Bruno Fernandes 'tells Sporting Lisbon he is DESPERATE to join Manchester United' after the deal stalled with current side demanding £68m for him

* Manchester United are hoping to sign Bruno Fernandes this transfer window
* The deal has stalled with Sporting Lisbon demanding £68m for their midfielder
* Fernandes however is very keen on making a move to Old Trafford this month

Bruno Fernandes has told Sporting Lisbon he is 'desperate' to join Manchester United as he looks to seal a move to Old Trafford in January.

Both clubs are at loggerheads over the future of the Portuguese midfielder as they look to agree to terms on a deal.

United still want to sign Fernandes in the January transfer window, but they are refusing to meet Sporting's demands which are in the region of £68million.

Now Sky Sports News have reported there is a willingness from all parties to get a deal across the line and talks are expected to continue between the two clubs this week.

Reports in Lisbon claim the deal is in the balance while Sky Sports have been told to 'expect anything'.

Sporting manager Silas has said that Fernandes deserves to be playing in the Premier League, and the midfielder is making his feelings known to the club's hierarchy.

United are aware that Tottenham would not bid higher than £38.5m for the attacking midfielder last summer. They also believe that overpaying for Fernandes this month could lead to a hike in transfer fees when they pursue other targets in the summer.

The 25-year-old played for Sporting in their Lisbon derby defeat by Benfica on Friday night, indicating that a move to United is still some way off.

Bruno Fernandes is keen to join Manchester United before the January transfer window shuts. Manchester United supporters are desperate for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make some signings

It's understood that Fernandes has not agreed personal terms with United and a lot of the speculation emanating from Portugal is designed to put pressure on the Premier League club.

Supporters are desperate to see a new signing in January with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side a massive 27 points behind leaders Liverpool, United's opponents at Anfield on Sunday.

However, the Old Trafford hierarchy have taken a strong stance with Sporting in the hope that a breakthrough could still be made before the window closes at the end of the month.

It is believed that Manchester United were looking to make a bid where paid £43m up front with £17m in add ons.

However it is thought Sporting aren't happy with the structure of that deal and would want more money up front.

Fernandes is expected to be included in the squad for Sporting's Portuguese League Cup semi-final against Braga on Tuesday.

Sporting Lisbon slap a £60million price tag on Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes… with rivals Manchester City now waiting in the wings for Portuguese star

* Sporting Lisbon have put a 'take it or leave it' £60m tag on Bruno Fernandes
* Manchester United have been frustrated in their pursuit of the midfield ace
* The Red Devils are refusing to pay the asking price for the Portuguese star
* Rivals Man City could swoop in and steal the player from under United's noses

Sporting Lisbon have slapped a 'take it or leave it' £60million price tag on their star midfielder Bruno Fernandes amid interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been frustrated in their pursuit of the Portuguese international and are refusing to pay the asking price as things stand.

It is thought the player is keen on a move to Old Trafford, but his club are said to be standing firm on their valuation, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

Any stalling in negotiations between the two clubs could present itself as an opportunity for rivals Manchester City to swoop in and steal the player from under United's noses, the report claims.

City want to be kept informed about talks between the two sides, it says, and wish to be updated with their latest valuations of the player.

Man United have reportedly put in a £42m bid, with £17m in incentives, although one of the variables included the midfielder winning the Ballon D'or - and was swiftly vetoed, the report adds.

Man United have been told they will not be able to sign Bruno Fernandes for less than £60m. Pep Guardiola could look to steal a march on rivals United for the signature of Fernandes. The Portuguese international played the full 90 minutes as his side lost 2-0 to rivals Benfica

The Portuguese outfit came back saying they would accept no less than £51m with £8.5m coming in add ons. United also proposed the idea of a cash-plus-player deal, but that offer was rejected too.

While negotiations continue for the in-demand star, Fernandes is set to feature for the team in the Portuguese League Cup against Braga on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old also played the full 90 minutes on Friday as Sporting lost 2-0 to their rivals Benfica in the Primeira Liga.

Fernandes is believed to be unhappy with his club at their refusal to let him join United and feels he has shown loyalty and deserves the chance to make the move.

Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon are reportedly set to 'meet in the middle' over a deal for Bruno Fernandes as they could settle on a fee of £46.9million (€55m) plus bonuses.

United are eager to sign the midfielder before the end of this month but Sporting were demanding a fee of £68m.

As reported by Plataforma, United were only willing to pay £42.5m up front but have since returned with an improved offer.

Manchester United 'could sign Bruno Fernandes in £55m deal as they reach breakthrough in talks with Sporting Lisbon' with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add goals to his squad following injury to Marcus Rashford

* Talks between United and Sporting Lisbon for Bruno Fernandes have progressed
* United are hopeful they can get a deal done for the midfielder for around £55m
* Sporting were initially unhappy with the structure of United's initial offer
* United need another attacking threat because of Marcus Rashford's injury woes

Manchester United are hopeful they can get a deal worth £55million completed for Bruno Fernandes by the end of the week.

Talks between United and Sporting Lisbon hit an impasse over the weekend after the Portuguese giants were unhappy with the structuring of the deal.

The two clubs have been at loggerheads over the fee, with Sporting demanding a minimum of £55.3million and as much as £68m, while United want to spend no more than £42m for the Portugal international.

Manchester United are hopeful they can get a deal worth £55m done for Bruno Fernandes. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for more attacking options following Marcus Rashford's injury

Too much of United's initial offer was based on add-ons that Sporting deemed unlikely to occur and therefore there was very little progression in negotiations over the 25-year-old midfielder.

However, according to The Mirror, there has been progress in talks and United are now ready to make a second bid of just below £47m, which could rise to £55m with add-ons.

It is claimed Sporting were willing to wait for £60m but reports suggest the two teams have come to a compromise.

Marcus Rashford's injury has also changed United's stance with Fernandes' ability to score goals from midfield important as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for more attacking options.

Earlier on Tuesday Sporting Lisbon's assistant coach Emanuel Ferro claimed Fernandes will still be playing for them next month.

'There is a lot of talk about him leaving,' he told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

'I believe that outside people feel this more than us. We don't feel it. We don't feel Bruno's thinking about leaving. He is competitive and involved.'

It is anticipated that he will feature in the Taca da Liga clash against Braga on Tuesday too.

Manchester United could finally seal a deal for Bruno Fernandes TODAY after 'making an improved £55m offer' for Sporting Lisbon star

* Manchester United have reportedly increased their offer for Bruno Fernandes
* The Red Devils are set to pay nearly £47m up-front, with £8.5m in add-ons
* Sporting Lisbon could meet United in the middle and finalise a deal later today
* Fernandes stormed down the tunnel after his side's defeat by Braga on Tuesday

Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing a big-money deal to finally sign long-term target Bruno Fernandes, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing the attacking midfielder since last summer, but Sporting Lisbon have so far played hardball over the fee for their star man.

However, a new report claims that United have now made a breakthrough in their negotiations after tabling a new offer worth just over £55million.

A Bola claim that the Red Devils will pay close to £47m up front for Fernandes, with an extra £8.5m in potential add-ons depending on his success at Old Trafford.

Sporting had hoped to secure a deal worth £60m for the Portugal international but now appear willing to meet United in the middle this month.

Fernandes seemingly snubbed the chance to say goodbye to Sporting fans ahead of his move as he angrily stormed down the tunnel and pushed a TV camera on Tuesday night.

The midfielder was left furious after Sporting's 2-1 defeat by Braga in the semi-finals of the Taca da Liga - the Portuguese League Cup - in what could prove to be his final game for the club.

Manchester United could finally agree terms on a deal for Bruno Fernandes on Wednesday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing Fernandes since last summer and a deal is now close

Fernandes provided an assist for his side's only goal of the game but a late Braga winner prompted an angry reaction from the 25-year-old.

Fernandes chose not to wave or acknowledge the away fans as he made his way off the pitch at the full-time whistle.

As he tried to make his way down the tunnel, a TV cameraman then attempted to get a shot of him but Fernandes pushed the camera down to the ground in disgust.

Fernandes was also involved in a discussion with a police officer as the match descended into chaos in the final few minutes.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this month that Fernandes' agents had been in London for talks with United chief Ed Woodward over a move to Old Trafford.

The Premier League giants have remained in discussions for the last two weeks and a deal now finally appears to be close.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes puts Bruno Fernandes' Manchester United move in doubt as he admits he 'doesn't know' if £55m deal will get done this month... and reveals Sporting HAVE spoken to other clubs

* Bruno Fernandes' move to Manchester United is in doubt, says Jorge Mendes
* The agent admits that he 'does not know' if the Sporting Lisbon captain will move
* United have been locked in negotiations but are still yet to reach an agreement

Jorge Mendes has put Bruno Fernandes' prospective £55million move to Manchester United into serious doubt after admitting he 'doesn't know' if he will leave Sporting Lisbon this month.

United have been locked in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon all month but are yet to reach an agreement on a fee for Fernandes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing the attacking midfielder since last summer, and hoped to conclude a deal this month, but his agent Mendes has now thrown that into serious doubt.

