Re: Criticism Moyes Strategy

Re: Criticism Moyes Strategy
United are clueless and just predictable... their wingers were slow and ineffective
* David Moyes' Manchester United side play with too much width * Their wingers need to copy Arjen Roben and Eden Hazard and come inside * Arsenal will be keeping close tabs on Joel Campbell's progress * David de Gea was unlucky not to be able to reach Olympiacos' first goal Manchester United created so little in attack on Tuesday because they were completely static and had so few options on the ball in midfield. It’s a problem with the way they set up because their wide players stay wide and that makes it much more difficult to get them on the ball. The modern day winger no longer hugs the touchline but comes inside to get involved in the play. Unstuck: Antonio Valencia was poor on a night when United needed their wingers to stand out Little impact: David Moyes screams at his team from the sidelines but to no avail Look at Eden Hazard at Chelsea and Arjen Robben for Bayern Munich. They play on the wing but come inside to create more options in central areas. United just did not do that and Olympiacos were happy to let them have possession at the back because they were so ineffective with it. There was no freedom of movement and too often the central midfielders had to come far too deep to collect the ball. They need to move it more quickly and into dangerous areas, not just passing it for the sake of it. But it’s up to the wide men like Antonio Valencia to come inside and offer the extra options to get United moving. The tie is not over, but they will need to create one of those famous old European nights at Old Trafford if they want to get through. A new club in the summer? Ashley Young was another who proved very ineffective in Athens Joel’s goal I was impressed with Joel Campbell. The Arsenal youngster has been on loan across Europe and looked good. He’s got great athleticism and an excellent left foot, as he proved with his goal. He did Michael Carrick with a lovely bit of skill and then used Rio Ferdinand as a shield to curl the ball round. If he keeps it up, he could be back on these shores before too long. On target: He scored Olympiacos' second of the night with a well placed shot past David de Gea Olympiacos clearly had a game plan and it worked. They let United keep the ball but pressed them when they needed to. Everyone knew their roles and responsibilities and it was a good team performance. The first Olympiacos goal was a clever flick, but there was still an element of luck to it when it fell just beyond David de Gea’s fingertips. You have to wonder if Sir Alex Ferguson used up all of United’s luck and left none for David Moyes. Reaching for it: De Gea was unable to scramble across and keep out the first goal after a deflection Beaten: He then couldn't reach Campbell's strike which made it 2-0 Code:
