'Let's hope they aren't too serious': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces anxious wait to see extent of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial injuries after Manchester United fall to PSG defeat

* Man United lost 2-0 to PSG in the Champions League last-16 first leg
* Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial were both substituted in the first half
* United are unable to determine of the magnitude of Lingard and Martial's injuries
* The Red Devils will have to 'wait a couple of days' before giving a diagnosis

Manchester United face a nervous wait to find out the severity of injuries suffered by Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial in the Champions League last-16 first leg tie against PSG.

The Red Devils were defeated 2-0 by Les Parisiens thanks to second-half goals by Prisnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe, with United midfielder Paul Pogba being shown a late red card.

Speaking after the game, Man United boss Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer said: 'Jesse and Anthony give us something, let's hope they are not too serious. They are muscle injuries so we will have to wait a couple of days.'

Jesse Lingard was withdrawn in first half stoppage time in the game against PSG. Lingard held his thigh before being substituted in the Champions League last 16 first leg tie

Martial went to ground on 45 minutes, still feeling the effects of a heavy challenge by PSG midfielder Marco Verratti.

Lingard then had to be replaced in first-half stoppage time, with the midfielder collapsing to the turf while holding his hamstring, before limping towards the dugout

'Today was a kind of a reality check on the level of the top teams,' Solskjaer added.

'That is the level we want to get to. Top four is one thing. United should be at the top. They are a top team.

Anthony Martial also had to be replaced on 45 minutes after suffering a muscle injury. The Frenchman was on the receiving end of a robust tackle by PSG midfielder Marco Verratti

'They [our players] know we need to step up our level. We are disappointed.

'There is a determination in the dressing room to put this right,' the Norwegian said, looking ahead to the away leg on March 6.

'We will give it a go. If we get to half-time with a one-goal lead, that is what we have to aim for.'

semoga mereka fit pas lawan Liverpool, mana Sanchez yg gantiin 'gak bisa ngapa2in', kalo gak fit kemungkinan Rashford digeser ke sayap, Lukaku jadi target man

Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard major doubts for Chelsea FA Cup clash

* Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard went off injured in the first half against PSG
* The Manchester United attackers are doubts for Chelsea and possibly Liverpool
* Martial and Lingard have been key for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since he took over

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are major doubts for Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night after limping out of the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-German.

Martial went off at half-time after appearing to suffer a recurrence of a groin problem. It limited his ability to play successive games earlier in the season and this was his second game in four days.

Lingard went down clutching his left hamstring and had to go off in added time at the end of the first half after receiving treatment.

Anthony Martial is a major doubt for Manchester United's FA Cup clash with Chelsea

United are anxiously waiting for the results of scans on both players amid fears that they will not be fit in time to face Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Losing both Martial and Lingard would be a major setback for caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given how much he has relied on their attacking trident with Marcus Rashford since taking over in December.

Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata are now on standby to come in against Chelsea and, possibly, against Liverpool a week on Sunday.

‘You don't know with muscular injuries, hamstring and groin,’ said Solskjaer.

‘We'll need a couple of days to assess them. Jesse and Anthony are big parts of our squad.

'They’ve played really well. We need to find a different way to play when Anthony and Jesse are out.’

Alexis Sanchez injured after running into linesman while warming up during Manchester United's defeat by PSG

* Alexis Sanchez was injured in a freak incident during Man United's 2-0 defeat
* The Chile star collided with a linesman while he was warming up at Old Trafford
* Sanchez is now battling to be fit for Monday's FA Cup fifth-round tie at Chelsea
* Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are already serious doubts for the cup clash

Alexis Sanchez was injured in a freak incident during Manchester United's defeat by Paris Saint-Germain - colliding with a linesman while he was warming up.

Chile star Sanchez is now battling to be fit for Monday's FA Cup tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard already serious doubts for the fifth-round clash.

