'Casemiro the difference to this team… the balance he has given us is huge': Rio Ferdinand leads Brazilian's plaudits after shining during Man United's win over Spurs - as fans label £70m summer signing as 'the best defensive midfielder in the world'

* Casemiro starred in midfield as Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0
* The Brazilian made four tackles, won his only aerial duel and made one dribble
* Supporters argue that Frenkie de Jong would not have had the same impact

Rio Ferdinand was quick to heap praise on Manchester United's Casemiro after his stellar performance against Tottenham on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils legend hailed the 'balance' that the Brazilian has brought to a notoriously lacklustre United midfield since his high-profile switch from European Champions Real Madrid this summer.

United saw off Antonio Conte's Spurs in a 2-0 win at Old Trafford, courtesy of goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes, but the work of Casemiro in the middle of the park once more draw plaudits.

And the former United and England centre-back led those plaudits, taking to Twitter to write: 'Casemiro the difference to this team… The balance he has given us is huge.'

Rio Ferdinand believes that Casemiro has brought 'balance' to Manchester United's midfield. Fans believe Casemiro is the best in the world in his position

A second fan echoed the sentiments, adding: 'Cannot remember the last United midfielder who was as good defensively as Casemiro. He's everywhere.'

But a third Twitter user went one further, claiming: 'I can't remember the last time we had a player in midfield that brings control, leadership and the freedom to our other midfielders to get forward.

'Casemiro starting to show us why he's the best defensive midfielder in the world!'

The Premier League giants spent much of their summer in a wasted pursuit of Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong to shore up their leaky midfield.

Ferdinand was quick to highlight the difference that the Brazilian has made to United this term. The 30-year-old made four tackles as he held down the middle of the park for Erik ten Hag

However, although a fee was reportedly agreed with the Blaugrana, the player was unwilling to make the switch.

It is unknown whether the acquisition of Casemiro was merely a reaction to that failed pursuit or a different direction entirely, but the five-time Champions League winner has already started ingratiating himself with the United support.

He may have only started seven of his 11 games, but fans are confident that the 30-year-old is now fully settled at his new club and ready to show his mercurial best.

One fan said: 'Casemiro has been literally everywhere. He is showing his class each game. All he needed was time.'

Another added: 'Casemiro is a proper DM. We needed him more than De Jong'

And a third United supporter was clearly enamoured with the Brazilian's display at Old Trafford, and said: 'I LOVE CASEMIRO TO BITS! WHAT A GUY MAN!'

Martin Keown hails £70m man Casemiro as 'absolute class' and claims he is what Manchester United 'have been missing for YEARS' after the Brazilian's impressive display against Chelsea

* Martin Keown praised Casemiro after his impressive display against Chelsea
* Casemiro scored a dramatic late equaliser and performed well overall
* Keown says Casemiro is 'absolute class' and United needed a player like him

Martin Keown was full of praise for Casemiro after the Manchester United midfielder's impressive performance against Chelsea.

Casemiro salvaged a point for United with an excellent late header, while his overall performance was of a very high standard.

Keown described Casemiro as 'absolute class' and added that he feels United have been missing a player of his ilk for some time.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Keown said: 'Absolute class. I think he's a player they've been missing for years. Conducts everything in that midfield. The real defensive brain of the team, and he can pass as well.

Martin Keown praised Casemiro following the midfielder's impressive display against Chelsea. Keown described Casemiro as 'absolute class' and a player United have been missing for years

'He's never ruffled. He sniffs out danger. He senses things really well, he anticipates. If you give it to him in a tricky situation he can find a pass. You see people doing that in front of you, it's brilliant. His positioning is first class.

'He's always in the right place for his team. When they need him most he comes to the fore, takes responsibility, That is a wonderful header, his first goal for United. Look what it means to him.'

United manager Erik ten Hag is pleased with the way that Casemiro has adapted at United. Casemiro's impressive header in the closing stages salvaged a point for United at Chelsea

Casemiro had to wait to establish himself in the United team after joining the club but he has now started the last six games in succession.

Ten Hag is pleased with the way in which the Brazil international has adapted to the demands of the Premier League.

Ten Hag said: 'That is why we brought him in. We know he is capable to do that, he proved it in Spain, he proved it in the Champions League, so the highest level.

