Man United could complete £12m deal for Liverpool and Tottenham target Yevhen Konoplyanka

Konoplyanka, 24, was being chased by Liverpool in January but a move fell through on transfer deadline day. Tottenham have also shown an interest in the Ukraine ace.

But now United - under new boss Louis Van Gaal - are poised to swoop and they could get the winger for £12m.

A Dnipro source hinted the Ukraine ace could be on his way and said: "Officially, there’s a specific amount for which we don’t have the right to not release Konoplyanka.

If Man United offer favourable conditions and agree terms with Konoplyanka, then no one can do anything."

Konoplyanka netted eight goals in 27 games last season to help Dnipro qualify for the Champions League.

However, he would sacrifice dining at the European top table if he did make a switch to Old Trafford.

Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Executive Director Andry Rusol has admitted that they would be powerless to keep winger Yevhen Konoplyanka if Manchester United come knocking.

The winger was linked with a move to United earlier this month, and despite false quotes attributed to the Ukrainian claiming the lack of Champions League football meant he would rather stay at Dnipro, it appears it is a move that the 24 year old is interested in.

A target of Liverpool and Tottenham, Manchester United have reportedly moved ahead of both for Konoplyanka’s signature and if they lodge the £12m bid that the press believe they will, they will likely seal the transfer as Rusol told local press:

“Officially, there’s a specific amount for which we don’t have the right to not release Konoplyanka.

“If Manchester United offer favorable conditions and agree terms with Konoplyanka and pay us the same compensation, no one can do anything.”

Rasanya tuh pemaen ngucapin itu setelah tau United mo dilatih LVG. Jadi mungkin faktor LVG nggak ngaruh atau blom terlalu ngaruh.

Kanchelskis backs Konoplyanka United switch

Former United winger Andrei Kanchelskis believes Yehven Konoplyanka would be a good signing for United, with reports the club are targeting the Dnipro winger.

In his appraisal of the player, Kanchelskis, who hails from the same Ukrainian city as the 24-year-old Konoplyanka – Kirovograd – even went so far as to compare him to Arjen Robben, a player also linked to United due to his club and international links to Louis van Gaal, who signed him for Bayern Munich in 2009 and also sees him as a key part of his Netherlands team. Robben since insisted he is happy at Bayern and those rumours have died down. Speaking to MEN Sport, Kanchelskis said:

“Yevhen is a good player and he would be good for United. If you are looking for a quick winger then Konoplyanka is not that. He isn’t as quick as I was! He isn’t like a Ryan Giggs or Lee Sharpe who played with me at United.

“He is not a real winger as such and I don’t think there are many of those around Europe at the moment. But he is technically very good, he has good skills and he has a good shot on him. He likes to come more into the central midfield areas and does like to get a hit on goal.

“To me he is like Arjen Robben. He is similar to him and if that is the kind of player Louis van Gaal likes then why not go for Konoplyanka?”

Liverpool were reportedly close to sealing a £12m move for the 24-year-old in January, only for the transfer to fall through on deadline day. With a reasonable fee it would seem a straightforward transfer if United chose to pursue it, although Kanchelskis says players may not be so inclined to leave as they were when he signed for United in 1991 for £650,000, due to the much-improved economy and higher wages in places such as Ukraine and Russia. Kanchelskis continued:

“There is a different mentality these days among footballers. I didn’t come over for the money, I came over for the football. That was my mentality. I wanted to improve my game and England was the place to do it. It was all about the football.

“Now in many cases it is all about the money first and then football second. In Russia and the Ukraine now players are on very good wages. They are comfortable. They have their wives and families and friends around. They don’t have to worry about language problems. They have all the home comforts. So generally they are not so inclined to move away to improve their game. They are happy to stay where they know in familiar surroundings and are also being well paid.

“I don’t know whether this applies to Konoplyanka. It is not the case for every player. But if he were to ask me what to do then, of course, I would say that he had to go to Manchester United. He definitely has to give Old Trafford a go if the opportunity arises. I never regretted it. It was a great time.

“It is the biggest club in the world. It is a great club with great fans. You cannot afford to turn that down if you get a chance to join. You only get one chance to join Manchester United and you have to take it. If any player from Russia or Ukraine asked me then I would tell them it is a must.

“Everything is different but it is a fantastic opportunity. It would be great to see another Ukrainian at Old Trafford. I hope it happens for Yevhen.”

At 24 and with 35 international caps, Konoplyanka seems likely to move to a bigger league at some point. It is unlikely United would be the only club bidding for his services, but Kanchelskis’ words could help sway his countryman, and a deal around the £12m would represent good value should it happen.