Sanchez was preparing to come on for Lingard, who had strained his left hamstring towards the end of the first half in the 2-0 Champions League defeat.

However, the United substitute became distracted by the match action as he jogged along the touchline and ran straight into Italian linesman Fabiano Preti.

The collision floored Sanchez who recovered sufficiently to replace Lingard moments before half-time, but he informed United's coaching staff that he had suffered a leg injury above the knee.

The decision was taken to keep him out on the pitch to stop his leg from stiffening up and Sanchez spent the interval warming up in a training top.

Alexis Sanchez was injured in a freak incident during Man United's loss to Paris Saint-Germain. Chile star Sanchez collided with a linesman while he was warming up at Old Trafford

The bizarre incident is the latest setback in Sanchez's troubled United career since he arrived from Arsenal 13 months ago as the club's highest earner on £500,000 a week.

The 30-year-old was recovering from a hamstring injury when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December and has started only three times in 12 games under the new caretaker manager. He has scored twice this season.

Sanchez once again failed to impress off the bench against PSG and Solskjaer admitted that only the player himself can solve his problems at Old Trafford. 'I'm not the one, I can't do anything about Alexis Sanchez,' said United's manager. 'When he plays, he needs to find himself because we know there's a quality player there.'

While Solskjaer returned to Norway to see his family and the squad were given a day off, United were anxiously waiting for news on Sanchez, Martial and Lingard on Wednesday. Martial was replaced by Juan Mata at half-time after appearing to aggravate a groin injury.

The Frenchman started for the second time in four days on Tuesday night with Solskjaer seemingly reluctant to name Sanchez in the line-up against either Fulham or PSG.

A miserable night for Solskjaer against PSG was compounded when Paul Pogba was sent off towards the end of the game. He will miss the second leg in Paris early next month.

However, Ander Herrera believes United's away wins over Tottenham and Arsenal under Solskjaer gives them hope that the last-16 tie can be salvaged.

'We have good examples,' said Herrera. 'We won away against Tottenham, we won against Arsenal.

'They are teams that are as good as PSG, so we will go there to try and make it difficult for them.'

UNITED DEALT TRIPLE INJURY BLOW

Manchester United were dealt a triple injury blow in the goalless draw against Liverpool, after Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and substitute Jesse Lingard were all forced to leave the field during the first half.

The situation meant United became the first Premier League team to make three substitutions in the first half since Burnley had to do it in January 2015, in a game against Newcastle United.

Herrera was the first player to depart after 20 minutes, as he went down holding his hamstring. The Spaniard was replaced by Andreas Pereira.

Mata followed his compatriot back to the dressing room five minutes later after he was injured in a challenge from James Milner. United's no.8 had initially hobbled on and he successfully denied Mo Salah a goalscoring chance, but he was then replaced by Lingard.

After being called on earlier than he would have anticipated, Lingard soon went down himself, clutching his hamstring after an incident in which he almost broke the deadlock. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson did well to smother at his feet after he so nearly latched on to Romelu Lukaku’s through ball. Our no.14 did not recover and he had to give up his place to Alexis Sanchez on 40 minutes, just 15 minutes after coming on.

United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer subsequently revealed that Marcus Rashford had also picked up an injury, to his ankle inside the first minute.

“We probably we should have taken Marcus off as well,” admitted the Norwegian, in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

“He was injured in the first minute, with the first tackle they made on him – one of plenty. [Jordan] Henderson went through him, his ankle is like a balloon, and that was one of many fouls on him. If that’s not an accumulation of fouls I don’t know [what is].”

When asked if he was worried that Rashford could have made the injury worse by playing on, Solskjaer said: “Very, but he’s a warrior and he’s a Manc and he knows what this means. We had to keep him on, because we already had to make three subs.

”You’re never surprised in football. You’ve always got to be ready for anything, [even] losing three players in the first half with hamstring injuries.“

Despite the injuries, Solskjaer is confident he will still be able to select a strong side to face Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening at Selhurst Park.