'So he could also do it in the Premier League. But it's clear the Premier League is a different league, especially with the intensity, so he needed a short period to adapt to that.

'And now from game to game you see him growing, and how important it is for our game. He brings the composure, he brings the organisation and he even scores a goal and then you bring a lot to the team.'

After a late penalty from Jorginho it looked like United were going to suffer defeat against Chelsea.

However, Casemiro intervened with a fantastic looping header to ensure that ten Hag's side got a point at Stamford Bridge.

United are in fifth place in the Premier League having taken 20 points from eleven games so far.

Default Re: Carlos Henrique Casimiro (Casemiro)

Classy Casemiro is the linchpin Man United have been missing for YEARS... the £70m Brazilian was a step ahead against Chelsea and moves Ten Hag's team beyond the unconvincing 'McFred' midfield

* Casemiro was outstanding as Manchester United earned a draw at Chelsea
* Brazilian midfielder capped a fine personal display with a late equalising goal
* Erik ten Hag eased the £70m arrival from Real Madrid into English football
* Now fully up to speed, it's obvious that Casemiro can haul United forwards
* His arrival puts an end to the partnership of Fred and Scott McTominay there

With just enough elevation on his leap and inch-perfect direction on his looping header, Casemiro earned Manchester United a precious point at the death.

It was far from the first time the Brazilian had been in the right place at the right time at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.

The midfielder seemed to be one step ahead of Chelsea throughout, his anticipation of the next phase of play unerring and his assuredness when he had the ball radiating calm to his United team-mates.

Erik ten Hag eased his £70million summer arrival into English football but it's already obvious just how much influence he has on this United side and that will only grow going forward.

An excellent segment by Martin Keown on Match of the Day highlighted this, showing the breadth of qualities Casemiro offers Ten Hag's team.

Casemiro's passion was there for all to see after he scored United's late equaliser at Chelsea. The Brazilian midfielder's towering leap and looping header earned United a deserved point. Erik ten Hag allowed Casemiro to settle into English football but his influence is now clear

The montage began with a quarterback-style diagonal pass that found Jadon Sancho on the left wing, then an interception in midfield, followed by a classy curved ball out to Antony despite being hemmed in by blue shirts and facing his own goal.

There was a 10-yard forward burst that gambled on Ruben Loftus-Cheek losing control of the ball and led to Marcus Rashford being slipped clear for a chance he should have taken.

Two perfectly-timed tackles were then shown, one halting Raheem Sterling in his tracks on the edge of the United box.

The goal, a crucial one even at this stage of the season, capped a man of the match display and was followed by a pumped-up celebration in front of the United fans in the Shed End.

'Absolute class. I think he's a player they've been missing for years,' concluded Keown and it's hard to argue.

Even the regular midfield pairing of Fred and Scott McTominay - abbreviated to 'McFred' - already looks old hat compared to the dynamism and balance Casemiro can bring to United.

Both those players will have a role to play going forward, of course, but it's clear now that Casemiro will be the linchpin of Ten Hag's team.

Casemiro takes on Mateo Kovacic during a fascinating midfield battle at Stamford Bridge. The £70million Brazilian posted impressive stats in all aspects of his game against Chelsea

The five-time Champions League winner offers them a composure that has been missing for some time.

Allied with Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes playing ahead of him, United should be able to feed play from back-to-front through central midfield again rather than relying on wide players.

Quote:
Casemiro vs Chelsea

One goal

72 touches

10 ball recoveries

3 clearances

4 tackles won

6/8 ground duels won

3 aerial duels won

83 per cent pass accuracy

6/8 long balls completed
It's far too early to be drawing comparisons with the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick but Casemiro is clearly an upgrade on anything they've had in the past five years.

'That is why we brought him in,' said Ten Hag after Saturday's draw. 'We know he is capable to do that, he proved it in Spain, he proved it in the Champions League, so the highest level.

'So he could so it in the Premier League. But it's clear the Premier League is a different league, especially with the intensity, so he needed a short period to adapt to that.

'And now, from game to game, you see him growing, and how important it is for our game.'

It is testament to Casemiro's ambition that he wanted to sign for a club who have well and truly lost their way of late.

Leaving a team that had just won LaLiga and the Champions League must have been difficult but, at 30, Casemiro knows that Real wait for no man, however successful. Besides, the Spanish club needed the money.

He also came in just after United had lost 4-0 to Brentford in their second game of the season but since then - with the obvious exception of that 6-3 defeat at Man City, which Casemiro didn't start - there has been gradual but clear improvement.

The midweek win over Tottenham showed the potential of the United team Ten Hag is assembling and, given their first-half chances, they really should have taken more from Chelsea.

But United are top four contenders again and Casemiro will influence whether he's back in the Champions League next season with his performances.

At Chelsea, he proved he can shield the back line effectively, with a bit of help from Eriksen, in a 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 shape to allow the wing-backs to push on.

In the win over Tottenham, he was partnered with Fred, his likely World Cup accomplice with Brazil, in a 4-2-3-1.

Casemiro could also play alongside the industrious McTominay, which would allow him to play more of those long passes.

And he can also sit alongside Eriksen, who has been the revelation of United's season to date having signed for them on a free.

His qualities allow Ten Hag flexibility, which is what any manager craves. He's also a born winner, too, as his sparkling CV proves and standards have slipped at United.

They are still far from the finished product but with Casemiro impressing in midfield, they've taken a sizeable step toward that aim.

'He's our guard dog': Antony heaps praise on £70m man Casemiro and claims Manchester United are prospering from his 'no-nonsense' and 'serious' approach in defensive midfield

* Casemiro is Manchester United's 'guard dog' in midfield according to Antony
* The ex-Real Madrid star has helped his side carve out a five match unbeaten run
* Antony insisted Casemiro is a 'serious', 'no-nonsense' type in defensive midfield
* Casemiro scored United's 94th minute equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea

Antony has heaped praise on Casemiro and described the defensive midfielder as Manchester United's 'guard dog'.

The former Real Madrid star, who like Antony joined Erik ten Hag's side in August, was brought into the team after the 6-3 mauling against Manchester City and has since started the last five matches for the Red Devils.

Since his introduction, Manchester United have gone on a five game unbeaten run and chalked up three clean sheets against Tottenham, Omonoia and Newcastle.

Casemiro also netted the crucial 94th minute equaliser during Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Antony insisted his Brazilian compatriot has both improved the Red Devils defensively and handed their attacking players more freedom to get forward.

Although Casemiro passionately screamed at the fans after scoring his last-gasp leveller against Chelsea, the winger hinted the celebration was out of character for the midfielder.

‘Casemiro is a more serious type,’ Antony said during an interview via the club website.

Antony (right) has described team-mate Casemiro (centre) as Manchester United's 'guard dog'. The Brazilian admitted his compatriot was a 'serious', 'no-nonsense' type in the dressing room

‘I always say he is our guard dog in the middle. He is a no-nonsense guy, a more serious type. I think he will leave these goal celebrations to us attacking players.’

Following Sheriff's trip to Old Trafford in midweek, sixth-placed Manchester United head to West Ham on Sunday with a game in hand over Spurs and Newcastle in third and fourth respectively.

A victory could see Ten Hag's side climb to within four points of league leaders Arsenal, should the Gunners slip up against Nottingham Forest as Liverpool did last weekend.

* He said Casemiro has brought authority and quality to the Man United squad

Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Casemiro for his performance against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, claiming the Brazilian has brought authority and quality to the Manchester United squad.

Redknapp said Casemiro played a starring role in United's 1-0 win over West Ham. He said the 30-year-old made everything look so 'simple' and claimed he knew the game inside-out.

Gary Neville and Erik ten Hag were equally as impressed with Casemiro's performance on Saturday afternoon. The Dutch manager said the Brazilian was 'brilliant' but he is expecting him to get 'better and better' with time.

Speaking after the game, Redknapp said: 'You have to be (impressed) I have looked at United's midfield for so long and never really seen any combinations or a midfield you would be scared to play against.

'What he has done is brought so much authority to this team, calm, quality, know-how, knowing when to press, knowing when to intercept, how many times have we seen him just doing that, picking people's pockets and then playing the right pass.

'You can see other teams looking at him like "wow that's Casemiro there" a little bit of spike but he knows where to be. They haven't had that in midfield. Gary (Neville) played with magnificent midfielders at this club.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was equally as impressed with Casemiro

'For a long time I have looked at United's midfield and thought it is so disjointed, there is no one that can do that job of getting hold of the ball and make the right pass.

