Re: England - News and Rumours
England boss Gareth Southgate impressed by Marcus Rashford's 'swagger' as he praises striker's response to 'difficult end to the season' with Manchester United
* Marcus Rashford scored a fine opener as England beat Costa Rica at Elland Road * Gareth Southgate was full of praise for the 20-year-old after the 2-0 win in Leeds * Southgate acknowledged Rashford had endured a tough time at his club of late Gareth Southgate hailed Marcus Rashford's 'swagger' on Thursday night and claimed he is beginning to enjoy playing again. The 20-year-old scored a stunning opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica at Elland Road on a night which provided Southgate with a potential selection headache. Rashford looks set to go head-to-head with Raheem Sterling as England gear up to jet off to Russia ahead of their World Cup opener on June 18. 'What pleased me most is that he enjoyed his football tonight, he played with a real swagger,' Southgate said of Rashford. 'He's a Man United player and was booed at the start and cheered off at the end, so that tells you about his performance. 'Well I thought his linking was good, his individuality and running at people and taking people on in an around the penalty area was good. Of course it's a wonderful strike for the goal. And he worked incredibly hard for the team to press and shut down. Marcus Rashford (centre) shone in England's 2-0 win over Costa Rica on Thursday evening. ngland boss Gareth Southgate was impressed with Rashford and later praised his 'swagger' 'He had a difficult end to the season, having to play on his own as a nine at times. He's still filling out and growing, we often forget how young he is. But today he had that exuberance and you could see he was teasing defenders and it was lovely to see. 'We've got great competition for places right throughout the team, I think we saw that tonight. The team, the patterns of play, the professionalism, the tactical approach. Both matches we have carried things out really well.' Former England striker Ian Wright believes Rashford is going some way to proving doubters wrong after a stop-start season at Manchester United. Rashford scored a brilliant opener for England as he let fly with his right foot from long range 'We're looking at someone whose confidence is going through the roof at the moment,' Wright said. 'He looks like he's got a point to prove. He's someone I absolutely adore down the centre. 'Sterling is on the bench thinking "wow he's playing really well and scored a great goal, something I haven't really done for a while for England" and he'll realise "I need to up my game".' Southgate added he would 'sleep on' his starting XI as England escaped without injury despite Kieran Trippier's knock. 'We seem to have got through the two games without any serious injuries and we've got to have players that can come in and change matches when we're out there and chase games and shut games down,' he said. 'I'm really pleased with the three weeks preparation, we've given ourselves a really good platform.' Rashford was presented with a red bottle after being named the Vauxhall Man of the Match Code:

Re: England - News and Rumours
Sekali lagi Inggris kembali belum beruntung dalam turnamen internasional dan harus puas peringkat ke-4 di Piala Dunia 2018, padahal hingga babak semifinal penampilan mereka cukup baik. Sing sabar yaaa...

Re: England - News and Rumours
England axe to fall on Ashley Young but Manchester United team-mate Luke Shaw is poised for call-up
* Manager Gareth Southgate will name his latest England squad on Thursday * Ashley Young is expected to be left out with Luke Shaw a likely replacement * Southgate has spoken to Young who will continue to make himself available * Gary Cahill and Jamie Vardy retired from internationals but Young won't follow Ashley Young is set to be a shock omission from Gareth Southgate's squad on Thursday, opening the door for Luke Shaw to make an international return. Manchester United star Young was England's first-choice left wing-back during the World Cup but will miss the games against Spain and Switzerland next month. Shaw is the favourite to replace his club team-mate, though Leicester's Ben Chilwell is highly-rated by Southgate. Southampton's Ryan Bertand could also be in contention to replace Young having just missed out on a place in the squad that flew to Russia. A recall for Shaw, though, would mark quite a turnaround in fortunes for the United defender, who looked to be on his way out of Old Trafford last season. The left back has been a rare bright spot for United during the club's difficult opening to the season, and is back on Southgate's radar. Sportsmail understands Young has held talks with Southgate about his international future; during which the England manager emphasised his plan to introduce a number of youngsters into his squad. Luke Shaw (left) is expected to replace Ashley Young (front, right) in the latest England squad Young will be 35 by the time Euro 2020 finishes, which casts doubt over his place in Southgate's long-term plans. And the former Aston Villa man accepts Southgate's desire to refresh his squad with youth, though will remain available for selection in the event of any injury crisis. Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill announced their decisions to take a step back from international football on Tuesday, but will also make themselves available in an emergency. Sportsmail can also reveal Watford midfielder Will Hughes is in contention due to his performances so far this season. Jamie Vardy (left) and former captain Gary Cahill have both retired from international football The FA have requested fitness reports on Hughes and team-mate Nathaniel Chalobah. Teenagers Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden are also pushing for call-ups, as is Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson. It was thought Phil Jones's injury could open the door to Declan Rice after it was revealed that the West Ham defender, who has Ireland caps, had been approached by the FA. However, it is unlikely because of the time it takes to finalise paperwork. Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland will be sweating on his role as No 2 as he is now playing in the Championship. Indeed, Fulham defender Alfie Mawson, who broke into Southgate's plans last season, has said the England boss advised him to leave Swansea following their relegation. Mawson said: 'The last time I spoke to him he said if you want to get back in (the England squad), the Premier League is a must.' Burnley keeper Nick Pope is injured which means Southgate will be forced to make at least one change to the goalkeepers he took to Russia. Pope's club team-mate Tom Heaton is fit again and Southampton's Alex McCarthy is on Southgate's radar, while Joe Hart is hoping for a recall. Code:

Re: England - News and Rumours
Wayne Rooney to join up with England on Monday and train with the squad as FA commemorate comeback with '120oney' poster
* Wayne Rooney has been given a shock recall to England set-up for one match * The former England captain will come off the bench against USA next Thursday * Next week's friendly will be called 'The Wayne Rooney Foundation International' Wayne Rooney is expected to join up with the England squad on Monday ahead of his shock international return. Rooney will train with the rest of the Three Lions squad as normal ahead of the friendly match against USA at Wembley on November 15. The Football Association have confirmed England's all-time leading goalscorer will be included in Gareth Southgate's squad to face USA. England commemorated Wayne Rooney's comeback with a special poster ahead of his return. Rooney will wear England colours for one last time against the USA at Wembley next Thursday Rooney, who has scored 53 goals for England, will make a brief cameo towards the end of the Wembley clash in a move designed to commemorate the legendary striker's international career. The former Manchester United star, who announced his international retirement 15 months ago, will train as normal with the rest squad before leaving the camp ahead of England's UEFA Nations League tie against Croatia on November 18. FA sources insist Rooney's selection will not impact on the party Southgate would have selected for the USA clash, meaning an extended squad of 24 players is likely to be named. The FA had planned to confirm Rooney's one-off return on Tuesday, but were forced to bring forward the announcement after the news was leaked to The Sun on Sunday. The FA are unhappy they were put in that position on Sunday. It has also been confirmed the friendly will be called 'The Wayne Rooney Foundation International'. Quote:
Rooney's last international appearance came against Scotland on November 11, 2016. The DC United striker will turn out for his country against the USA in a fundraising friendly Rooney's foundation will be one of a number of charities who will benefit from he proceeds of the friendly. On his one-off international return, Rooney said: 'Playing for England was the greatest honour of my career – so winning my 120th, and final, cap will be a particularly special moment for me.' Southgate added: 'Acknowledging the Three Lions legacy has been a major part of our journey with this current group of young players. 'This tribute to Wayne is a unique opportunity that is befitting of our nation's record goalscorer.' Code:

Re: England - News and Rumours
