Manchester United 'could appoint a new permanent manager before the end of the season' with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag the frontrunners... while Brendan Rodgers 'is still under consideration' at Old Trafford

* Manchester United are still on the hunt for their next permanent manager
* Ralf Rangnick has been in interim charge since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking
* Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are reportedly United's top two targets
* But Leicester's Brendan Rodgers also remains a contender to replace Solskjaer

Manchester United could appoint a new permanent manager before the end of the season with the club still on the hunt for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor, according to reports.

United dismissed Solskjaer back in November amidst a dreadful run of one win in seven matches, with Ralf Rangnick taking temporary charge of the side until the end of the season.

Once a new full-time boss is found, Rangnick will move into a consultancy role at Old Trafford alongside director John Murtough and Richard Arnold, who is set to replace Ed Woodward as executive vice-chairman when he departs next month.

According to Manchester Evening News, United are looking to nail down their next manager well in advance of the summer transfer window's opening date of July 1.

The club are understood to believe 'the sooner the better' with hiring a new coach after witnessing Tottenham's long-winded attempt to replace Jose Mourinho last year.

PSG's Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax's Erik ten Hag remain the frontrunners to take the Old Trafford reins, while Leicester's Brendan Rodgers is also still under consideration after being sounded out towards the end of Solskjaer's tenure.

Man United could appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's replacement before the end of the season. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are the frontrunners to land the permanent United job

United are determined to avoid a repeat of the delay they suffered when appointing David Moyes back in 2013. Moyes was confirmed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor on May 9 but the club decided against paying Everton compensation to release him from his contract earlier than its June 30 expiry date.

As a result, the Scot, who was sacked the following April, officially started work at United on July 1 and has since admitted he regrets not arriving sooner.

Pochettino is reportedly still keen on joining the Red Devils and was even prepared to make the move mid-season before Rangnick took temporary charge.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is also in consideration for the Old Trafford hot-seat

United were contemplating releasing the Argentine from his PSG contract, which runs until 2023, only for the French club to 'play hardball' in negotiations.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, has admirers at Old Trafford after ending Ajax's five-year wait for a Dutch title in 2019 and guiding them to the Champions League semi-finals that season.

United and Ajax also have a positive relationship after doing business successfully for the transfer of Donny van de Beek back in 2020.

Mauricio Pochettino, Eric ten Hag, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui: The four managers Manchester United 'are lining up as their potential next boss' as search for new head coach steps up

* Manchester United are currently under the interim charge of Ralf Rangnick
* But the Old Trafford club are reportedly poised to step up search for a new boss
* They will consider candidates with experience of managing top European clubs
* PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax's Erik ten Hag are names in the frame
* Spanish duo Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui are other potential candidates

Manchester United 'are set to step up their search for a new manager with four prominent names among those under consideration'.

Ralf Rangnick is currently in interim charge at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November but will be moving upstairs into a consultancy role at the end of the season.

This means the search is on for a new boss and The Athletic report that Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui will all be considered for the job.

United will look to tick several boxes with their new appointment but one factor will be candidates who have experience of working at major European clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino (left) and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag (right) are reportedly among the potential top candidates for the Manchester United job

Luis Enrique, the current Spain national team boss, has been reported as a candidate too

The Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui is another name in the frame for the Old Trafford job

All four names mentioned have such experience, with Pochettino presently manager of Paris Saint-Germain having formerly managed Tottenham to a Champions League final.

Ten Hag has won two league and cup doubles with Ajax while Luis Enrique won the Champions League and various domestic honours with Barcelona before taking on the Spain job.

Lopetegui has the likes of Porto, Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla on his CV. All four are currently in a managerial post and Pochettino is the only one with Premier League experience.

The United job will be more appealing if they achieve a top four finish in the Premier League and qualify for next season's Champions League.

Rangnick's side leapfrogged West Ham and moved into fourth spot thanks to Marcus Rashford's stoppage time winner to sink the Hammers on Saturday.

They are also competing for silverware in the FA Cup and the Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid in the last-16 next month.

Roberto Mancini 'could be an option to take over as Man United boss in the summer' with the Italy manager - who led bitter rivals Man City to their first Premier League title - 'tempted' by a return to English football

* Roberto Mancini could reportedly be an option as Manchester United manager
* Mancini is currently manager of Italy with the World Cup scheduled for this year
* But he's 'tempted' by a return to English football, according to Fabrizio Romano
* United are also interested in hiring Mauricio Pochettino or Ajax's Erik ten Hag

Italy boss Roberto Mancini 'could be an option' to take over as Manchester United manager in the summer and is 'tempted' by a return to the Premier League.