”We’ve lost a few with muscle injuries, hamstrings, but we’ve got some good kids coming through, so don’t worry about it,“ he said defiantly. ”We’ll have 11 players on the pitch on Wednesday night as well. Luckily we’ve got two days of recovery.”

Manchester United are left hamstrung: Long list of injuries for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but distressed Marcus Rashford soldiers on against Liverpool

* Manchester United drew 0-0 with rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced into making three changes before half-time
* Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were all hit by hamstring injuries
* Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, played on despite clearly being in some distress

One by one, they limped off the pitch past Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard nursing hamstring injuries. We hadn't reached half-time at Old Trafford and Manchester United had used all three substitutes.

One of them was Lingard but he only lasted another 18 minutes after replacing Mata. Alexis Sanchez took his place. Andreas Pereira was on for Herrera.

All the while, the man Solskjaer really wanted to take off was still out there.

After 21 minutes on Sunday, Ander Herrera had to go off after suffering a hamstring injury

Only four minutes later, injury to Juan Mata forced Manchester United into a second change

Two minutes before half time their injury misery was complete when Jesse Lingard went off

Each time play came to a halt, Marcus Rashford sat on his haunches or bent over, hands on knees, clearly in some distress.

It had been that way from the moment Jordan Henderson clattered into Rashford's right ankle with the game little more than a quarter of an hour old.

That wasn't the only time Liverpool paid very close attention to the young England striker whose two goals inside 24 minutes settled this fixture last season.

The memory of that defeat might well have influenced Jurgen Klopp's decision to leave out Trent Alexander-Arnold here and play the more experienced James Milner at right back. Either way, Liverpool seemed determined not to let lightning strike twice.

Solskjaer chose his words carefully afterwards but he didn't have to look far for a reason why Rashford has joined a worryingly long list of injury doubts for Wednesday's trip to Crystal Palace despite soldiering on to the end of this game.

Marcus Rashford had to play the full 90 minutes despite suffering a knock to his ankle. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left to rue the injuries following their 0-0 draw with rivals Liverpool

'I think you can't say 'targeted' but you can say there were quite a few fouls on him, definitely,' said United's caretaker boss, who began the day without two other regular starters in Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic.

'Normally I would take him off after five minutes, because whoever it was went straight through him. His ankle blew up straight away, but he wanted to run it off. Then I couldn't take him off with Juan and Jesse going off, so we're hoping he's not done too much damage. If he plays (at Palace) I'll be surprised.'

On the other occasion Solskjaer dropped points in the Premier League, there was credit to be had in a 2-2 draw with Burnley as United staged a late fightback.

Here, too, the Norwegian could be happy with his players for overcoming adversity to earn a draw.

'I've never seen the like of this before,' he added. 'Three hamstrings in the first half, and Rashy was kicked and did his ankle. We played with 10-and-a-half players but the fans and Rashy's attitude made up for it.

'I was very impressed by my team today — the attitude and character we showed in adversity. Everything that could have gone wrong in the first half went wrong. We had four injuries and it seemed like it was going to be a tough afternoon.

'I learned a lot about my players. Scott McTominay was excellent. Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling were fantastic. Luke Shaw gave his best performance under me. When they need a goal and they take off Mohamed Salah, you know Shaw has had a good game.

'I can't remember Liverpool having a chance. They dominated the possession, but we had the biggest chances.'

Solskjaer admitted that he might have to investigate the cause of so many hamstring injuries after suffering four in the last three games. Lingard was risked just 11 days after going off in the Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, although Solskjaer believes the England international may have suffered a fresh injury when Fabinho pulled him back.

