Leicester City provide five players named on 10-man shortlist for Premier League Player of the Season award

* Premier League champions Leicester account for half of the nominees
* Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, N'Golo Kante, Kasper Schmeichel and captain Wes Morgan are all up for the award
* PFA Player of the Year Mahrez and Football Writers' Footballer of the Year Vardy could yet secure double glory
* Dimitri Payet and Mesut Ozil of Arsenal are also up for the award
* Spurs trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld complete the list

Surprise Premier League champions Leicester City could be set for more success with five of their players nominated for the Barclays Premier League Player of the Season award.

Claudio Ranieri's Foxes account for half of the 10-man shortlist with Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, N'Golo Kante, Kasper Schmeichel and captain Wes Morgan all in the running to take home the coveted award.

It means PFA Player of the Year Mahrez and Football Writers' Footballer of the Year Vardy could yet secure double glory and complete a memorable season for the King Power outfit.



Premier League champions Leicester City dominate the Premier League Player of the Season award shortlist

All five Foxes players nominated were key men as they came from nowhere to be crowned champions in what was one of football's biggest ever shocks.

Mahrez, Vardy and Kante have all received plenty of plaudits already but recognition for inspirational leader Morgan and stopper Schmeichel is just reward for their contributions this season.

Leicester's five players are joined on the shortlist by West Ham's Dimitri Payet, Mesut Ozil of Arsenal and Tottenham trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and defender Toby Alderweireld.

Payet has been the star man for the Hammers in their unlikely quest for European football while Ozil has impressed for Arsenal, particularly in the first half of the season.

Tottenham may have missed out on the title but they've still had a campaign to remember.

Top scorer Kane, PFA Young Player of the Year Alli and Alderweireld have all been key men under Mauricio Pochettino this season.

The winner of the award, first chosen in 1995 and picked by a panel of administrators, supporters and members of the media, will be announced on Friday.