The Old Trafford hierarchy are currently searching for a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with interim boss Ralf Rangnick in charge until the end of the season before he takes on a consultancy role.

But Mancini, the man who delivered Manchester City's first Premier League title, is also now in the frame for the post, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian told Rio Ferdinand on the former United defender's FIVE YouTube channel: 'Let's see what happens with Roberto Mancini.

'Mancini will be busy with Italy to see what happens with the World Cup with qualifying in March, but that could be an option.

'He is tempted by the Premier League, he wants to come back to the Premier League one day.'

Ferdinand, who made over 450 appearances for United, was quick to dismiss any chance of Mancini getting the job by replying 'no chance'.

Italy boss Roberto Mancini 'could be an option' to take over as Manchester United manager. Old Trafford chiefs are currently searching for a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Mancini led his native Italy to Euro 2020 glory over England in last summer's final at Wembley

But transfer expert Romano played up the prospect again by insisting 'he could be an option' for United.

Mancini, who led Italy to Euro 2020 glory over England in last summer's final, has his hands full with his current role at present.

Despite being the reigning European champions, the Azzurri face an uphill task to qualify for this year's World Cup in Qatar.

They must win two play-off ties in March to book their spot in the tournament but will first have to beat North Macedonia and then will face either Portugal or Turkey in the final.

Mancini delivered the Premier League title for Manchester City back in the 2011-12 campaign

It would be surprising for Mancini to leave his role as Italy manager if they do qualify for the World Cup.

Mancini has plenty of experience managing in the Premier League, having worked across Manchester at the Etihad Stadium for four years.

During his time there he won 113 of his 191 matches in charge and delivered the Premier League title in 2011-12 thanks to Sergio Aguero's last-gasp winner against QPR that, incidentally, denied Sir Alex Ferguson and United.

He also won the 2010-11 FA Cup and led Inter Milan to three successive Serie A titles from 2005 to 2008.

Man United players want Mauricio Pochettino to take over at Old Trafford as the club's new manager this summer... with the ex-Tottenham boss preferred to Ajax's Erik ten Hag - who interim boss Ralf Rangnick is keen on

* Manchester United are looking to appoint a permanent manager this summer
* Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are the leading candidates for the role
* Sportsmail understands that United's players would prefer Pochettino
* Ajax manager Ten Hag has admirers at Old Trafford including Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United’s players are in favour of Mauricio Pochettino taking over as manager at the end of the season.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is Pochettino’s main rival for the job when interim manager Ralf Rangnick steps down and moves into a consultancy role in May.

However, the majority of the United squad would prefer Pochettino, who has expressed a willingness to quit Paris Saint-Germain and return to English football at Old Trafford.

He led Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final after a memorable win over Ten Hag’s Ajax in the last four.

United put out feelers to see if Pochettino would be available after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, but were told that PSG’s Qatari owners were unwilling to release him from his contract in mid-season.

The club installed Michael Carrick as caretaker manager for three games, then Rangnick as interim for the rest of the season, to allow more time to make the right appointment come the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino is favoured by Manchester United players to take over as manager

Pochettino’s future at Parc des Princes is uncertain even though his team are on course to reclaim the French title from Lille.

The 49-year-old is under pressure to deliver success in the Champions League after losing to Manchester City in last season’s semi-final and he faces Real Madrid in the last 16, with the first leg in Paris on Tuesday.

Ajax play Benfica later this month and Ten Hag, 52, has many admirers at Old Trafford for the work he has done with a young squad at the Dutch club.

Rangnick is one of those admirers but it remains to be seen how much influence the German has at United once he begins a two-year consultancy.

United are now expected to step up their search for a permanent boss after new chief executive Richard Arnold replaced Ed Woodward at the start of the month.

They are keen to make a decision before the end of the season and have the new man in place as soon as possible after that, so he can play a part in new signings and contract renewals among the current squad.

United are expected to confirm the sale of midfielder Andreas Pereira to Flamengo by the end of the week for £8.8million, with a 25 per cent sell-on clause.

'Carlo Ancelotti is NOT the type of manager Man United need': Danny Murphy warns new Old Trafford regime they need to appoint a 'more stable and long-term' manager... but still says Antonio Conte is 'the one'

* Manchester United are searching for the man to replace Ralf Rangnick in June
* Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino have been touted as possible options
* Reports have also suggested that Carlo Ancelotti is in the running for the job
* However, Danny Murphy believes United should steer clear of the Italian
* Murphy insists United need to appoint a 'more stable and long-term' manager

Danny Muphy believes Manchester United should not appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their next manager because they someone 'more stable' than the Italian – and claims the club 'missed the boat' with hiring Antonio Conte.

United are eager to make a long-term appointment in the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax's Erik ten Hag among their preferred candidates..

However, reports earlier this week claimed that Real Madrid boss Ancelotti has emerged as a shock candidate to take over from Ralf Rangnick in the summer, with the Italian said to be Sir Alex Ferguson's choice for the Old Trafford job.

Ancelotti has a close relationship with legendary and his stellar CV could see him make a return to the Premier League a year after he departed Everton for the Bernabeu.

Danny Muphy believes Manchester United should not appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their next manager as they need someone 'more stable'. Murphy insists United need to appoint a 'more stable and long-term' manager than the Italian

However, while Ancelotti's record stands up at the club like United, Murphy isn't convinced and believes the Red Devils need to build a foundation at the club with a long-term manager.

When asked whether Ancelotti, 62, would be a good fit for United, Murphy told talkSPORT: ‘I don’t think so. Look, I’ve got the utmost respect for him for all he has achieved over the years, he’s supposed to be a terrific fella too.

‘He’s not stayed at any job for longer than two seasons, apart from AC Milan, the club he loved. He stayed there for eight years, but that was a long time ago.

‘He was at Chelsea for a couple of seasons, PSG a couple, Real Madrid a couple, Munich a year, Everton less than a year and now he’s back at Madrid.

‘I think Manchester United have to look at something more stable, more long-term.

‘I also think his managerial style is one where he’s gone into many clubs that have already got success, got superstars at the top of their game and he’s just keeping that going.

‘I remember speaking to a few people at Chelsea who spoke very highly of him, but they said his management style was to let the players look after themselves.

‘This United team needs more than that at the moment.’

Murphy then suggested that United should've snapped up Conte when he was out of work earlier in the season, which saw Tottenham beat them to the punch after Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked as boss following a 3-0 defeat by United.

Murphy also claimed United 'missed the boat' with hiring now-Tottenham boss Antonio Conte

And the former Spurs midfielder insists Conte was the 'type they need' – even despite the Italian's reputation for not hanging around at clubs for too long.

Murphy added: 'Look there's been a lot of question marks over Antonio Conte at Tottenham for various reasons – that's another conversation.

'But that was the type [of manager] they need. That was the one. They missed the boat.'

Ajax boss Ten Hag is now one of the favourites to take over at Old Trafford after it was discovered that he has taken English lessons ahead of talks with United.

Sportsmail has learned that Ten Hag is studying English in a bid to ensure he has a fluent grasp of the language ahead of a possible move to the Premier League this summer.

Ajax are understood to be aware of Ten Hag's intention to leave the club at the end of the season following recent internal talks.

The Dutchman is said to have his heart set on a move to United at the end of the season - but the fact he is committed to fluently learning English will leave him in good stead if any other jobs come up.

Last summer Ten Hag was a contender to become new Tottenham head coach, however well-placed sources claim that the language barrier was an issue during talks.

United look to certain to at the very least discuss the role with Ten Hag in the coming weeks and the fact he is brushing up on his English will aid his hopes of securing the job.

Erik ten Hag 'is ready to become Manchester United manager after growing frustrated at Ajax... and he's even prepared to give Ralf Rangnick a role in his coaching set-up' after the German steps down this summer

* Erik ten Hag is prepared to become the new manager of Manchester United
* If he takes charge ten Hag could give Ralf Rangnick a coaching role at the club
* Rangnick is due to become a consultant after his time as United's interim boss

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly prepared to become Manchester United's new permanent manager this summer.

As reported by The Mirror, ten Hag has grown frustrated with the situation at Ajax and is now considering leaving the club.

The report states that if ten Hag did become United manager then he would be open to giving current interim boss Ralf Rangnick a role as part of his coaching team.

Following this season Rangnick is set to take on a consultancy position at United for the next two years but ten Hag could give the 63-year-old a more active role in the dugout.

