John O’Shea: A man for every occasion
-footballfancast.com-

A successful team is not made up of a few key players, it is not made up of a starting eleven and it is not even made up a starting eleven and substitutes. A successful team involves a full squad. For years now Manchester United have been one of the best, if not the best club in the world. During his time at Old Trafford, there is one thing that Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United sides have always had and that is strength in depth.

The current United side is no different. The Red Devil’s have several quality squad players whom they rely on in times of need, take Park Ji Sung or Johnny Evans for instance. However in my opinion, one of the most important players in the whole of Manchester United’s side is John O’Shea.

Anyone who has read any of my previous articles with know that a skill that I keenly admire in a player is versatility, something that John O’Shea has in abundance. The Irishman is widely regarded as one of the most versatile players in the Premier League and his importance to Alex Ferguson’s side cannot be underestimated. Sure he does not possess the same flair as players such as Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov, but nevertheless he remains a key member of the team.

O’Shea is a man for every occasion and it is a huge compliment to him that in times of need, no matter where the position, Ferguson will often turn to O’Shea. An example was seen in February 2007 after an injury to goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar. With United unable to use any more substitutes, John O’Shea was instructed to deputise in goal and although this may not been seen as significant, it still shows the faith United have in O’Shea to do any job.

Despite not really having a set position, in recent seasons O’Shea has begun to be known as a right back for Manchester United. He has been immensely important in the last few campaigns with injuries to Gary Neville and Wes Brown leaving a gap on the right side of defence. Although there has been the recent emergence of young prospect Rafael Da Silva in the wing back role, I am of the firm belief that in big games O’Shea will still be favoured due to his experience; last year’s Champions League final was evidence of this.

Although he is by no means known for his goal scoring prowess, O’Shea has still scored his fair share of key goals for Man United. An injury time winner against Liverpool helped United regain the 2006-07 title and another in a 1-0 win in the Champions League first leg against Arsenal prove that he can pop up to score a crucial goal for his side.

One of the glamorous names of the Manchester United team John O’Shea is definitely not, yet I believe him to still be one of the more important members of the squad. His ability is backed up by his importance to his national side, the Republic of Ireland. He may be a little overshadowed at times at Old Trafford but the importance of his role at United should not be overlooked.

Fergie confirms O'Shea blow
Irishman set to miss rest of the season

John O'Shea is set to miss the rest of the season, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed.

O'Shea has not played since Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off defeat to France in mid-November.

When O'Shea first returned to Manchester, it was believed he had not suffered anything worse than a dead leg.

But complications have arisen and it now transpires he has a blood clot and will now miss the rest of the campaign.
Terrible

"He's got a terrible injury at the moment," Ferguson said in the Irish Independent.

"It's one of those sorts of injuries that are unusual. It's like a dead leg except a dead leg is usually only three or four days.

"The problem is that the blood clot became all knotted and when it gets knotted you get calcification so therefore it's a long process to clear that up and he'll probably miss the season now.

"It's a bad blow for the boy and for the team because he can play anywhere.

"When you look at all the problems I've had with the back four this season, he could have played every single one."

get well soon John.. United need you...

O'Shea Tuntaskan Musim Lebih Cepat
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detiksport

bener2 pantang menyerah.........

O'Shea eyeing return
Utility player aiming to be back in March

John O'Shea is targeting a return to action within weeks to bolster Manchester United's campaigns in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

The utility player believes he could be back in action in March, which would be a massive bonus for the league leaders given Sir Alex Ferguson once thought the 28-year-old may miss the rest of the season.

The United boss made the prediction after the Republic of Ireland international suffered complications in his recovery following an injury in November's heartbreaking World Cup play-off exit to France in Paris.

Ferguson has since reigned back that statement, instead expressing hope that O'Shea - who was originally diagnosed with a dead leg - might play some part before next term.

But O'Shea insists his recovery mission is nowhere near so bleak and he is confident it will not be long before he is once again battling to help United land some silverware.

He told the Irish Examiner: "The boss said that I could be out for the rest of this season, but 'could' and 'would' are two very different words.

"To be honest, I am much more hopeful about my injury situation.

"I am improving at a very steady pace and I am very hopeful of being back in the action sometime in March."

O'Shea Berharap Sembuh Lebih Cepat
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport

Manchester United's John O'Shea refuses to set comeback date after three months out

Manchester United defender John O'Shea is refusing to set a comeback date even though he is edging closer to full fitness.

The Irishman has been out since November after suffering complications in his recovery from a dead leg he picked up during the latter stages of his country's controversial World Cup play-off defeat to France in November.