Jorge Mendes placed serious doubt over Bruno Fernandes' prospective move to Man United. The Sporting Lisbon captain has been chased by United all month but no deal has been agreed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing Fernandes since last summer and is eyeing a deal now

When asked if he expected a deal to be completed for the 25-year-old, the super agent said: 'I don't know. If he doesn't leave now, he will leave for sure in the summer because Sporting have already spoken with other clubs.

'Something will happen but I am not sure if now or at the end of the season.'

Portuguese media have followed the potential transfer of Fernandes closely and a report in A Bola on Wednesday suggested that United had made a breakthrough in their pursuit of the 25-year-old midfielder.

It was believed an offer of around £55million had taken the deal forward with the report adding that United will pay close to £47m up front for Fernandes, with an extra £8.5m in potential add-ons depending on his success at Old Trafford.

But Mendes' comments have since soured the optimism that Fernandes is closing in on a switch to the Premier League this month.

Fernandes provided an assist for his side's only goal of the game but a late Braga winner prompted an angry reaction from the 25-year-old.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this month that Fernandes' agents had been in London for talks with United chief Ed Woodward over a move to Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford's injury has also changed United's stance on transfers this month with Fernandes' ability to score goals from midfield important as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for more attacking options.

The Portugal international has scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists in 26 appearances for Sporting this season across all competitions.

Fernandes has won plenty of plaudits this season and former Sporting Lisbon boss Carlos Carvalhal described him this week as a 'player from another planet'.

Saying he was the best player in the country by miles, Carvalhal, who currently manages Rio Ave in Portugal, said United would be getting a similar sort of player to Frank Lampard if they pulled the deal off.

The 54-year-old told TalkSport: 'He is a player from another planet, the planet of Portugal is very small to him in this moment, he's an extraordinary player.

'Bruno is the best player in the league, he's miles ahead of the others.

'He is a complete player, and if you ask me to compare Bruno with a player, I will say Frank Lampard.'

Manchester United's move for Bruno Fernandes is OFF as they 'refuse to meet Sporting Lisbon's £68m asking price' for Portugal midfielder

* Manchester United's move for Bruno Fernandes has reportedly been called off
* The Red Devils have been locked in talks with Sporting Lisbon in recent weeks
* It's been claimed that co-chairman Joel Glazer has walked away from the deal
* Sporting want up to £68m for Fernandes, with more of the fee paid up-front
* Super agent Jorge Mendes admitted the deal may not happen on Wednesday

Manchester United's move for Bruno Fernandes is reportedly off after they refused to meet Sporting Lisbon's £68million asking price.

United believe the demands are 'unreasonable' and have elected to break off from negotiations, according to The Sun.

United had been confident of completing a £55m deal for the Portugal midfielder earlier this week.

Talks between the two clubs hit an impasse over the weekend, with the Portuguese giants unhappy with the structuring of the deal.

The two clubs have been at loggerheads over the fee, with Sporting holding out for as much as £68m. United are said to have offered £42.5m up-front, with a further £8.5m in add-ons.

Sporting were not satisfied with the add-ons and wanted more of the fee in advance, believing that the 25-year-old midfielder, who stormed off the pitch and pushed a camera after Tuesday night's defeat by Braga, would be unlikely to meet the clauses in the deal.

The Sun claim that co-chairman Joel Glazer has now decided to walk away from the deal as he does not think Fernandes is worth what Sporting are demanding.

Manchester United's move for Bruno Fernandes is off after they refused to pay £68million. The news will come as a blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who wants to strengthen his squad. United had been hopeful of getting a deal worth £55m done for the Portugal international

The Portugal international has scored 15 goals and provided 14 assists in 27 appearances for Sporting this season across all competitions.

Super agent Jorge Mendes threw Fernandes' prospective move to Old Trafford into serious doubt on Wednesday after admitting he 'doesn't know' if he will leave the Portuguese giants this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing the attacking midfielder since last summer, but Mendes was not convinced it would get done during the winter window.

When asked if he expected a deal to be completed for the 25-year-old, he said: 'I don't know. If he doesn't leave now, he will leave for sure in the summer because Sporting have already spoken with other clubs.

'Something will happen but I am not sure if now or at the end of the season.'

Portuguese media have followed the potential transfer of Fernandes closely and a report in A Bola on Wednesday suggested that United had made a breakthrough in their pursuit of the midfielder.

It was believed an offer of around £55m had taken the deal forward, but that now no longer seems to be the case as Sporting look to get top dollar for their star man.

