Default Re: [2021-2022] Manchester United ~ Transfer Rumors

Borussia Dortmund 'are considering Anthony Martial as replacement for Erling Haaland but think misfiring Man United forward is too expensive'... with the Bundesliga giants using THIRTY scouts to find their new striker

* Borussia Dortmund are trying to find a replacement for striker Erling Haaland
* Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been considered as an option
* But United want between £42m and £47m for the out of favour French forward
* Dortmund have 30 scouts looking for a replacement for the in-demand Haaland

Anthony Martial is reportedly among the list of Borussia Dortmund targets to replace Erling Haaland if he is to leave the German club this summer - but the Manchester United striker is deemed too expensive at present.

Haaland has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the last two transfer windows with United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool all interested in the goalscoring sensation.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are also know to be admirers, while Bayern Munich have been rumoured to want Haaland as the long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Haaland has a release clause believed to be between £64million and £86m in his Dortmund contract that will become active next summer. Reports last week even suggested Haaland will be available for as little as £77m.

The 21-year-old has scored a remarkable 68 goals in 67 appearances for Dortmund since joining in January 2020. That follows 29 goals in 27 games for former club Red Bull Salzburg.

His record has led to Europe's top clubs battling for his signature and Dortmund have already reportedly started to weigh up new strikers to replace him with no less than 30 scouts on the hunt.

One of them, according to German outlet SPORT1, is Manchester United's Martial, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford after injury problems and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anthony Martial is reportedly among a list of Dortmund targets to replace Erling Haaland. Martial finds himself as United's third-choice striker and has barely played so far this season. Haaland has scored a remarkable 68 goals in 67 appearances for Dortmund since joining

Martial finds himself as United's third-choice striker with Edinson Cavani also ahead of him, while Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho are preferred out wide.

Even Paul Pogba is now being used in the left-sided position by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Martial has played just 190 minutes in six appearances for United so far this season.

Dortmund's scouting staff have been told to look for players between the ages of 19 and 24 who they can sign for a smaller fee, like Haaland.

But Martial is 25 and would command a substantial fee, given United paid Monaco £36m to make him the world's most expensive teenage footballer back in 2015.

But he is considered to be a 'like for like' replacement for Haaland and it is claimed United would be willing to sell for a fee between £42m and £47m.

At present that fee plus his wages - Martial earns around £200,000 a week - is considered too much for Dortmund, who were interested in signing Martial three years ago.

The German giants are said to be planning initial talks with options this winter as they prepare for Haaland's departure. They signed Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven this summer for £26m.

Other names linked with filling Haaland's space at Dortmund are Nice duo Kasper Dolberg and Amine Gouiri. PSV's Noni Madueke has also been linked but the winger would not be a direct replacement for Haaland.

Lautaro Martinez has been put forward as an option but the Inter Milan star is also deemed to be too expensive for Dortmund.

Despite the expectation that Haaland will leave, Dortmund's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says the club will not feel any financial pressure to sell their prized asset.

It had been reported that Dortmund will feel compelled to sell Haaland, who has scored 11 goals in eight matches so far this season, because they are listed on the stock exchange and will need to pay investors.

But Watzke told Sport1: 'It has not yet been decided whether he will really leave in the summer. We'll just have a look.

'I heard someone say: "They have to sell Haaland because they are listed on the stock exchange." This is all bulls***.

'The decision whether someone is sold at our company is made by the management and only by the management.'

Everton chief Marcel Brands refuses to rule out January move for Donny van de Beek as he says 'it is a pity' the Dutchman is barely getting a kick at Manchester United

* Everton are interested in making another attempt to sign Donny van de Beek
* Director of football Marcel Brands said they tried to get him on loan last summer
* The Dutchman has played only five minutes of Premier League football this term
* 'Such a boy wants to play and return to the Dutch national team,' Brands said

Everton have revealed they tried to sign Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United in the summer and are potentially interested in making another attempt to bring the out-of-favour midfielder to Goodison Park in January.

Van de Beek had a hugely disappointing first season at United following his £35.5million move from Ajax in 2020 and his stock with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has fallen even further this season, with the Dutchman playing only five minutes of Premier League football so far.

Everton director of football Marcel Brands has admitted his club made an approach for Van de Beek in the summer.

'We had him on our list,' Brands told Dutch broadcaster NOS. 'At the beginning of the transfer window, we made an enquiry to United, then it was impossible.