A blood clot caused such a significant setback Sir Alex Ferguson recently revealed O'Shea would be out of action for the remainder of the campaign. Ferguson subsequently pulled back from that stance.

However, while O'Shea is happy with the way things have gone, he is refusing to rush.

'It is progressing very well. I have been doing some running on the water treadmill and the normal treadmill and I have not had any setbacks yet,' he told Key103.

'The strength is improving. It is nearly 85% in my right leg. Once it is over 90 and nudging up towards 95 it is all systems go.

'But I am not going to set myself a target because it just adds to the speculation.'

Throughout his absence, O'Shea has been a frequent visitor to Old Trafford, watching Sir Alex Ferguson's men mount their bid for honours on three fronts.

It has been a frustrating time for the defender and he can't wait for the day it comes to an end.

'I am itching to get back,' he admitted. 'Once you see the Champions League starting back up you know that is the business end of the season starting up.

'You have to be careful when you are injured not to force yourself to come back too soon and get injured again.

'It is hugely frustrating.'

Wag of honour: Coleen Rooney attends wedding of Manchester United defender John O'Shea

She may have been banned from the World Cup - but Coleen Rooney is determined to have fun while husband Wayne is in South Africa.

The ''wag of honour' was pictured smiling broadly as she attended the wedding of Wayne's team-mate John O'Shea in Ireland yesterday.

The 29-year-old Manchester United and Ireland defender married Yvonne Manning, 27, in the small surrounds of the Lady Chapel in Maynooth, County Kildare.

Wag at the wedding: Coleen Rooney with her husband Wayne's cousin Claire, left, and similing broadly, right, at the wedding of John O'Shea and Yvonne Manning

A low-key couple, the duo steered clear of signing on the dotted line for a glossy magazine deal for their wedding - and instead opted to enjoy a small, tasteful ceremony with their friends and family.

But given the nature of the occasion, familiar faces were ten-a-penny.

Coleen, who attended with Wayne's cousin, Claire, lent a dash of glamour to the occasion when she arrived in a flowing purple maxi-dress, matched with a pair of eye-catching statement earrings.

And Coleen’s presence at the nuptials was a fitting one, as whispers of the duo’s wedding began when Yvonne beat off stiff competition from her fellow guests on the day, to catch the bouquet at the Rooney’s glitzy wedding in Italy in 2008.

Along with Coleen, the world of football was well-represented with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ireland player, Kevin Doyle and Manchester United’s Wes Brown – wearing an ill-judged striped suit - and Darron Gibson also in attendance.

While the defender’s Republic of Ireland team-mates Stephen Hunt, Andy Keogh and Daryl Murphy were also on hand to cheer on the happy couple,

Wedded bliss: John O'Shea, 29, with new wife Yvonne Manning, 27. Yvonne caught the bouquet at Coleen's wedding to Wayne two years ago

The long-term partner of the defender, Yvonne arrived at the church promptly yesterday afternoon, before the 2pm start time.

And the petite brunette looked every inch the blushing bride, in a demure, sleeveless white wedding-gown.

A stalwart source of support for the footballer over the years, one on-looker said that the bride looked ‘nervous but happy’ as she arrived at the church.

And the duo were happy to share their glad tidings with on-lookers after the ceremony, as they took time to pose for the waiting photographers before heading back to their lavish wedding reception at the exclusive Carton House Hotel.

Regarded as one of the most talented footballers to emerge from Ireland in the last decade, the defender has shied from the spotlight over the years.

But in 2008, he spoke of his years of enduring taunts from fans of rival football teams about his sexuality.

Speaking in an interview at the time, he said, ‘I’ve been gay for about five years, according to them. The Man City fans think I’m gay.’

‘It’s ridiculous,’ he added, ‘it’s just a bit of banter really.’

‘I just brush it off. It doesn't annoy me. I'm always ready for the sing-song when we play City.’

Glamorous guests: Coleen with Manchester United player Wes Brown, right, and his wife Leanne. Wayne Rooney is in South Africa preparing for the World Cup

Originally from Waterford, the duo now live in Cheshire – with Yvonne making the move to be close to the footballer a number of years ago.

Seldom spotted on the high-profile social scene, which surrounds the premiere league footballers, Yvonne made a rare public appearance in join in the rowdy celebrations after Manchester United scored their European Cup victory over Chelsea in Moscow a number of years ago.

Engaged since 2008, the footballer said at the time, ‘My girlfriend has always been there for me. It is a fantastic feeling.’

The duo are expected to enjoy a honeymoon in the sun, before the footballer has to report back to Old Trafford for pre-season training.