When asked about the transfer window, Solskjaer admitted plans to improve the team and add fresh faces are still in place.

'We're looking to strengthen and we know we have to,' he said after Wednesday night's 2-0 home defeat by Burnley.

'We let some players go because we needed to start afresh. We know we need quality and numbers.

'I think everyone can see that these players are being stretched. They are stretched and I have got absolutely no complaints on any of them because they give absolutely everything they've got.'

Default Re: Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United's problems in landing Bruno Fernandes began in the SUMMER when they were told he'd be available for just £42m... now the two clubs aren't even speaking: How the biggest transfer saga of the winter window has unfolded

* Some believe the Red Devils have already switched their attention elsewhere
* But the reality is that Sporting Lisbon are still negotiating a possible transfer
* Bruno Fernandes' agent said the Sporting man would be available for £42million
* Sporting president Frederico Varandas presented figures totally different

Less than a week to go until the winter transfer window shuts and there is still no clarity over Bruno Fernandes' future.

Some say that the Red Devils have already switched their attention elsewhere, but the reality is that his club, Sporting Lisbon, are still negotiating a possible transfer of the Portuguese international to Old Trafford.

This is already a long soap opera, which started in 2019. So why hasn't there been an agreement yet? Especially because both Manchester United and Sporting have not spoken directly since the beginning of this novel.

It all started when United wanted to know about the possibility of buying Bruno Fernandes in 2019. To do so, they contacted their representatives, who revealed to the Red Devils that for €50m (£42m) the deal could be closed.

Sporting, according to Fernandes' entourage, were under pressure to sell, as they urgently needed money, so the €50m, plus some bonuses, would be enough.

United welcomed this information. A top player for a reasonable price. However, everything changed on January 10, when Manchester United and Sporting finally joined the same table, in London, at Ed Woodward's office.

At that meeting, Sporting president Frederico Varandas presented figures totally different from those that Fernandes' representatives spoke to Manchester United. The Portuguese club started demanding €75m (£63m): 60, plus 15 in bonuses and bonuses that had to be easy to achieve.

United did not like the approach - they felt cheated, as the values were much higher. The quality of Bruno Fernandes was not an issue, but United officials did not want to feel deceived.

There is still no clarity over Bruno Fernandes' future with a week left of the transfer window. The Sporting Lisbon midfielder is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's main target this month. Everything changed on January 10, when the two clubs met at Ed Woodward's office in London. The well-known agent Jorge Mendes spoke to Manchester United to increase their offer

Fernandes, however, was and is a wish of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, so United agreed to remain at the negotiating table but, at least so far, they have always been peremptory in the fixed value: 50 million.

They were willing to give bonuses, a total of 10 million, but they were too complicated to achieve.

Sporting said no. And why did they say no, since they need money urgently? Simply because they used FIFA agent Jorge Mendes.

The well-known businessman spoke to United and tried to encourage the Red Devils to increase their offer, but saw that there was intransigence to the deal like Sporting wanted.

Mendes, however, insisted on reassuring Sporting, who really need the money. The FIFA agent assured the club of Alvalade that in June, Fernandes' proposals will be higher, like in August 2019, when Bruno Fernandes' transfer to Tottenham fell through.

In short, five days before the end of the transfer window, the departure of the 25-year-old midfielder to United is still not a reality due to the 'pride' of the Red Devils and because Sporting were guaranteed to sell the Portuguese international for a value close to that they really always wanted, €70m, in June.

This, however, does not mean that the transfer has fallen through. The reality is that both Sporting and Manchester United are still negotiating. The relationship has been shaken, that is a fact, but the deal it is on the table. It remains to be seen who or if someone will give in during these next six days.

* But he could not agree deal with United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward

Manchester United have not yet met Sporting Lisbon's asking price captain Bruno Fernandes, with talks reportedly ongoing between the two clubs.

According to Sky Sports the clubs were as much as £10million apart in their valuations of the midfielder last week, with United only willing to pay £42m after initially agreeing on a £55m deal.

But United are expected to continue their pursuit of the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes on January 31 and will make an improved £46m offer on Monday.

Manchester United have not yet met Sporting Lisbon's asking price captain Bruno Fernandes

Last week the player's agent Jorge Mendes flew to Manchester with Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, and director of football, Hugo Viana, in hope of brokering a deal with United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

But negotiations stalled after Woodward declared United had changed their stance and Mendes says the Red Devils must act quickly if they are to sign the Portuguese before the deadline.

It is understood Fernandes would like to join the Red Devils this month but he continues to feature in Sporting's first team and has played in each of the club's four matches in 2020.