Everton tried to sign out-of-favour midfielder Donny van de Beek over the summer. Director of football Marcel Brands revealed Everton wanted to sign the Dutchman on loan

'At the end of the window, I received a call from Guido Albers, his agent, that he might be loaned out after all. But at the last minute it was cancelled. Stopped again.'

Asked if Everton could make another move for Van de Beek in January, Brands added: 'You always depend on whether a club wants to cooperate. And it is early October, so much can still happen with injuries. United are playing on various fronts, it's hard to say now.'

Van de Beek's only start in any competition this season came in the 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham in the Carabao Cup while his difficult period at United hit a new low when he failed to get on the pitch in last week's Champions League game at home to Villarreal, with Fred and Nemanja Matic coming on instead.

The Dutchman could not hide his frustration and threw a piece of chewing gum in frustration towards Solskjaer while his team-mates tried to comfort him.

He was also an unused substitute in Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Everton.

For former Dutch footballer Brands, Van de Beek's situation is tough to take, especially as the midfielder has lost his place in the national side and was left out of the team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers by Louis van Gaal.

'It is of course a pity for Donny. He is a very good player, no doubt about it,' added Brands

'Such a boy wants to play and wants to return to the Dutch national team. But you know that at such a club the pressure is great and the competition is huge.

'When you see what United had sitting on the bench [against Everton at the weekend]: Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba…'

Default Re: [2021-2022] Manchester United ~ Transfer Rumors

Newcastle are 'plotting a transfer raid for FOUR Manchester United players, with Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Eric Bailly all targets' following £305m Saudi takeover

* Newcastle are interested in signing four Manchester United players in January
* They want Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Eric Bailly
* The Magpies will have the funds following their £305million Saudi takeover
* Saudi's Public Investment Fund is led by Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman and the takeover makes Newcastle United one of the world's richest football clubs

Newcastle United are looking to raid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad during the January transfer window.

The Magpies are expected to part ways with a significant amount of cash this winter after they were bought by a Saudi Arabian-backed consortium for £305million.

It is believed the club have identified four Manchester United players to sign after they struggled to cement a regular place in the Red Devils' starting XI.

According to The Mirror, Newcastle are plotting potential moves for Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Eric Bailly.

Van de Beek's Manchester United's experience has been far from what he expected - having managed just five minutes of Premier League game time.

Therefore, the 24-year-old – who was keen on a loan move to Everton – could snap up the opportunity to join Newcastle.

Lingard is another play that could be interested in leaving Old Trafford during the winter transfer window.

Lingard's peak performances for United in the 2017-18 campaign. He scored 13 goals and played a pivotal role in England's run to the World Cup semi-final in Russia.

Lingard could be open to a move after failing to cement a regular place in the squad at United

However, he then experienced two mediocre seasons and was subsequently sent on loan to West Ham. During his time there he scored nine goals and registered five assists in just 16 matches.

Having helped the Hammers qualify for Europe, Lingard was open to rejoining West Ham on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window.

However, he was assured by Solskjaer that he was part of his first-team plans and decided to stay at Old Trafford. Since then he has struggled to feature.

Martial is another player that could walk out the door this winter. The 25-year-old struggled to make an impact last season after falling out of form, scoring just seven goals in 36 games, and has largely featured off the bench this term.

As a result, he has been given the green light to search for a new club. However, should Newcastle go ahead with a move for the forward, they will have to part ways with £40m due to United's hefty price tag.

Meanwhile, Bailly - who was Jose Mourinho's first signing at Old Trafford for £30million in 2016 arriving from Villarreal - has also fallen down the pecking order under the current manager.

Harry Maguire is United's captain and Victor Lindelof had historically been preferred as his partner, leaving Bailly short of opportunities. The arrival of Raphael Varane this summer has also pushed him further out of the picture.

Manchester United 'are prepared to sell Jesse Lingard for just £15MILLION in January if the midfielder refuses to sign a £135,000-a-week extension' amid concerns over first-team action

* Jesse Lingard has entered the final year of his contract at Manchester United
* The 28-year-old wants assurances over first-team football if he is to stay
* He could be targeted by an array of clubs in January if the impasse continues

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard could spark a January transfer tussle with the Red Devils prepared to accept offers in the region of £15million if he doesn't sign a new contract.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his current terms and is looking to force his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side after his electrifying loan spell with West Ham last season.

According to The Sun, Lingard wants assurances over first-team football before signing terms worth around £135,000-a-week and should he decide to leave, United don't want to lose him for nothing.

Jesse Lingard wants assurances over first-team action if he is to stay at Manchester United. Lingard has scored twice in six appearances in all competitions for United so far

West Ham would be obvious suitors for Lingard, where he scored nine goals in 19 games at the London outfit last season.

Leicester have also previously been linked with the England international, while Newcastle are expected to splash the cash in January after their Saudi takeover.

This season, Lingard has made six appearances in all competitions for United and got two goals - notably scoring a dramatic winner away to West Ham.

He also provided an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo's last gasp winner against Villarreal in the Champions League and has featured regularly in Gareth Southgate's England setup - scoring two in the 4-0 win against Andorra in September.

United legend Rio Ferdinand urged Newcastle to sign Lingard in the January window ahead of the anticipated overhaul of their squad at St James' Park.

Lingard flourished when he joined West Ham on loan for the second part of last season. Rio Ferdinand also put United man Lingard, 28, in the frame for a move to Newcastle

Speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: 'I'd be going to try and make like a mad couple of signings, like huge, that I think would be gettable.

'I'd be looking at people like Raheem Sterling. Raheem Sterling's not playing regularly, I'd go ask him the question. I'd go and ask Declan Rice, 'What's going on?'

'Them two would be the first two on my list, and I'd go all out to go and get them. And then I'd be trying to get people like Jesse Lingard, who's in and around the Man United squad.'

'It's unrealistic until you ask the question. I'd be going out there to get answers from these types of players and then you work your way down your list.'

Barcelona and AC Milan are at the front of the queue to sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer next summer with Manchester United star likely to leave having rejected contract offer as he looks to seal spot in World Cup squad

* Jesse Lingard rejected the offer of a new contract at Man United last month
* If he opts to leave in the summer, Barcelona and AC Milan want to sign him
* The 28-year-old England midfielder wants to get into squad for 2022 World Cup
* Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho's arrival hasn't helped his United chances

Barcelona and AC Milan will be at the front of the queue to sign Jesse Lingard if he leaves Manchester United on a free transfer next summer.

Lingard rejected the offer of a new contract from United last month so he could weigh up his options before making a decision on his future.

The 28-year-old England midfielder wanted to see how much playing time he was given by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, having spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham.

Jesse Lingard may wave goodbye to Manchester United next summer when his deal expires. Lingard rejected the offer of a new contract last month so he could weigh up his options

However, Lingard has made just one start this season – against West Ham in the Carabao Cup – and has spent more time on the pitch for his country than he has for his club.

Lingard wants to maximise his chances of being in Gareth Southgate's squad for the World Cup next year after narrowly missing out on the Euros this summer.

It now appears as though he will see out the rest of his contract until June and leave on a free transfer, ending an association with United stretching back more than 20 years.

Solskjaer wants to keep Lingard and United could yet make an improved offer – or even try to sell him in January – but the final decision will lie with the player.

Lingard has found game time restricted given the breadth of United's attacking talents. Barcelona want to bring Lingard to the Nou Camp on a free transfer in the summer

He can open talks with foreign clubs from January 1 and it's understood that Barcelona and Milan have both expressed a strong interest in signing him as a free agent.

Meanwhile, United captain Harry Maguire on Wednesday confirmed that he has not trained since suffering a calf injury last month, meaning Solskjaer will definitely be without his two first-choice centre-backs at Leicester on Saturday.

Raphael Varane has already been ruled out with a groin strain and Maguire said: 'It's getting there but I still haven't trained yet with the squad. It's obviously a frustrating injury for me, but I'm progressing and I will be back on the pitch soon.'

Barcelona are 'keeping tabs on veteran Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic'... with the Catalan giants hoping to complete a deal for under £10m as the Serbian's contract runs down

* Nemanja Matic's current Manchester United contract runs out in June 2023
* The midfielder made a rare start for the Red Devils as they lost 4-2 to Leicester
* Barcelona face losing Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets over the next year
* Roberto's deal expires next summer - while Busquets' ends the following year

Nemanja Matic has reportedly emerged as a surprise target for Barcelona next summer.

