Manchester United hold talks with Aston Villa over deal for Jack Grealish as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also monitors developments with Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek

* Manchester United have held talks with Aston Villa over £80m star Jack Grealish
* Grealish remains a prime target for United after a move for Jadon Sancho stalled
* The club are also keeping a close eye on Donny van de Beek's situation at Ajax
* The 24-year-old midfielder was left out of the squad for the friendly on Saturday

Manchester United have held talks with Aston Villa as they strive to reach an agreement on a deal for Jack Grealish and are monitoring developments with Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Grealish remains a prime target for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has seen a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho stall. However, Villa will demand £80million for the 24-year-old midfielder.

Van de Beek was left out of Ajax's squad for their friendly with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. He is understood to have asked to be left out of the game following enquiries made about his availability.

United have yet to make a formal offer and Ajax would like the player’s future resolved before their first game of the Dutch league season on September 13 against Sparta Rotterdam.

The Red Devils are confirmed admirers and Ajax coach Erik ten Haag admitted: 'There are indeed developments that prevent him from being in the selection. We are looking at how that will end.'

United, though, maintain they are merely monitoring the 23-year-old's situation at this stage amid rival interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid who had put a deal in place for the £45m-rated Holland international last year.

United defender Chris Smalling, meanwhile, is due to return to training with the club on Monday. Roma maintain an interest in re-signing the 30-year-old after his impressive loan.

Huddersfield Town took the opportunity to check on United midfielder James Garner during Saturday's 3-3 draw between their respective U23 sides.

Huddersfield signed United goalkeeper Joel Pereira on loan for the season but are also keen on stylish 19-year-old Garner.

Meanwhile, Quinton Fortune, United's U23 assistant coach is in discussions about joining Championship side Reading as an assistant to new boss Veljko Paunovic.

Jack Grealish signs a new five-year contract at Aston Villa worth £135,000-a-week in a shock twist to scupper hopes of Manchester United

* Jack Grealish had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United
* United are believed to have tested the water for Grealish in the January window
* His new deal includes a pay rise of about £55,000 per week on his previous deal
* Villa had no interest in discussing a deal at anything below £80million for him

Jack Grealish has signed a new five-year deal worth about £135,000 per week to give Aston Villa a huge boost for the new season.

The Villa captain was admired by Manchester United but has now accepted a huge pay rise – an increase of about £55,000 per week on his previous salary – with his current club.

Once Grealish, 25, had helped Villa stay in the Premier League with a goal in the 1-1 draw at West Ham on the final day of last season, it was always going to be hugely difficult to prise him away this summer.

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has signed a new five-year contract at Villa Park. Grealish had been heavily linked with a summer transfer window move to Manchester United

Villa had no interest in discussing a deal for their homegrown star at anything below £80million – a fee only a handful of clubs could contemplate after the coronavirus pandemic reshaped the financial landscape of football.

Grealish's haul of eight goals and six assists in the league last term underlined his importance to the team and his decision to re-sign will delight manager Dean Smith, with whom Grealish shares a very close relationship.

Grealish said: 'The owners have made it very clear to me how ambitious they are and how they want to build Aston Villa. There are exciting times ahead and I am very glad to be part of it.'

United are believed to have tested the water for Grealish in January but their priority during this window has been Jadon Sancho, with Borussia Dortmund holding firm on their asking price in excess of £100m.

The 25-year-old will earn £135,000 a week and announced the new deal on the club's Twitter. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United are believed to have tested the waters for Grealish in January. But Grealish has now extended his stay at his boyhood club having made his debut in 2013-14

Grealish's ambition is to play in the Champions League but he has recently forced his way into Gareth Southgate's England squad, making his senior debut in the Nations League clash in Denmark earlier this month.

With Grealish's immediate future secured, Villa will be aiming for better progress this season after they stayed up last term by a single point.

They have already broken their transfer record to sign Brentford striker Ollie Watkins in a deal that could be worth £33m, as well as signing right-back Matty Cash for £16m from Nottingham Forest. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is poised to join from Arsenal, along with Lyon winger Bertrand Traore, who had a medical on Monday.

Villa could take their spending beyond £100m for the second successive summer if they can agree a deal for Werder Bremen attacker Milot Rashica, and sign another centre-forward.

The club will listen to offers for a number of players who signed permanently after promotion in 2019, including Frederic Guilbert, Bjorn Engels, Marvelous Nakamba, Anwar El Ghazi and Mbwana Samatta, along with winger Jota, midfielder Henri Lansbury and goalkeepers Orjan Nyland and Lovre Kalinic.

Villa chief executive Christian Purslow added: 'We are determined to build a top team around him and are delighted that he is extending his contract and committing himself to the club he loves.'

Manchester United must be kicking themselves for not signing Jack Grealish this summer, says Paul Ince - after they failed to move for him before England's latest star signed a new Aston Villa deal that has seen his value shoot up even higher

* Jack Grealish was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer
* A deal never materialised and Paul Ince says United must regret not signing him
* The midfielder has been a standout performer for Aston Villa and England
* Ince can see similarities between Grealish and ex-England ace Paul Gascoigne

anchester United must be regretting their failure to sign Jack Grealish this summer, claims Paul Ince.

Grealish has earned huge plaudits for his blistering start to the season with Aston Villa and is becoming an increasingly influential member of the England team after shining against Belgium last week and starting the 4-0 win over Iceland on Wednesday.

Ince believes United missed a trick by not pushing ahead with an £80million deal for the 25-year-old back in the summer and are being made to pay for the mistake now with Grealish in such fine form for club and country.

Paul Ince believes Man United must regret their failure to sign England star Jack Grealish now. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identified Grealish as a target but United never pushed ahead with a deal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made him one of his key targets but Grealish ended up signing a new five-year deal with Villa worth £135,000 per week to scupper United's hopes of landing him and boost his value even more.

The midfielder is being tipped to develop into a star player for Gareth Southgate's England side by Ince, who also admitted he can see similarities in the Villa man's game with his former international team-mate Paul Gascoigne.

Grealish has been in inspirational form of late, scoring four goals and assisting six more in just seven games so far this season, and firing Villa into sixth in the Premier League. He also won rave reviews for his displays over the international break and is starting to draw comparisons to Gazza, who was one of England's most skilful and creative players ever.

Speaking on the Gary Newbon Sports show on Punching.TV, the ex-United star said of the comparisons: 'I don't like it when people parallel you with someone else but I know people will. I know Bryan Robson said something the other day about Gazza and Jack Grealish, I mean Jack has done well and to be fair he has been brilliant for Villa.

'When Villa nearly went down last season I thought he was going to move on to another club, I know Tottenham were keen to take him and Manchester United. I bet they wish they took him now because he's been absolutely sensational.

Ince has been impressed with Grealish and is backing him to become a star player for England. 25-year-old Grealish has made a blistering start to the season, firing Aston Villa into sixth

'Jack's his own player, he's grown into his game, the way he carries the ball, he's got great balance. Does it remind me of Gazza? Yes and no, I wouldn't like to compare the two.

'You're right that Jack's got a long way to go but he certainly looks that type of player, the way he sets people up and he's got two good feet and he's got great balance and a great touch but he's got a long way to go before we start connecting him with Paul Gascoigne that's for sure.

'Gazza could control a game and dictate a game. He would play a game at his own pace and he would decide whether to be in gear one, two, three, four or five and I think you do see that with Jack Grealish at times, he will decide when he needs to step up a gear and he will be get better as he gets older.

'But the thing is with Gazza, people would man mark him or double mark him and it wouldn't be a problem. Eventually people will look at Jack Grealish and see him as a threat in the England team and it's how he deals with that.'

Ince admitted he can see similarities between Grealish and his ex-England pal Paul Gascoigne. The former United man however said he wants to see Grealish 'stay on his feet a bit more'

Ince, who earned 53 England caps during a career which spanned across two decades, did have one criticism of Grealish though.

'The only thing about Jack is I wish he'd stay on his feet a bit more. That's the only kind of negative thing I'd say about Jack because sometimes he gets a touch and he goes flying,' he added.

'The amount of tackles Gazza used to ride, people used to kick him and trip his feet and I would love to see Jack do that a bit more. That's the only thing, apart from that Jack is a wonderful player and it's amazing how long it took him to get into the England side, at times he couldn't even get in the squad but now he's a regular and doing really well.'

Aston Villa ready to snub January bids for talisman Jack Grealish amid interest from Manchester United and City in £100m-rated midfielder

* Manchester United opted not to meet Villa’s £80m asking price this summer
* Grealish then signed a five-year deal with a significantly higher buy-out clause
* The midfielder has played an integral part in Villa's impressive start to the season

Aston Villa plan to dismiss any approaches for Jack Grealish during the January transfer window despite renewed interest from leading clubs.

The playmaker signed a new five-year deal worth more than £100,000 per week in the summer – with a significantly higher buy-out clause – after Manchester United opted not to meet Villa’s £80million asking price and has since enjoyed a superb start to the campaign, with five goals and seven assists in 15 matches to help his club to eighth in the table.

Both United and Manchester City continue to follow Grealish’s progress with interest, and he has also attracted attention abroad.

But Sportsmail understands there is little prospect of Villa entertaining bids for their talisman this month.

The club’s wealthy owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, have spent heavily in each of the past two summers as they try to turn Villa into a Champions League outfit and they are in no mood to countenance offers for the best player.

Villa, meanwhile, will assess the progress of Wesley this month before deciding whether to move for a forward before the deadline.

The Brazilian has not played since damaging knee ligaments in the win at Burnley on January 1 last year but Villa hope he will start to train again regularly with the first-team squad this month.

Villa boss Dean Smith is happy with his squad but he is slightly short of options in attack, where Keinan Davis is the only like-for-like alternative to first-choice centre-forward Ollie Watkins.

If Wesley is deemed ready for first-team action before the end of this month, Davis may be allowed to join a Championship club on loan.

musim lalu mati2an kejar Sancho, gak dilepas karena uang transfer gak bisa dipenuhi. musim ini performa Sancho agak menurun, gak terlalu ngebet lagi. incar Grealish eh Villanya selamat dari degradasi, Grealish perpanjang kontrak juga, Villa musim ini lumayan bagus, ada dipapan tengah, ya jelas Villa gak mau lepas. daripada incar Grealish mending beli bek saja walaupun sebenarnya butuh juga biar gak bergantung sama Bruno doank