'I thought he was excellent today. Everything he does he makes it look so simple. He played for Real Madrid for so long he knows the game inside-out.'

Meanwhile, Neville added: 'He is (improving players). None of Eriksen, Casemiro, Fernandes are quick or what you would call true defensive midfielders but you think of that midfield three he played in at Madrid with Kroos and Modric. Then look at him alongside Eriksen and Fernandes, Kroos and Modric are far better players but there are similarities to what we are seeing here in the style.

'Those three ruled Europe for many years, playing in the biggest games and controlled them but there is something similar to what Casemiro is seeing here to what he seen at Real Madrid.

'The silkiness and smoothness that gives United a better platform. The big games, City away they struggled a little bit but City come here two weeks after the restart and it will be really interesting to see if Ten Hag goes with that three. That will be the real test.

Redknapp agreed by saying: 'Just having him in front of that back four gives them so much confidence. I have seen situations where the midfielder runs into open areas, Casemiro breathes and plays the game in slow motion.'

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was equally as impressed with Casemiro's performance. Speaking after the game he said: 'For me he is brilliant. You can see why he wins five Champions League trophies and acting that long at the top of world football. We see that in every match and every training. He will only get better and better.'

Default Re: Carlos Henrique Casimiro (Casemiro)

Casemiro called Man United chief John Murtough hours after watching their humiliating loss at Brentford to say he still couldn't wait to join, with the £70m star already a key man for Erik ten Hag

* A poor start to the season saw Manchester United hammered 4-0 by Brentford
* Despite the result, Casemiro reassured John Murtough he was willing to join
* The Brazilian has shone in Man United's midfield since move from Real Madrid
* Erik ten Hag's side have conceded just once in their last seven games

Manchester United were convinced Casemiro would be the real deal at Old Trafford by an encouraging phone call he made after their 4-0 defeat at Brentford in August.

United were in advanced negotiations with the Real Madrid superstar when they were humiliated in Erik ten Hag’s first away game, followed closely on television by Casemiro who was still in Spain.

But any fears the five-time Champions League winner might want to pull out of the move were dispelled when the 30-year-old Brazilian rang director of football John Murtough to assure him he was excited about being part of the revamp that he'd seen with his own eyes the club badly needed.

It convinced United that paying £70million for the Brazilian a week later would be a shrewd move despite being stung in the past by giving big paydays to other ageing South Americans Alexis Sanchez and Edinson Cavani.

His attitude also contrasted sharply with Frenkie de Jong who always appeared lukewarm about moving to England despite Barcelona trying to offload him to raise funds.

So far, Casemiro has more than fulfilled his side of the bargain. After waiting patiently for his place in the team, he has been a huge reason for United’s improved results, protecting the defence as a holding midfielder.

They go to Aston Villa on Sunday conceding only one goal in their last seven matches – and that a penalty from Chelsea’s Jorginho.

United’s recruitment record has been poor in recent seasons forcing a change in policy to only bring in players who genuinely want to play for them.

Ajax pair Lisandro Martinez and Antony both had to work hard to persuade their Dutch club to allow them to move to England – thereby persuading United they would fit into the new culture ten Hag is building at Old Trafford.

It’ll certainly be a vastly different United to the one that new Villa manager Unai Emery faced as Villarreal boss in the 2021 Europa League Final.

Emery’s Spanish underdogs beat United on penalties that night but ten Hag may pick only three of the same starting line-up selected by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just over a year ago.

Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in a £70million deal this summer. A poor start to the season saw Manchester United hammered 4-0 by Brentford in August. Despite the heavy defeat, Casemiro gave chief John Murtough a call to reassure him. The Brazilian midfielder has shone in Man United's midfield since breaking into the team

From that United team, Paul Pogba and Cavani have left, Eric Bailly sent on loan to Marseille and Victor Lindelof and Aaron wan-Bissaka dropped down the pecking order. Mason Greenwood is facing court charges.

Three of the substitutes used by Solskjaer – Dan James, Juan Mata and Alex Telles – aren’t at the club either. Instead, they have recruited Cristiano Ronaldo, Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro for a combined price tag of £300million.

Bruno Fernandes is suspended for Villa Park after collecting five bookings.