The Manchester United midfielder, who made a rare start in the crushing 4-2 defeat to Leicester that saw the Red Devils slip out of the top four, is out of contract in June 2023.

And the Catalan giants are said to be keeping close tabs on the 33-year-old and are believed to be looking to sign the £140,000-a-week man for less than £10million, according to The Sun, with Sergi Roberto's deal up in the summer and Sergio Busquets' contract expiring the year after.

Barca were in talks with Georginio Wijnaldum over the summer after the Dutchman agreed to leave Liverpool - but Paris Saint-Germain ended up being his destination as he revealed that the French club were 'quicker' in making a decision about signing him.

Nemanja Matic has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Barcelona. Matic has struggled for regular game time - with Barca chiefs said to be keeping tabs on him

Matic joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 and was a virtual ever-present in his first season at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho, starting in the 1-0 defeat to his former club in the 2018 FA Cup final.

He continued to start regularly following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival in December 2018.

However, his minutes per game dwindled considerably last term as Scott McTominay, Fred and Paul Pogba all enjoyed more consistent game time than the Serbian - and the situation has remained unpromising this campaign.

Following United's desperately disappointing loss to the Foxes, Matic said: 'We are sorry for them [the supporters].

'They support us, especially away [and] they are top. They deserve much, much better than this.

'We will do our best to make them happy in the future. But we have 14 points – we are still in the title race. We don't want to give up until the end.'

Barcelona, who currently sit ninth in LaLiga, face three straight home games in the space of a week.

Valencia visit the Nou Camp on Sunday evening, before Ronald Koeman's men host Dynamo Kiev in the hope of picking up their first Champions League win of 2021-22 before El Clasico next Sunday.

Barca then travel to in-form Rayo Vallecano on October 27 before rounding off the month three days later against Alaves.

Juventus list Anthony Martial on five-man backup list for priority target Dusan Vlahovic if the Old Lady fail to lure the Serbian away from Fiorentina amid Premier League interest

* Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic is said to be Juventus's priority target
* But the club have drawn up a list of alternatives if they fail to sign the Serbian
* Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial features on their backup list
* The Frenchman has struggled this season, making just seven appearances

Juventus have added Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial to their five-man shortlist of strikers seen as backups for priority target Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports.

The Old Lady view the Serbia international as their number one target but could face a challenge to lure him to the Allianz Stadium with a number of Premier League clubs said to be circling.

A number of Europe's elite have declared an interest in the 21-year-old, including Atletico Madrid and Tottenham, with Arsenal prepared to offer Fiorentina £68million.

Max Allegri has drawn up a backup plan in case his side don't bag the striker, which features Martial, according to Calciomercato via The Mirror.

The Frenchman has endured a miserable start to the season at Old Trafford, making just seven appearances across all competitions, failing to complete the full 90 minutes in a single one.

His solitary goal came in United's draw with Everton that triggered their recent slump.

Martial's wife even publicly called out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his omission of the forward from last week's match day squad, implying the United boss had lied about the 25-year-old suffering from an injury.

Juventus have listed Man United outcast Anthony Martial (centre) has a backup transfer target. The Serie side have drawn up a list of alternatives to priority target Dusan Vlahovic. Max Allegri's side could turn to Martial who has endure a miserable start to the season. Fellow Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette has also been listed in the contingency plan

Now Martial could see Juventus as his escape route to rejuvenate his stalling career.

But Solskjaer insists Martial's future remains at Old Trafford, explaining in August: 'I wouldn't be surprised if other teams targeted Anthony because he is a very good player.

'I have no plans whatsoever for him to play against us. Anthony has come back strong and hungry, with the determination to prove his fitness and his quality.

'Last season was a difficult and disappointing one for him and you can see that little bit of grit between his teeth again.'

Martial is joined by fellow Premier League talisman Alexandre Lacazette who could switch north London for Turin.

Benfica's Darwin Nunez and Serie B side Pisa's Lorenzo Lucca also make the list, as well as Mauro Icardi, who is reportedly being courted by Chelsea.

Sevilla are 'fearful that Man United will trigger £69m release clause for Jules Kounde in January' - which would hijack Chelsea's transfer plans as the Red Devils look to solve their defensive woes

* Sevilla knocked back Chelsea's £42.5million offer for Jules Kounde in summer
* The LaLiga side demanded their £69million asking price for the defender be met
* Spanish outfit fear Man United could swoop in and trigger the release clause

Sevilla fear that Manchester United could be planning a swoop for defender Jules Kounde in January, according to reports in Spain.

