon.

Luke Shaw 6

Most of United's first-half attacking intent flowed down the opposite flank but Shaw did little wrong after being caught upfield for the Victory goal. Delivered some of the more accurate corners and crosses.

Scott McTominay 7

A typically tenacious display from a player eagerly trying to prove his worth in defensive midfield to Ten Hag as United chase Frenkie de Jong. His goal owed everything to the deflection off a defender's boot that deceived the keeper but the good fortune was merited by his work ethic.

Scott McTominay was the man to haul United back onto level terms with a deflected effort

Fred 6

Unable to replicate his delightful chip in the Liverpool game but wasn't for the want of trying. Two long-range efforts went high and wide, with several team-mates barracking him for choosing to shoot with the first of them. Needs to learn that a pass is often the better option rather than the speculative hit.

Anthony Elanga 6.5

A lively enough display for the youngster but not the brightest member of the forward line. He floated in a nice cross that Martial should have done better with, played a small hand in Martial's goal and showed some nice touches without troubling too much with his pace.

Bruno Fernandes 6.5

Saw a good chance saved during the first period after Jadon Sancho slipped him through inside the box. We witnessed a few of his trademark 'low percentage' passes that came off and he linked the play neatly as normal but hardly a vintage display.

Bruno Fernandes drives United forward during a first half in which they came from behind

Jadon Sancho 7.5

Bristling with intent as he aims to hit the ground running ahead of his second season at Old Trafford. Made good progress and forced the defenders back every time he picked up the ball.

Slipped in Fernandes with a superb through ball and combined well with Dalot and others. Enjoyed coming inside to drive at the heart of the Victory back line, perhaps something Ten Hag has encouraged.

Anthony Martial 8

Another good outing for a player who is doing his best to impress the new manager and show he deserves to stay at Old Trafford. After netting against Liverpool, he was on target again here with an assured close range finish that he couldn't really miss.

More impressive was his constant willingness to drop deep to link up the play and, against all odds, he may have a United future after all.

Anthony Martial continued his encouraging start to pre-season by scoring from close range

Tyrell Malacia 6.5

The newcomer is still settling in at United but he was able to indulge his abilities pushing forward against an opponent who sat deep and compact. The highlight was an inch-perfect cross that found Rashford's head but he couldn't generate enough power.

Alex Telles 6

Once again slotted in at centre-half in the absence of Raphael Varane and didn't do anything wrong under the light pressure Victory were able to exert. Will hope to return to his regular left-back position before the end of pre-season.

Eric Bailly 5

Looked a liability at the back as he twice surrendered possession in dangerous positions with loose touches or slack passing. It merely confirmed the look of a man who knows he's on his way out of Old Trafford sooner rather than later.

But Bailly atoned by playing the defence-splitting pass to release Rashford to score the third.

Ethan Laird 6.5

Basically assumed a wing-back role with Victory camped in their own penalty box more and more as their legs tired after he break. More than willing to bomb forward down the right in support of the attack and linked up very nicely with the other young guns in the team. His development will be interesting to watch in the season ahead.

Zidane Iqbal 7

Absolutely fearless display from the 19-year-old Iraq international, who looks a promising talent. The highlight was a midfield pirouette away from two defenders his namesake would have been proud of during his Juventus and Real Madrid days. Fans were raving over Iqbal on social media afterwards and rightly so.

Zidane Iqbal impressed for United after coming on for the second half at the MCG

Charlie Savage 7

Showed his natural composure with an ice-cool clearance under pressure right in front of his own goal and he mopped up Bailly's mistakes on a couple of occasions. Showed his abilities playing forward with a lofted ball to Rashford, who has strayed offside. Another academy player we'd like to see more of.

Donny van de Beek 6.5

Looked good in patches and wasn't afraid to push on into the box to get within sight of goal after Ten Hag spoke in the lead-up about Van de Beek being best as a No 10. Didn't show enough to suggest he'll be displacing Fernandes there anytime soon but things can surely only get better now he has been reunited with his former Ajax mentor.

Tahith Chong 7

A solid enough performance from another academy graduate who has been out on loan for most of his United career. His dangerous cross led to the own goal that sealed the win. Liked to bustle forward with the ball and will surely feature again in pre-season as Ten Hag decides what to do with him.

Marcus Rashford 7

Another step in the right direction for Rashford, whose decision to put in the hard yards and hit the gym when on holiday last month appears to be paying off with a restored sharpness.

His finish for the third goal was unerring after showing a burst of pace to break through. Might have added a second with other openings. A bit too premature to proclaim that Rashford is back but he'll feel a lot better.

Marcus Rashford capped a strong second half display with a neat finish for United's third goal

Amad Diallo 6

A couple of sharp forward bursts but not as eye-catching as others in the attack. The 20-year-old still has plenty of time on his side and Ten Hag may decide that another loan spell will be best. His pre-season audition isn't over yet, however.

MANAGER

Erik ten Hag 7

This was a very different test to the Liverpool game as United were confronted by opposition content to sit back, even more so after they scored after five minutes.

United will be challenged the break down many such defences in the season ahead so there was some early encouragement that they managed to do so here.

There are early signs that United will become a team eager to dominate possession and press the opposition hard, rather than hit on the counter.

The way every member of the side dropped back when possession was lost was also a promising sign as the Dutchman tries to make his imprint.

Default Re: Manchester United Tour 2022

Default Re: Manchester United Tour 2022

MANCHESTER UNITED PLAYER RATINGS: Anthony Martial produced another electric display to boost his chances of starting under Erik ten Hag while Harry Maguire took no notice of the boo boys in win over Palace

* Man United made it three wins from three in pre-season with 3-1 win over Palace
* Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were on the scoresheet
* Those trio shone for United as they clicked in attack from the first whistle
* Harry Maguire was booed by the crowd but ignored the hostility
* Young defender Will Fish was unfortunate to be shown a pre-season red card

Manchester United's excellent start to life under Erik ten Hag continued as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at the MCG in their third pre-season tour match.

Their attack clicked once again with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all on the scoresheet after combining slickly throughout.

We assess the performances of each of the United players as they made it three wins from three under their new manager.

David de Gea

Made a couple of significant saves to keep out Palace's fleeting attacking threat, including one from Malcolm Ebiowei in the first-half and a header from Ademola Ola-Adabomi after the break. Will be annoyed at Joel Ward getting a free header to beat him at the near post for Palace's goal. 7

Diogo Dalot

A performance that suggested he will be first choice at right-back once the season begins. More than willing to push forward and delivered the perfect cross for Martial to score the opening goal. Looks a much better crosser than Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who will struggle to win his place back on this evidence. 7

Harry Maguire

If he was disheartened by his every touch being jeered during the opening stages, Maguire didn't let it show. He kept his head focused on the task at hand and didn't put a foot wrong as United kept Palace largely at arm's length in the time he was on the pitch. 7

Harry Maguire was booed by a section of the crowd during the early stages of the game

Victor Lindelof

Not unduly troubled in his defensive duties though there was one moment when he was outpaced by a Palace forward before being able to recover. Assured enough with his passing at the back. 6.5

Tyrell Malacia

On the evidence of his performances so far, Malacia looks a shrewd addition and will strongly challenge Luke Shaw for the left-back position in the season ahead. Involved in the first goal with a cross-field pass to Dalot and demonstrated that he can deliver a good inswinging corner on his first United start. 7

Tyrell Malacia once again looked lively on his first start and was involved in United's opener

Scott McTominay

Didn't shirk away from a tackle during a first-half that had plenty of needle against familiar Premier League opponents. Was the one United player to be taken off at half-time having come close to picking up a booking on a couple of occasions. 6

Fred

Kept United flowing through midfield and was brimming with his usual tenacity. Got involved in a shoving match with Jordan Ayew as tempers flared during the second-half. Produced a lovely through pass to set Martial free in the early stages but the Frenchman couldn't finish. 6.5

Jadon Sancho

A performance full of verve and threat that was rewarded with a goal in the second-half. Sancho took every opportunity to run at the Palace defenders and linked well with his fellow forwards. His finish was smart for the goal having given the keeper the eyes and he did well to remain onside. 7

Bruno Fernandes

Helped the forward line rotate the ball well without producing the killer passes for which he is renowned. A decent enough showing but far from his peak. 6

Marcus Rashford

No question that Rashford's confidence is slowly returning after the lows of last season. His first thought whenever he received the ball was to get his head up and get his legs moving to challenge the Palace defence. Rounded off a delightful team move for the second of United's goals. 7.5

Anthony Martial

Another man of the match performance from a revitalised striker who can't stop scoring. His early strike made it three from three during pre-season so far and what a contrast to the sorry figure that was loaned out to Sevilla back in January. There was no way he was missing his chance for the goal plus he had other openings and linked up well with Rashford in particular. 8

The confidence is flowing for Anthony Martial as he notched his third goal of pre-season

SUBSTITUTES

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Must show more if he is to keep his position at right-back under Ten Hag. Admittedly he came on during a disjointed period of the game with the match already won but just didn't get forward enough. 5

Will Fish

It's easy to feel plenty of sympathy for the young defender despite his red card for dragging down Victor Akinwale as the last man. How many red cards do you see in pre-season? Ten Hag gave him a pat on the head as he walked off despondent, which suggested it won't be held against him. 4

Alex Telles

Again introduced at centre-half which appears to be his fate now United have an abundance of left-backs. Mopped up any danger in the final stages as Palace looked to further reduce the arrears up against 10 men. 6

Donny van de Beek

Came on for McTominay at half-time and looked lively, playing a hand in the second goal as he rampaged into the Palace box. Ten Hag believes he is best as an attacking midfielder so we need to see a lot more of that. 6.5

Charlie Savage

Another assured outing for the teenager after he performed well in the win over Melbourne Victory on Friday. Some good touches, including one purposeful run into the Palace box. 6.5