Manchester United fans heap praise on Casemiro after his 'monsterclass' in their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, as they laud Brazil star for being the 'best defensive midfielder in the world'

* Casemiro was named man of the match as Man United beat Nottingham Forest
* Fans have been praising the Brazil star for his 'monsterclass' on the night
* He had a hand in two goals, including a brilliant tackle to start a counter attack
* Many supporters labelled him 'the best defensive midfielder in the world'

Fans have been lauding Manchester United midfielder Casemiro after his 'monsterclass' performance against Nottingham Forest.

The Brazil star was named man of the match after a commanding display in United's 3-0 win, which included a brilliant tackle that set up the counter attack for Anthony Martial's goal.

Fans were quick to praise the midfielder, with several labelling him 'easily the best CDM in the world', and admitting they 'couldn't believe he plays for Manchester United.'

'Won the ball that led to Martial's goal, and again won the ball that led to Fred's goal while providing the assist himself,' added another supporter. 'United are so lucky to have this guy. I'm speechless.'

Casemiro was named man of the match as Man United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0. He had a hand in two goals, including a brilliant tackle to start a counter attack for the second. United have now moved within a point of the top four but have some tough games ahead

His performance was also labelled 'ludicrously good' and 'a monsterclass', as questions were raised about the criticism his signing received in August.

After a summer of links with Frenkie de Jong, there were some who felt Casemiro was a worse option given his age, but the 30-year-old has wasted no time in winning the Old Trafford faithful round.

One fan called him 'the most commanding presence I've seen at Old Trafford since Roy Keane', as another felt he could 'do no wrong.'

Many supporters labelled Casemiro 'the best defensive midfielder in the world' after the game

There was also talk of how happy Casemiro seems to be while he plays, with tweets reading 'not only is Casemiro making a mockery of the Premier League, but he is so clearly loving it too. Celebrates every goal like it’s his sixth Champions League.' Others commented on how 'easy' he makes it look.

United's win leaves them one point off the top four, with a game in hand over Tottenham who currently occupy the last Champions League spot.

They will be hoping for six points from their next two games against Wolves and Bournemouth ahead of a tricky run that sees them play Manchester City and Arsenal in consecutive weeks.

Default Re: Carlos Henrique Casimiro (Casemiro)

'He's a HUGE player': Roy Keane hails Casemiro's impact on Manchester United with the £70m Brazilian midfielder enjoying an excellent start to life at Old Trafford

* Manchester United won 3-0 at Nottingham Forest in Carabao Cup semi-final
* Roy Keane praised United's Brazilian midfielder Casemiro for his influence
* He said the Brazilian was missed when suspended for 3-2 defeat by Arsenal

Roy Keane has hailed the impact Casemiro has made at Manchester United, describing the Brazilian midfielder as 'a huge player who affects games'.

Casemiro joined from Real Madrid in a £70million deal last summer and has wasted little time impressing in English football as Erik ten Hag rebuilds United into a force.

United looked weaker in his absence when they lost 3-2 to table-toppers Arsenal on Sunday after Casemiro picked up a one-game suspension.

But he returned to help Ten Hag's side make a giant leap towards a Wembley final with a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final, first leg on Wednesday night.

And former United captain Keane, speaking ahead of that game, praised Casemiro's qualities.

'He's a huge player for them. We obviously saw at the weekend when he wasn't playing [how he was missed],' Keane told Sky Sports.

'He's a big personality, has won the big trophies before. He affects games, is obviously very good defensively and pretty good on the ball, let me tell you.

Casemiro has made an outstanding impact since arriving at Manchester United in August. The Brazilian midfielder helped United to a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night. Former United midfielder Roy Keane hailed Casemiro's impact, saying he's a big game player

'Big strong boy, big personality - he makes the players around him better, that's what great players do.

'We've seen him so far, you're thinking when he came to the club, big signing, big expectations.

'But he does the simple things well, can see a pass, his awareness - it's not just about winning the ball back, it's about the next bit, it's that bit of quality, that pass, the pace of it.

'That's what the really good players do.'

Keane added that Casemiro's reputation had been enhanced by his absence in the defeat at the Emirates Stadium, after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Scott McTominay was drafted in by Ten Hag to partner Christian Eriksen in the United midfield.