Ten Hag is seen as one of the leading candidates to become United's next manager, with Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino having also been heavily linked with the job.

The Dutchman has been in charge of Ajax since 2017 but he is considering leaving for a fresh challenge as he is annoyed at having to constantly rebuild his team.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly prepared to become Manchester United's new manager. If he took charge ten Hag could offer Ralf Rangnick a position among the United coaching staff. Ten Hag believes Ajax cannot have repeated Champions League success with selling policy

Ajax's policy of often selling their best players for significant fees has made it difficult for ten Hag to get the best out of his team.

The likes of Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, Hakim Ziyech and Donny van de Beek have all left the club for significant fees in recent years.

He said: 'The lifespan of our team has always been short in recent years. I understood - and still understand - the sale of players.

'But you can hardly cope with such bloodletting if you want to continue to play a significant role in the Champions League.

'You need giant players for that - and Ajax can not buy that calibre of players.'

During his time at Ajax ten Hag has won the Eredivisie twice while he has also won the KNVB Cup on two occasions.

Marc Overmars departure as Ajax's director of football for sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues has led to ten Hag considering his own future.

Prior to managing Ajax, ten Hag had spells in charge of Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II and Utrecht.

Taking charge of United would be a considerable task for ten Hag given the club's inconsistency in recent seasons, but it would represent an excellent opportunity for him to showcase his coaching credentials.

Erik ten Hag 'the favourite to become Manchester United's next manager' after 'exhaustive background checks' put him in the frame ahead of Mauricio Pochettino... while Thomas Tuchel is ruled out of contention

* But ten Hag has come out 'on top' after 'dossiers' were compiled on candidates
* United have ruled out Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea's takeover talks rumble on

Erik ten Hag has reportedly become the favourite to be Manchester United's next manager following 'exhaustive background checks'.

The Ajax boss has been viewed as a leading candidate ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking in November, but has been in a neck-and-neck race with PSG's Mauricio Pochettino.

Current Premier League bosses Brendan Rodgers and Ralph Hasenhuttl have also been mentioned to a lesser degree, while Thomas Tuchel emerged as a shock contender after uncertainty arose around Chelsea's future.

According to The Sun, Manchester United have compiled a 'set of dossiers' on all candidates for the role and it is ten Hag who has come out 'well on top'.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly the favourite to be the next Manchester United manager. Ten Hag has moved ahead of Mauricio Pochettino after 'dossiers' were compiled on candidates. United have ruled Thomas Tuchel out of contention as Chelsea's takeover talks rumble on

Old Trafford chiefs reportedly believe that the Dutchman has the potential to return the club to their former glories and stay at the helm 'for at least the next five years'.

The report adds that Tuchel has been ruled out as the Red Devils believe a potential Chelsea takeover could keep the German at Stamford Bridge and that situation could drag on into the summer.

United are keen to confirm their new boss as soon as possible to give the incoming man as much time as possible to prepare for next season.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been involved in the filtering of candidates as he is set to take on a consultancy role at the club in the summer.

Ten Hag's contract at Ajax runs until 2023, so a compensation fee will need to be agreed should United make their move.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag had his interview for the Manchester United job on Monday, with Old Trafford club also keen to speak to Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique

* Ajax's Erik ten Hag is the favourite to become the next Manchester United boss
* Current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has now dropped out of the running
* United chiefs are hoping to make a final call on Ralf Rangnick's successor in April
* Ajax boss Ten Hag has previously been linked with Tottenham and Newcastle

Erik ten Hag has been interviewed for the Manchester United job, Sportsmail can reveal.

The 52-year-old Ajax coach spoke to United on Monday as the club stepped up its search for a permanent replacement to take over from Ralf Rangnick next season.

United sources on Tuesday said a number of candidates are being interviewed from a list that includes Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique.

Thomas Tuchel is no longer considered a viable option. Ten Hag, previously linked with Tottenham and Newcastle, is the bookies’ favourite to take over.

Erik ten Hag has been interviewed in line with taking over as manager of Manchester United

United hope to make a decision before the end of next month and have the new man in place as soon as possible after the end of the season.

Confirmation that the 52-year-old spoke to United will only crank up the noise about him now being the outright favourite to take over at Old Trafford in the summer.

United are urging caution over the Ten Hag speculation. Sources insist that a research process overseen by football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher was only completed at the start of this month, allowing initial conversations with candidates to get underway which have now evolved into formal interviews.