'We might have to look at that, but it's different players,' he said. 'I never thought Juan Mata would get a hamstring injury!'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he rushed Jesse Lingard back from injury too soon as Man United boss faces major selection headache ahead of Crystal Palace trip with up to NINE players out

* Manchester United may be without nine injured players for trip to Crystal Palace
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Jesse Lingard returned from injury too early
* Lingard went off with hamstring problem during Sunday's draw with Liverpool
* He had been hurried back after suffering injury 11 days earlier against PSG
* Anthony Martial, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata all ruled out
* Marcus Rashford also picked up an ankle knock during Sunday's goalless draw

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted the physical demands he imposes on Manchester United's stars have contributed to a spate of muscle problems.

United have an injury crisis ahead of Wednesday night's match at Crystal Palace, with up to nine players unavailable. Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard were forced off before half-time in Sunday's draw against Liverpool with hamstring issues.

Solskjaer conceded Lingard, who had replaced Mata off the bench, probably returned from a previous hamstring problem too early.

Solskjaer takes his United side to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Wednesday night. Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted he was wrong to rush Jesse Lingard back from injury after the forward limped out of Sunday's 0-0 draw with Liverpool

The interim manager did claim, however, that the intensity of his team needed improving and injuries are a by-product.

They are averaging 10 more sprints per match under Solskjaer than under Jose Mourinho.

'It's probably linked, yes, because when do you make that change?' Solskjaer said. 'Do you wait until pre-season and think you will change results by just not asking them to run? Or do we start now and show them what the demands are?

'We need to play as a Manchester United team and if you want to be a part of United, it is survival of the fittest.

'Some are getting older, aren't they? Juan, Ander, Nemanja (Matic). But it's not just us. Manchester City have a couple of muscle injuries.'

Herrera could miss the best part of a month and Scott McTominay is set to start in midfield at Selhurst Park in Matic's absence.

Academy trio Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner have travelled with the squad.

Romelu Lukaku will lead the line. Solskjaer agrees with the striker that he needs to shed muscle to influence their quest for a top-four finish and FA Cup glory — and put that down to the World Cup campaign with Belgium.

'Muscle is not so difficult to get rid of,' Solskjaer added. 'He's lean, but he's muscly. I can understand why (Lukaku bulked up).

'When you go to a World Cup and you see the teams you play, it might be that his physicality took over that part of his preparation.

'We ask our forwards to work at a higher intensity, run in behind. But that's what Rom likes, so he'll be fine.'

Solskjaer also indicated he has seen an increased professionalism in the squad. 'It's not just playing, training and then going home to do these little out-of-football activities that we've all seen too many footballers doing,' he said.

'I'm pleased with the way my lads responded, that we don't see too much of them outside football. That was a big part of my career — as long as you're a Premier League footballer, make the most of it, because suddenly you get these injuries and you're done.'

Former United defender Gary Neville has suggested a player 'mutiny' would erupt if Solskjaer was not handed the job permanently. The Norwegian said: 'The players will have a say in the way we play the rest of the season.

'It's not like I'm walking around and (going), 'Come on!' Gary is known for his opinions and comments, so that's his job.'

ALEXIS INJURY CONCERN AFTER WIN OVER SOUTHAMPTON

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Alexis Sanchez's injury.

The Chilean was hurt at the start of the second half, as the Reds won 3-2 in an entertaining clash, following an awkward collision inside the Saints' penalty area.

Clearly frustrated at having to leave the field, after providing some telling passes in the opening period, he made way for substitute Diogo Dalot.

“We don't know yet,” said Ole. “He got a knock on his knee. It might be his ligaments. We'll do the scan tomorrow.

”Hopefully, it won't be too bad but we won't know until we've done the scans. Of course, we'll have to wait until then.“

Any ligament damage would surely sideline the 30-year-old. Marcus Rashford played the full 90 minutes to prove his fitness ahead of the Paris Saint-Germain tie in the Champions League in midweek.

Paul Pogba is suspended for the match in his homeland, of course, but there could be a hope Anthony Martial is available to take the spot on the left flank.

The Reds trail 2-0 from the first leg at Old Trafford but confidence remains high in the camp.