Amad Diallo

Aimed to pick up the baton from the United attackers taken off midway through the second half and continue the pressure on the Palace defenders. Was cynically brought down on several occasions as a result. 6

Zidane Iqbal

Not as eye-catching as his cameo against Melbourne but one or two nice touches to keep United's fans interested in his progress. 6

Hannibal Mejbri

Showed some good intent with a few powerful forward runs after being introduced for Rashford without being able to carve a great deal out. 6

Anthony Elanga

Managed to break clear of the Palace defence just the once in a low key cameo after coming on for Martial. Will face plenty of stiff competition this season but should get more chances to impress. 6

MANAGER

Erik ten Hag

The momentum builds and this was another performance to show that United's attack is beginning to click even in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ten Hag will be encouraged by the way Martial, Rashford and Sancho are linking up though no doubt he will see plenty of scope for improvement in other areas of the park. In terms of a confidence boost, to see those three attackers on the scoresheet couldn't have been a better outcome.

A tougher test will await in the form of Aston Villa on Saturday but pre-season really couldn't be going much better on the field. 7.5

PLAYER RATINGS: Donny van de Beek fails to impress after being handed his first start on Manchester United's pre-season tour... but Leon Bailey showed what he's capable of with a fine goal

* Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday
* Jadon Sancho volleyed home his third goal of the tour to put United ahead
* Marcus Rashford's first half strike was then deflected in by Villa's Matt Cash
* Leon Bailey pulled one back with a solo goal after his half-time introduction
* Calum Chambers then scored a 93rd minute header to level the scoreline
* Sportsmail have analysed how each player performed during the friendly

Manchester United were pegged back by a last-gasp Calum Chambers header as Aston Villa fought back to deny Erik ten Hag a winning end to their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

Jadon Sancho volleyed home his third goal of the tour at the end of a fine team move to open the scoring in a first half that ended with Marcus Rashford's strike deflecting in off Matty Cash.

However, Leon Bailey pulled one back with a superb solo goal shortly after his half-time introduction and Chambers' headed home his corner with the last touch of the night as David De Gea was caught in no-man's land.

Sportsmail have rounded how each player performed during the pre-season friendly in Perth on Saturday afternoon.

MANCHESTER UNITED

David De Gea

The Manchester United goalkeeper had little to do in the first but could be relied upon when needed. He was then beaten by Bailey and should have done better on the equaliser. 5

Diogo Dalot

Another solid performance from the Portuguese defender. He started the attacked that resulted in Jadon Sancho's opening goal. 7

Harry Maguire

The Manchester United captain was subject to some booing again but he seemed to be undeterred and even created several chances for United. He also made a crucial intercept to deny Aston Villa. 7

Harry Maguire was subject to some booing again but he seemed to be undeterred and even created several chances for United

Victor Lindelof

Promising performance in the first half but then fell to pieces in the second. He allowed Bailey to pass him and get a shot off for the first Villa goal. 6

Luke Shaw

The England defender made his mark on the game - constantly threatening down the let-hand-side before providing a wonderful assist. However, he was positioned too high when Bailey broke for Villa's first. 6

Fred

Another good performance from Fred. It was his pass that lead to Matty Cash's own goal. Although, he must be careful defending in the box after almost giving a penalty away in the opening 3 minutes. 7

Donny Van de Beek

Donny van de Beek was eager to prove his worth as Ten Hag handed him his first start of the pre-season tour but he was hardly involved in the game at all. Erik ten Hag was even heard shouting at the former Ajax player from the sideline. 5

Donny van de Beek was eager to prove his worth as Ten Hag handed him his first start of the pre-season tour but he was hardly involved in the game at all

Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese midfielder played an important role in United's first goal and looked threatening whenever he picked the ball up on the left in the first half. However, it wasn't his strongest performance of the tour. 6

Jadon Sancho

Another excellent performance from the England international. He scored the opening goal with a volley at the back post and continued to threaten. 8

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has rediscovered his best form under Ten Hag and played a role in both of United's first-half goals. 7

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman has been working extremely well with the Manchester United forwards but couldn't get on the scoresheet this time around. 7

Marcus Rashford has rediscovered his best form under Ten Hag and played a role in both of United's first-half goals

SUBSTITUES

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Made life difficult for De Gea. 5

Eric Bailly

Came on and got awarded a yellow card. Also lost the aerial battle with Calum Chambers. 5

Raphael Varane

Fitness appears to be an issue. He was easy outrun by Bailey. 5

Tyrell Malacia

Didn't have enough time to make a real impact on the game. 6

James Garner

Made his first appearance on tour but there was little to report on. 6

James Garner made his first appearance on tour but there was little to report on

Alex Telles

Played in midfield and didn't look too much like a deer in the headlights. 5

Zidane Iqbal

Iqbal complete some threatening counter attacks but needed more time. 6

Hannibal Mejbri

Worked hard and made his self available to his team-mates. 6

Anthony Elanga

Was good in transition. Something United were lacking in the second half. 5

Tahith Chong

Constantly active - always looking to be available for find his next pass. 6

Semakin mendekati akhir nih tur pra musimnya.
