Re: Euro 2016
Code:

Re: Euro 2016
Euro 2016 matches 'could be played behind closed doors... we can't exclude terrorism', says UEFA chief following Brussels attacks
* UEFA have not ruled out possibility of playing Euro 2016 ties without fans * Football chiefs are unable to rule out a terrorist attack during tournament * Executive committee vice-president Giancarlo Abete spoke to French radio * He said 'we cannot exclude terrorism' in the wake of Brussels terror attacks * UEFA have also released a statement regarding the ongoing safety plans European Championship matches could be played behind closed doors this summer with football chiefs unable to rule out a terrorist attack in France. Euro 2016 organisers were already on alert following the atrocities in Paris last November but the Brussels terror attacks on Tuesday have raised further doubts over safety at the tournament. But with the tournament edging closer, UEFA executive committee vice-president Giancarlo Abete has admitted the best option could be to play the matches behind closed doors. Speaking to a French radio station Radio 24, Abete said: 'Euro 2016 is the kind of event we can't delay or postpone. 'We can't exclude the possibility of playing behind closed doors as we cannot exclude terrorism.' UEFA have also commented on the ongoing safety plans by insisting they are working with the relevant authorities to ensure a secure tournament, which begins June 10 at Stade de France. Euro 2016 games could be played behind closed doors with tournament beginning June 10 at Stade de France The Stade de France was one of the venues targeted by terrorists in the Paris atrocities in November last year. In a statement released on Thursday night, UEFA said: 'We will continue their joint work and will regularly monitor the level of risk for the tournament and their respective organisational plans. 'For over three years now, EURO 2016 SAS has been working closely with the relevant authorities to develop the most appropriate mechanisms in order to guarantee a safe and secure tournament and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that is the case for all involved.' UEFA executive committee vice-president Giancarlo Abete has admitted they can't rule out a terrorist attack Passengers are evacuated from Zaventem Airport in Brussels following two fatal blasts on Tuesday morning With the European Championship just over two months away, France's interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve was keen to stress adequate security measures have been put in place. 'The events in Brussels remind us of the very high level of security which is necessary to ensure Euro 2016 is successful,' said Cazeneuve, who at a press conference said the government would contribute £1.5million for CCTV projects to cover fan zones during the tournament. 'Euro 2016 must combine sportsmanship, festivity and security for the teams, coaches and fan. It is 80 days to the start of Euro 2016 and the organisers, cities and state services are fully mobilised. 'Euro 2016 should be a celebration but collective security is an obligation for everyone alongside the government.' Code:

Re: Euro 2016
Euro 2016 Panini stickers offer older collectors the nostalgia of tournaments past - even if it might get you some strange looks
* Football sticker collecting used to be only for children * But there has been a sharp increase in older supporters swapping stickers * Fans are using sticker collections to remind them of their childhoods * As an adult you can afford a complete collection - and you might even be able to stick them in properly You never forget your first tournament. For young children all over Europe, this summer will be a footballing awakening. The World Cup or European Championship that you remember as your first always comes with a tinge of nostalgia, and often kick-starts a love of the game that will last a lifetime. Big tournaments can inspire a kid to become a fan through sheer pageantry - the big names, that bit of commentary that sticks in your mind, England's inevitable exit, and the fun you had collecting football stickers. In the run-up to Euro 2016, fans of all ages are turning back to that childhood hobby of swapping stickers As an adult collector not only can you afford the stickers, you might also be able to stick them accurately Older collectors are harking back to the days when they first bought football stickers as a child Because, for kids, one of the great ways of following a tournament is through sticker collecting; saving up pocket money to buy packets, swapping with your friends in the classroom and the playground, hoping for that last shiny you didn't have. Now, though, those children have been joined by a new breed of collectors - the retro football hipsters. Take a look through the Twitter account for Panini stickers, or check the swapping hashtag, #gotgotneed - along with a few pictures of young children posted by proud parents, you find mostly older collectors enjoying some 'old-school fun'. Retro has been fashionable for years, and it was only a matter of time before football stickers became another example. The nostalgia for fans whose first album came anywhere from Euro 88 to World Cup 98, who remember swapping the stickers of Italia 90 like it was yesterday, is hard to resist. As a child you probably never had the money to actually complete an album - as an adult it's a relatively cheap way to get several weeks of entertainment. And you can probably even stick them in accurately now. Veterans like Gianluigi Buffon have appeared in enough tournament albums to create their own mini-collection For collectors of any age it provides genuine excitement in the long build-up towards a tournament, while also offering a chance to get to know the squads you might otherwise have been ignorant of - it's much easier to remember that Ukraine's Taras Stepanenko is a holding midfielder for Shakhtar if you've got seven of his sticker. Then there are the old favourites - how many Gianluigi Buffon stickers do you own? There will be those who had a Euro 2000 Buffon as a child and have now got a Euro 2016 version as an adult, such is the Italian's longevity. The playground swaps may be a thing of the past for the older generation, but workplaces provide a suitable alternative. Six of my colleagues have already purchased their albums, and I expect more to follow. If not, there are online forums, and even an official app on which you can scan in your purchases to keep track of your collection - gone are the days of needing to buy hundreds of packets just to find that last elusive sticker. This sort of self-indulgent nostalgia isn't for everyone, and there are those who will sneer. But it is a reminder of childhood, when summer meant listening for the ice cream van, playing football in the park and watching England go out on penalties. On a trip to a high street shop this weekend my inquiry about stickers was not met with surprise - 'what is this 24-year-old doing buying stickers?' - or a polite question about how old my child was. Instead, the assistant gave me the look that said 'you're the tenth man today I've sold an album too, and yes, you are too old'. How wrong he was. Code:
