Manchester United have returned to the Champions League... but tricky trips to Turkey, Russia or Greece could await in August play-off round

* Louis van Gaal's team will be seeded in the draw but tricky ties await
* United could be heading to Istanbul, Krasnodar or Athens to reach group

Manchester United can breathe a little easier in the final two matches of the Premier League season after ensuring their return to the Champions League.

It would take an extraordinary collapse now for Louis van Gaal's team to be pipped by Liverpool and lose fourth place - United are six points ahead and have a superior goal difference of 14.

But their chances of catching Manchester City in second and Arsenal in third are also unlikely, meaning they are destined for the play-off round on their return to European competition.

Given the calibre of their potential opponents in this two-legged tie in August, reaching the group phase is by no means a foregone conclusion.

The play-off round, which next season will be played on August 18/19 and 25/26, a couple of weeks after the start of the Premier League, is divided into two sections.

There is a 'Champions Route' which channels through clubs that have won the domestic league in some of Europe's less-heralded nations and ensures representation in the group stage is as broad as possible.

There is then the 'League Route' which takes in the clubs that finish second, third or fourth in the more prominent European leagues. United will, of course, be in here.

Luckily for them, a seeding system based on the UEFA Club Coefficient should spare them a difficult meeting with the likes of Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen or Napoli.

WHO WILL BE ALONGSIDE UNITED IN THE PLAY-OFF ROUND?
The following enter at the play-off round stage:
Fourth-placed team in Premier League (Manchester United)
Fourth-placed team in La Liga (Valencia or Sevilla)
Fourth-placed team in Bundesliga (Bayer Leverkusen)
Third-placed team in Serie A (Roma, Lazio or Napoli)
Third-placed team in Portugal (sporting Lisbon)
Plus five of these 10 teams will advance from the third qualifying round:
Second-placed team in Holland (Ajax)
Third-placed team in Ligue 1 (Monaco, Marseille or Saint-Etienne)
Second-placed team in Russia (Krasnodar or CSKA Moscow)
Second-placed team in Ukraine (Shakhtar Donetsk or Dnipro)
Second-placed team in Belgium (Gent, Anderlecht or Standard Liege)
Second-placed team in Turkey (Galatasaray, Fenerbahce or Besiktas)
Second-placed team in Greece (Panathinaikos or PAOK)
Second-placed team in Switzerland (Young Boys)
Second-placed team in Austria (Rapid Vienna or Sturm Graz)
Second-placed team in Czech Republic (Sparta Prague or Jablonec)

The five teams ranked highest in the UEFA Club Coefficient will be seeded in the draw.
First legs will be played on August 18/19 with second legs on August 25/26

kalo gak salah pengundian grup UCL 2015/2016 tidak lagi melihat koefisien peringkat/nilai klub namun unggulan/pot berdasarkan peringkat klub tsb di musim sebelumnya. jadi kalo pun lolos ke fase utama, sepertinya United tidak akan menjadi unggulan & akan berada di pot 4 cmiiw

udah diposting Oom Zudo sendiri tuh di thread UCL, untuk pot satu pake aturan baru, juara kompetisi bbrp negara unggulan, plus juara bertahan

sedangkan pot dua tiga dan empat, masih memakai system lama, berdasarkan point peringkat UEFA / koefisien