Keane added: 'Sometimes you realise how good a player he is when he's not in the team.

'That's what great players do, they affect games, they make things happen. They move it and I think when he came to United there was a lot of talk that he was very defensively-minded - which he is, he's very good at that - but he's very good at going forward.

'He's very good at making passes and he's got a few goals which is a huge bonus.'

Casemiro has scored twice and contributed five assists since he swapped the Bernabeu for Old Trafford in August.

United moved to the cusp of the Carabao Cup final thanks to an outstanding solo goal by Marcus Rashford and further strikes by Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes.

The second leg will be played at Old Trafford on Tuesday next week, with United hosting Reading in the FA Cup fourth round this Saturday evening.

This is the way to win titles, but we need to keep growing': Man United are on a 'good path', believes Casemiro - but Brazilian insists 'we are still a club under construction' - as Red Devils look to end six-year trophy drought

* Manchester United beat Reading 3-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday night
* Casemiro bagged a brace in the game as they advanced to the fifth round
* The midfielder insisted the Red Devils are on a 'good path' under Erik ten Hag

Casemiro has been at Manchester United long enough now to feel the weight of history at Old Trafford, and he believes the club is on the way back under Erik ten Hag.

The Brazil star has been a revelation since moving from Real Madrid in a £70million deal last summer. His two goals against Reading on Saturday night put United on course for the fifth round of the FA Cup, and they are set to secure a place in the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday after opening up a three-goal first-leg lead over Nottingham Forest.

A serial winner in Spain, Casemiro believes the signs are there that United are heading in the right direction with Ten Hag’s side still challenging in four competitions.

‘When you arrive at a new club, you always dream of making history, especially if we see the greatness of this club,’ he said.

‘We know the history. But, of course, I was aware of needing some time to adapt and of the rivals like Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool having a long-term plan before ours. They all have managers that have been there for a while and, therefore, they have an advantage.

‘We have to see what the reality is, and we are still club under construction. Of course, we are already respected: the opponents know we're strong, that we have good dynamics, the manager is doing a good job, the players as well.

‘Manchester United is a big club. In my opinion, if we look at the titles, it's the biggest in England.

Manchester United's Casemiro has been a revelation since joining the club last year. He said the club was on a 'good path' after bagging a brace in their 3-1 win over Reading. His goals put United into the fifth round of the FA Cup, as they continue to challenge in four competitions. The 30-year-old midfielder also spoke of how he 'feels at home' in Erik ten Hag's side

‘The job is on with a lot of humility by knowing there's a lot to improve, but all the players need to be congratulated now. We're on a good path. This is the way to win titles, but we need to keep growing.

‘We know we're progressing within a plan, step by step we're building a well-structured team and this is important. To win titles in the future, you have to build a solid foundation.’

Ten Hag routinely refers to Casemiro as ‘the cement between the stones’ but there is so much more finesse to him than the manager’s compliment suggests. Two excellent goals with his right foot took the game away from Reading as United eased to victory.

‘The last time I scored twice in the same match was against Sevilla at the Bernabeu and we won 2-1 (in January 2020),’ he added.

‘I'm happy about tonight especially for helping the team. My main job is to give more balance to the defence, help my teammates and give more quality to the build-up, but to score is also important and satisfying.’

Amid the celebrations for the opening goal, Casemiro was quick to point to his Brazil teammate Antony who made the assist having faced criticism in recent weeks.

‘Every goal that we score is a result of a collective effort,’ he added. ‘On my first goal, Antony's pass was incredible. I know that people focus on who scored, but I wanted to give him a bit of love as the pass was magic. He's an important player for us.’

Another Brazilian, Fred, scored United’s third goal in the space of 12 minutes, and afterwards Casemiro spoke about how much he is enjoying life at Old Trafford.

‘Everyone here has been lovely with me, and since the first day I feel at home here. I appreciate all the effort that the club has done to bring me here.

‘In our lives we have to have goals and challenges. It was a challenge for me to keep growing and developing in my career.

‘I'm happy with my adaptation here. My teammates and the staff are really helping me. Also with the English language, it's been quite hard but I'm really trying to get better.

‘I'm very comfortable at Manchester United, extremely happy to be here and enjoying every moment like a 15-year-old kid. But the most important is to see the team growing.’