The LaLiga club knocked back a £42.5million offer from Chelsea for the Frenchman in the summer, demanding the Blues met their £69m asking price.

But Thomas Tuchel reportedly still holds an interest in the centre-back and Chelsea have shortlisted Kounde alongside Matthijs De Ligt as potential new centre-back options for next year.

Sevilla are now worried they could lose Kounde in the upcoming transfer window but it is Chelsea's Premier League rivals United who are causing the concern.

The Red Devils could swoop in to beat Chelsea to Kounde's signature as they look to solve their own problems in defence, according to AS.

Summer signing Raphael Varane's start to life at Old Trafford has been blighted by injury, while Harry Maguire's struggles have continued.

According to the report, United, who currently sit sixth after four defeats, are monitoring the defender and could meet Sevilla's demands.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be eager to bolster their defensive ranks with Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen set to leave the club at the end of the season when their contracts expire, unless the Blues can tie them down to fresh deals.

But Tuchel has refused to confirm that Chelsea will return for the same players they targeted in summer.

'I think every transfer period you need to evaluate again,' Tuchel said, via the Express.

'You cannot say what we wanted in the summer, we do in the winter. And what we want to do in winter, we want to do the next summer. It is not like this.

'Your opinion changes, players change, you have evolvement in the group, you have an atmosphere that you build, you see who is absolutely reliable and these connections build up and create something special hopefully in the group.'

Thomas Tuchel refused to guarantee that Chelsea will target the same players in January. Losing the Frenchman will come as a massive blow to Sevilla, who have the LaLiga title in sight

Sevilla are dreaming of a LaLiga title charge and to lose Kounde midway through the season would come as a major blow.

The Andalusians have lost just once in the Spanish top flight this season and boast the best defensive record, conceding just seven goals, which leaves them one point adrift of leaders Real Sociedad.

Kounde has been pivotal to their near-immaculate defensive record, marshalling the side to six clean sheets in the 10 matches he has featured so far this term.

Manchester United 'are ready to sell Jesse Lingard for £10m' just months after pricing West Ham out of a bid in the summer 'when they were willing to pay £18m' after his impressive loan spell

* Jesse Lingard is in the final year of his contract at Manchester United
* West Ham were priced out of a permanent move after his loan spell last season
* United are now more willing to sell Lingard which could attract the Hammers

Jesse Lingard could be set to leave Manchester United during the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has struggled for game-time this season after returning from an impressive loan spell at West Ham last season.

United priced the Hammers out of a permanent move in the summer by reportedly demanding £25 million - which was £7m more than the Hammers were willing to pay.

Now the Sun have reported that United are happy to let Lingard go in the winter transfer window for just £10m.

Manchester United are reportedly willing to listen to offers worth £10m for Jesse Lingard. Lingard stayed at United this season despite his impressive loan spell at West Ham. He has yet to start a Premier League game but has scored two goals including one against the Hammers

Lingard reignited his career at the London Stadium last season, after becoming a peripheral figure at Old Trafford beforehand.

He returned to United on the back of a spell in which he scored nine goals in 16 appearances and helped the Hammers achieve European qualification.

Though United were not willing to let Lingard go cheaply in the summer, he has yet to start a single game in the Premier League this season.

So far he has played 63 minutes in five appearances off the bench. Though he has scored twice including a match-winner against West Ham.

One potential factor United have to consider is that the England international is currently in the final year of his contract.

He is currently free to speak to clubs outside the Premier League in January and could leave on a free next summer.

In October, under-fire United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he was hopeful Lingard would sign a new deal.

David Moyes is a big fan of Lingard and was keen to sign him on a permanent transfer. Lingard fears his lack of game-time could affect his chance of making the World Cup

He said: 'Jesse's had a good start to the season. He's come on and scored a few goals for us, that's been very important for us.

"We want to prolong his contract, we see him as an important player. It's up to him, maybe up to me, to give him more playing time because he deserves to.

The England international has been at United for more than two decades, but is known to be concerned at the amount of playing time under Solskjaer ahead of next year's World Cup.

West Ham boss David Moyes has repeatedly spoken about his interest of bringing Lingard to the club on a permanent transfer after his excellent displays at the Hammers last season.