OLE REVEALS INJURY BOOST AHEAD OF ARSENAL CLASH

Manchester United have been given a quadruple boost on the injury front ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Arsenal, with Anthony Martial among three players in line for a possible return to first-team duties and Eric Bailly available.

Caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke to the media at the Aon Training Complex on Friday morning, and revealed Frenchman Martial could be in line to play for the first time since picking up an injury in the first leg of United’s Champions League last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain on 12 February.

The Norwegian also suggested that Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera could be involved and revealed that Bailly is okay after suffering a heavy challenge from PSG’s Marco Verratti on Wednesday evening.

“Eric's fine,” said the boss. “Anthony will be available and, hopefully, we'll have Nemanja and/or Ander ready as well, so we're looking better for it. They just need to have another couple of days' training with the team. They've done well in their recovery work.”

United also have Paul Pogba available for selection, after the midfielder missed the magnificent win in Paris due to a European suspension.

“Paul was over there training with us and in the dressing room and the meetings, so he wanted to be a part of that game,” explained Solskjaer. “It’s great that he had a couple of days off after Southampton, so it was the least he could do!”

Questioned about the fatigue that the epic win against PSG might leave in the legs of United’s players, Ole was positive, and noted Arsenal’s exertions on Thursday evening against Rennes.

“We’re alright,” stated Solskjaer. “Arsenal played 24 hours later than us and, of course, it will be tougher for them, so we’ll be ready for Sunday, definitely.”

ARSENAL UPDATE

The Gunners approach Sunday’s match following the disappointment of a 3-1 defeat away to Rennes, in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Alex Iwobi gave Unai Emery’s men the perfect start in north-west France, but the game turned after a red card was awarded to defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Breton side immediately fought their way back into the contest, equalising before half-time and adding two further strikes in the second period.

On Sunday, Arsenal will be without midfielder Lucas Torreira, who received a red card for a tackle on Danny Rose in last weekend’s north London derby. The Uruguayan will miss three games. Also likely to be unavailable are long-term absentees Hector Bellerin (knee), Rob Holding (knee) and former United forward and Academy graduate Danny Welbeck (ankle).

Blow for Manchester United as foot injury rules Romelu Lukaku out of FA Cup quarter-final clash with Wolves

* Manchester United will be without Romelu Lukaku for FA Cup clash with Wolves
* Lukaku sustained a foot injury meaning United will be without four forwards
* He picked up the injury at Paris Saint Germain and aggravated it at Arsenal
* Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are all out for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Romelu Lukaku is set to miss Manchester United's FA Cup quarter-final at Wolves with a foot injury.

Lukaku's absence would be another blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is already without three forwards - Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata - for the game at Molineux on Saturday night.

Lukaku is understood to have sustained the injury in the Champions League win over Paris-Saint Germain and aggravated it in last week's defeat at Arsenal.

Romelu Lukaku will miss Manchester United's FA Cup quarter final clash with Wolves

The 25-year-old striker has been having treatment at Carrington all week but is unlikely to play.

He will report for international duty with Belgium on Sunday and undergo further scans, but is already considered a doubt for the games against Russia and Cyprus.

Lukaku has been in excellent form, scoring six goals in three matches against Crystal Palace, Southampton and PSG before drawing a blank at the Emirates last week.

The £75million striker has also been shedding some muscle weight, and MailOnline revealed that he has switched his pre-match meal to ham and cheese omelette from a heavier pasta dish.

Lukaku's injury also comes at a time when United's injury problems appeared to be easing. Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial returned at Arsenal, and Ander Herrera is expected to be available against Wolves following a hamstring injury.

Lingard and Mata should be fit again after the international break, while Sanchez is set to be out until next month.

If Lukaku is ruled out against Wolves, Solskjaer is likely to play a 4-4-2 formation again with Martial up front alongside Marcus Rashford.