Julen Lopetegui (left) and Mauricio Pochettino have also been linked with a United move

On the shortlist, Spain manager Luis Enrique is an outside shot to come in at Old Trafford. John Murtough and Darren Fletcher have been overseeing the process of appointing a new manager at Manchester United ahead of next season

There is an acceptance at United that too many stars would have to align for Tuchel to leave Chelsea while the crisis-hit club is still looking for new owners.

It may take some time for Tuchel’s future to become clear, and United want to have the new man in place as soon after the end of this season as possible.

Pochettino, in particular, has been the main contender alongside Ten Hag ever since United installed Ralf Rangnick as interim boss.

However, his odds have drifted in recent days and there is a growing suspicion in the Argentine’s camp that the job is now Ten Hag’s to lose.

At Ajax, meanwhile, the expectancy is that their coach will leave at the end of this campaign.

United will also have to speak to his formidable agent Kees Vos, who negotiated Robin van Persie’s move to Old Trafford from Arsenal a decade ago and only recently added Guardiola’s brother Pere to his Sports Entertainment Group.

Ajax have indicated they will not stand in Ten Hag’s way and have a good relationship with United through their chief executive Edwin van der Sar, but there would still be compensation in the region of £4million.

For now, though, it remains hypothetical. United say there is a long way to go in this process and there is no front-runner.

Default Re: Memandang Masa Depan Manchester United

Manchester United are under growing pressure to make a decision on their new manager - with top targets Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino both attracting interest from clubs across Europe as they prepare to leave their jobs this summer

* Manchester United are feeling the heat in the club's search for a new manager
* Ajax's Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are among the leading candidates
* Both bosses are widely expected to leave their respective clubs this summer
* Pochettino has been linked with Real Madrid and an approach may be imminent
* Ten Hag, meanwhile, has spoken to two other Champions League-level clubs

Manchester United are under pressure to make a decision over their new manager with leading candidates Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino attracting interest from other clubs.

Sportsmail revealed that Ajax boss ten Hag had an interview with United on Monday, although it's understood he is not the first candidate to hold formal discussions with the club's new chief executive Richard Arnold.

Pochettino, meanwhile, is believed to have spoken to United's football director John Murtough some weeks ago and will be interviewed soon, but the Paris Saint-Germain coach is waiting to hear back.

United are said to be respectful of PSG's situation and keen to conduct their manager search in the right way.

Old Trafford sources said on Thursday night that the process is running to plan and is well progressed, but indicated an announcement on the new manager could still be weeks away.

Ten Hag and Pochettino are widely expected to leave their current clubs this summer regardless of whether they land the United job.

Pochettino has been linked with Real Madrid and it's understood that an approach from the Spanish club may be imminent.

United are in turmoil on the pitch and calls to announce their new boss are becoming louder. Sportsmail revealed Ajax boss ten Hag had an interview with United on Monday, although he is not the first candidate to hold formal discussions with new chief executive Richard Arnold. Argentine Pochettino could imminently be receiving an offer from Spanish giants Real Madrid

Although Carlo Ancelotti has guided Real to the top of LaLiga with a nine-point advantage and into the Champions League quarter-finals, Bernabeu bosses are said to be unhappy over the style of play and are considering a change of manager.

Ten Hag is known to have spoken to two other European clubs that play regularly in the Champions League, and has a firm offer from one that interests him.

Reports in Holland suggest it is still possible he could stay at Ajax, having signed a new contract after an unsuccessful interview with Tottenham last year.

Sevilla coach boss Julen Lopetegui is believed to be another name on United's shortlist along with Spain boss Luis Enrique. However, Enrique's preference to stay in his job until after the World Cup at the end of this year could count against him.

United sources wouldn't confirm who is on the shortlist last night but said there have been conversations with multiple candidates, initially with Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher and now Arnold.

Meanwhile, United are hoping to tie Bruno Fernandes to a new long-term contract. Fernandes has been one of the club's standout players since arriving from Sporting Lisbon two years ago, contributing 49 goals and 39 assists in 117 games.

It emerged in January contract talks were being put on hold until the end of the season, but sources close to the Portugal star said then it was 'a question of time' before he agrees improved terms believed to be in the region of £12million a year.

Although Fernandes is under contract until 2025, United are keen to secure his future with a number of players set to leave Old Trafford this summer.
