Schmeichel flattered by link with Bayern Munich

Notts County goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel claims that he is flattered to be linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich after being told he can leave for free in the summer.

Schmeichel - son of Manchester United and Denmark legend Peter - will depart Meadow Lane for nothing in the transfer window as the League Two club had signed him on a big-money four-year contract, which they now believe is not viable in their current financial state.

Now a host of Premier League clubs are being linked with the goalkeeper's services, together with some on the continent and Schmeichel is happy with the speculation.

"Munich are a great team and it is an honour to be linked with them," he said.

Schmeichel's agent Mads Frederiksen, however, insists that as yet no talks are under way.

"It is obviously a great honour for him to be associated with Bayern Munich, but there is nothing on it - we have nothing concrete from any clubs," he told TV2 Sport. "We are not ruling anything out, we are just working on some opportunities."

Setw gw talent Kasper jauh dr Bokapnya nih. Di City aja ga kepake, kalah sm Hart. Kalo doi punya talent yg bagus,mungkin dr dulu Scout United udh narik Kasper buat jd penerus klan Schmeichel di United.

Wolfsburg have appointed former England boss Steve McClaren as their new coach on a two-year deal, as exclusively revealed by Sportsmail last week.

The move comes after McClaren led FC Twente to the Dutch title for the first time in their history. He becomes the first Englishman to achieve such a feat on the continent since Sir Bobby Robson in 1996 with Porto.

'I had two fantastic years at Twente with a fabulous end but I promised my wife and kids I would stay there for two years. Now we all will move to Germany,' McClaren said in Dutch newspaper TC Tubantia.

The 49-year-old replaces interim coach Lorenz-Guenther Koestner, who took over at Wolfsburg from Armin Veh midway through the season.

McClaren is known to have attracted interest back in Britain - but he turned down the chance to manage West Ham in favour of a new experience in Germany.

Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga title in 2009 but they only finished eighth this time out, meaning they will be without European football next season.

The German outfit were knocked out of the Europa League by Fulham earlier this season after failing to get out the Champions League group with Manchester United.

McClaren's detraction from the Dutch league will come as a bitter blow to his club.

'Steve is an idol in Holland, everyone likes him and he is every inch a gentleman, he is a wise man,' club chairman Joop Munsterman said recently.

Asked what his reaction would be if McClaren was approached by other clubs, he said: 'Stay away, please.

'Like at Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool - we want him to stay for a long time because he did his job in Enschede, but we expect him to do that - we saw that at Middlesbrough.'
