Manchester United star Luke Shaw withdraws from the England squad through injury leaving Leicester left back Ben Chilwell in pole position to face Czech Republic and Montenegro

* Luke Shaw has become the latest player to withdraw from the England squad
* He follows John Stones, Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in dropping out
* With Shaw injured Ben Chilwell is set to start England's two Euro 2020 qualifiers
* England host the Czech Republic on Friday then visit Montenegro on Monday

Luke Shaw has withdrawn from the England squad to face Czech Republic and Montenegro.

The Manchester United star will miss the Euro 2020 double-header through injury in another injury blow to Gareth Southgate.

John Stones, Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have already dropped out through injury — though their withdrawals were offset by the call-ups of James Ward-Prowse and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Luke Shaw, pictured during Manchester United's defeat at Wolves, is out of the England squad. With Shaw injured, Leicester ace Ben Chilwell is likely to start at left back for the Three Lions

Shaw's withdrawal means Leicester's Ben Chilwell is in pole position to start the two games.

Jordan Henderson, however, is expected to be fit for international duty despite carrying an ankle injury.

The Liverpool captain missed Sunday's win at Fulham, but his club boss Jurgen Klopp said: 'He will go to the national team. He has two or three days still at Melwood, but it still looks positive.

'When it looks positive and he can train, he will go to the national team. He was not able to play today, but it's not that serious. In three or four days, it should be fine.'

Semoga menjadi awal dari kebangkitan timnas Inggris, hehe..

4 Tim, 2 Final, Inggris Merajai Eropa!
Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

All England Final pun tercipta di Liga Europa.

'They are ahead in the pecking order': Gareth Southgate admits Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was omitted from England squad due to form of Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose

* Gareth Southgate says it wasn't hard to omit Luke Shaw from his England squad
* The Manchester United star has been one of the club's shining lights this season
* The form of rivals Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose was the reason behind his snub

Gareth Southgate has admitted he snubbed Luke Shaw from his England squad for the UEFA Nations League finals because of the form of rivals Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose.

The exclusion of Manchester United's player of the year raised a few eyebrows when Southgate named his group for the tournament in Portugal next month.

Shaw has been one of United's standout players in what has been a disappointing season for the club but his performances were unable to win back his place in the national team.

When asked if it was a tough choice, Southgate said: 'No. Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose have been excellent for us so they are ahead in the pecking order. But it gives us a lot of good options.'

Shaw made 40 appearances in all competitions and won their player of the month prize on three occasions.

The headline news at the squad announcement was the shock inclusion of Southampton's Nathan Redmond.

Overlooked since winning his one and only England cap in March 2017, the 25-year-old scooped the player of the year double at Saints' end of year awards after a fine campaign.

Gareth Southgate says it was not a hard decision to leave Luke Shaw out of his England squad

England captain Harry Kane has been selected by Southgate despite an ankle ligament injury, while Harry Winks has also got the nod after groin surgery.

Speaking at a press conference, the England manager said: 'I think he finished the season really well. I think the new manager has had a positive effect: a lot of pace, playing the high press and has started to score more regularly.

'It is a really good opportunity for Nathan.'

England Evolving: Hopes are high that Gareth Southgate's squad is developing into one that can storm Euros next summer with James Maddison and Co adding creativity to side which reached World Cup semi-final

* Gareth Southgate claimed to be certain of path ahead after the 2018 World Cup
* His England squad has started to evolve, improve and move naturally forwards
* Sometimes, careers that look set securely on the right trajectory can stall
* If there is an achilles heel in Southgate prototype then it concerns the defending

When England's World Cup came to an end in Moscow in July 2018, Gareth Southgate claimed to be certain of the path ahead.

'We have a core group of young players in this squad we believe will take us forward and others coming through the age-group teams,' said the England head coach. 'We are starting to see success through the age groups but it's an ongoing process. This team is nowhere near the level they are going to be capable of.'

It was an easy thing to say and to believe. Southgate and his players had given us so much to cheer during that summer in Russia, we would have swallowed just about anything.

Gareth Southgate claimed to be certain of path ahead when 2018 World Cup came to an end

But it so happens that Southgate may have been right. A year or so on, his England team — his core of 16 or 17 key players — are not without fault but, just as he suggested after that defeat against Croatia in the World Cup semi-final, his squad has started to evolve, improve and move naturally forwards.

At the start of a season that ends with a European Championship tournament, which England will play largely at home, there is a feeling that phase two of Southgate's time as coach starts now.

Last season gave us the virgin Nations League, which we broadly liked, and then some drearily familiar free-hit Euro 2020 qualifying games, that England literally could not lose and did not.

Now, though, the road to Wembley — where England will hope to contest next summer's semi-final and final — begins properly and Southgate will on Thursday announce a squad that has a nod both back to the achievements of last summer and forwards to a future that will look a little different.

At club level and in international football, player form waxes and wanes. Sometimes, careers that look set securely on the right trajectory can stall.

Arguably, that has happened since Russia 2018 to players like John Stones, Dele Alli and Eric Dier. Equally, players like Kieran Trippier and Jesse Lingard have questions to answer while dear old Ashley Young may have to accept that, for all his exceptional years of service, he is 34 now.

Five of those six players started against Croatia and Dier came on as a substitute. With the exception of Young, they are players approaching their peak years — their average age is 25 and a half — and there is no reason why they should not return to prominence.

But Southgate's point as he spoke after Russia was that English football now has a production line through the age groups that is moving again. The academy system would appear to have finally provided the England team with a platform on which it can refresh and renew.

When players falter or suffer injury, they can be replaced. With that in mind, last season's international football was notable for the fast-tracking of Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, Ruben Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea, West Ham's Declan Rice and the promotion of players like Leicester full back Ben Chilwell and Tottenham's ball player Harry Winks.

The names in vogue are Leicester's James Maddison (above) and Mason Mount of Chelsea

Add to that the gifted Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, whose season was curtailed prematurely by injury, and the gradual and welcome return to form of Ross Barkley and the choices available to Southgate — especially in creative areas — are very clear.

This time, as Southgate selects for what should be straightforward home games against Bulgaria and Kosovo, the names in vogue are James Maddison of Leicester and Mason Mount of Chelsea. Personally I think the time is now for the former and too early for the latter.

Not all who saw Maddison play for the Under 21s in a disappointing European Championships in Italy in the summer feel the Leicester player showed enough drive and determination in a struggling team. But his form so far for Leicester suggests he is ready for the next step. The 22-year-old was called up a year ago but did not play.

Mount's time will also come, we hope. He has impressed in patches for Frank Lampard's Chelsea but is yet to contribute a consistent 90 minute performance. He may yet have to show a little more if his steady rise through the ranks is to reward him with full England honours.

It is worth remembering, of course, that we did not win the Nations League. UEFA were delighted with England's presence in the last four in Portugal in June because of the profile it lent the finals in their inaugural year.

But in terms of the football, England were disappointing in losing to Holland and then winning a shootout in a dreary and pointless third-place game against Switzerland. If anyone needed a reminder how high the bar remains in Europe, it came in Porto.

If there is an achilles heel in the Southgate prototype it's defending - Joe Gomez could come in

If there is an achilles heel in the Southgate prototype then it concerns the defending. For all their control of the ball in advanced areas, England are unreliable at the back and, though Harry Maguire's summer transfer to Manchester United will only accelerate a good player's progress, the fact that Stones was not a regular pick for City last season is something that will concern the manager.

If Gomez is to become a regular under Southgate then the opening is likely to come as partner to Maguire rather than at full back.

There is no such thing as a squad without conundrums, however, and with just less than 10 months to go until the start of the Euros, Southgate is pretty much where he hoped he would be.

'We have a great opportunity to get to a World Cup final,' he said on his way back from Russia last July. Next summer's stepping stone already looks and feels like a pretty big one.

Axed Kyle Walker is fighting for his England future after being left out of Gareth Southgate's squad for upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers

* Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kieran Trippier were included
* Right-back cohort left no room for veteran defender Kyle Walker in squad
* Manchester City full-back's omission caused biggest stir in surprise exclusion
* Gareth Southgate warned there are no guarantees Walker will get picked again

Kyle Walker is fighting to save his England future after he was axed by Gareth Southgate on Thursday.

Manager Southgate chose Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kieran Trippier as his recognised right backs for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria a week on Saturday and Kosovo on September 10.

He also included uncapped trio Tyrone Mings, Mason Mount and James Maddison, while there was a surprise recall for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his return from a serious knee injury.

Gareth Southgate opted not to call up Manchester City's veteran full-back Kyle Walker. Walker was surprisingly left out and could face a battle to rescue his international career. Walker has been left out in part to allow other younger players to develop on the big stage

But it was the shock omission of Manchester City right back Walker, 29, from Southgate’s 25-man squad that caused the biggest stir.

When asked whether Walker’s omission was just for this squad, Southgate replied: ‘It depends on how well everybody does.’

Walker — widely recognised as one of the best full backs in Europe — has been a mainstay of Southgate’s plans.

But the manager explained: ‘We’ve got to give some opportunity to develop some other players. Without getting Trent’s head too big, too quickly, he’s got to be one of those we look to integrate and give more opportunity to.

Manchester United youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been called up to the senior squad

'With Aaron [we’ve got] a completely different kind of player so we’ve got Kieran as a bit of cover and there’s no point bringing Kyle in if the intention is not to start him in the games. He’s a senior player and he’ll value the rest and recovery as much as anything.’

And Southgate has warned Walker that there are no guarantees he will win his place back.

‘We know everything about Kyle really and, whilst I don’t want to give the impression that we are taking these fixtures for granted on results, these lads are playing at a high level, week-in week-out and it’s a good chance to help them develop.

'Otherwise we’ll get to a tournament and they’ll still be stuck on two or three caps, and we have got to try and get that balance.’

Dele Alli, John Stones and Eric Dier are all absent through injury.

Jamie Vardy won't change his mind on England comeback despite injuries to Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane

* England are set to be without injured strikers Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford
* However Jamie Vardy is not considering a return from international retirement
* The striker retired after 2018 World Cup and was unhappy about lack of chances

An England return for Jamie Vardy is 'highly unlikely' because the Leicester striker is still unhappy about the lack of chances he was given at international level.

The 33-year-old retired from England duty after the 2018 World Cup. But Vardy — the Premier League's leading scorer with 17 goals — has been linked with a return following injuries to Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford.

Those close to the situation say he is unconvinced about a U-turn after his England career was hampered by a lack of opportunities.

Jamie Vardy is not considering an international comeback despite a raft of injuries to strikers. The Leicester star's last game for England was the 2018 World Cup semi-final loss to Croatia

England manager Gareth Southgate has limited options for the central striker role with Kane and Rashford out for around three months, and Euro 2020 warm-up matches against Italy and Denmark to come.

Tottenham's Kane has a ruptured hamstring, while United's Rashford has a double stress fracture of his back.

Southgate has not closed the door on Vardy but there is little interest on either side.

'It's highly unlikely,' a source said. 'Jamie retired because of a lack of opportunities and he would take some convincing that the situation would not be the same should he come back.'

Vardy is aware he could start both March matches but be back on the bench once Kane and Rashford recover.

Chelsea's Tammy Abraham is the only recognised England striker who is fit, with a call-up for Southampton's in-form Danny Ings likely.

As reported by Sportsmail, Southgate — a big fan of using younger players — is also keen on United teenager Mason Greenwood.

England staff to ask Manchester United for Marcus Rashford's medical reports amid growing concerns about striker's fitness ahead of Euro 2020

* England staff will request Marcus Rashford's medical reports from Man United
* Rashford is an injury doubt after picking up a double stress fracture of the back
* Gareth Southgate views Rashford as a key part of his plans going forward
* England medics have talked with United and will continue to receive updates

England staff will request Marcus Rashford’s medical reports amid growing concerns that the Manchester United forward could be ruled out of Euro 2020.

Rashford has become a key part of manager Gareth Southgate’s plans and would be a prime contender to be a regular during the tournament this summer, although Jadon Sancho has put major pressure on the attacker’s starting role due to his red-hot form at Borussia Dortmund.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cast significant doubt on Rashford’s availability for the Euros on Wednesday, claiming that the player’s recovery from a double stress fracture of the back was taking longer to heal than expected.

England medical staff will request Marcus Rashford's medical records from Man United. The England and United striker is a doubt for Euro 2020 with a double stress fracture

England medics have held talks with United and will continue to receive updates so that Southgate is kept fully informed of developments as he plans his final squad for the tournament.

Southgate is desperate for Rashford, 22, to prove his fitness for the tournament — and Rashford is generally happy with the way his recovery is going and believes he can do so.

The United youngster’s strike partnership with England captain Harry Kane — also recovering from a long-term hamstring injury — and Raheem Sterling is one of the most feared in international football.

But the emergence of Sancho, 19, means the England boss has a ready-made replacement for Rashford, should the United star miss out.

Sancho’s form in Germany has impressed Southgate and his staff in recent weeks, and he was already pushing Rashford hard in the race to start England’s tournament opener against Croatia on June 16.

Gareth Southgate insists Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford MUST return to Premier League action before the end of the season if they are to be considered for England's Euro 2020 squad

* England will face Belgium, Iceland and Denmark in the UEFA Nations League
* Gareth Southgate was asked about two of his star strikers on Tuesday evening
* Both Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are set to return before the end of season

Gareth Southgate warned Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford that they must prove their fitness by playing for their clubs before the end of the season in order to ensure they have pivotal roles for England at this summer's European Championship.

The England manager was speaking at the UEFA Nations League draw in Amsterdam, where his side were drawn with Belgium, Denmark and Iceland for the second edition of the new tournament which will start in September, but preparing for Euro 2020 is his immediate priority.

The hamstring and back injuries sustained by Kane and Rashford respectively in January have presented Southgate with a major headache, particularly given Jamie Vardy remains reluctant to make himself available for selection, but both should be fit before the end of the season.

Gareth Southgate warned Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford that they must prove their fitness

Southgate emphasised that match fitness is just as important for both players as completing their rehabilitation however, which will place the onus on Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to ensure they are given significant game-time as both Tottenham and Manchester United chase Champions League qualification.

'All I know is that both players will give themselves the best possible chance of being fit and available before the end of the season, not only for us but also for their clubs,' Southgate said.

'They have to get back playing club football. Their clubs all have important matches.

'Then we are hoping both come through with no issues ahead of the summer for us.'

Southgate was more supportive of under-fire goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who made his seventh major error of the season last Sunday when allowing a long-range shot from Bruno Fernandes to fly through his hands in Everton's 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has invariably performed well for England however, and remains Southgate's first-choice goalkeeper despite his indifferent Premier League form with the manager offering his unqualified backing.

Kane had to undergo surgery on his hamstring and is expected to return to training in April

'Jordan's performances for us, throughout, have been outstanding,' Southgate said. 'I think he has been a key part of some big, big results that we have had. I think that is clear to everybody, but in goal you are always under the spotlight.

'If you're the England goalkeeper then that is the reality of the job so I don't think he will be shying away from that. All the time I have known him he has been a very resilient character.

'He has got a very experienced manager at Everton now to help with it, so I am expecting him to bounce back. The weekend goal is one he would want to do better with, but then he made outstanding saves at the end of the game. That is the life of a goalkeeper.'

Rashford suffered a double stress fracture in his back but is likely to return before season ends

Southgate did his best to appear unconcerned about the potential impact of the coronavirus, which has led to doubts over whether a friendly against Italy at Wembley will take place as planned on 27 March following the rapid spread of the virus near Milan.

Denmark are due at Villa Park four days later and their players will soon be very familiar to Southgate given the draw for League A of the Nations League. England will play Denmark, Belgium and Iceland home and away next autumn, with the group winners proceeding to the finals in the summer of 2021, and the bottom team being relegated to League B.

'The reality is that we don't know, it is an ever-changing picture for everybody, in every walk of life,' Southgate said of coronavirus.

'We're updated all the time by government, with the current advice that it is not looking to be an issue, but of course none of us know what the next few weeks will hold.'

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy open to England return for Euro 2020 if doubts persist over fitness of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford

* Jamie Vardy says that he's open to returning to England squad for Euro 2020
* Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford have both been struggling with injuries
* Vardy hasn't played for England since 2018 but has 17 league goals this season

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has refused to rule out making a return to the England squad for Euro 2020.

Vardy hasn't played for England since the 2018 World Cup, having stepped aside from international action.

However, with doubts over the fitness of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford, 33-year-old Vardy has admitted that he could link back up with Gareth Southgate's squad ahead of this summer's tournament.

Vardy told Sky Sports: 'Who knows? Gareth and I were both agreed that the door would still be open for whatever reason and then we would sit down and have a talk about it [if needed].

'We've not had the chat or anything yet and nothing has been spoken about. The lads (Kane and Rashford) are out injured, but they're looking to be back in time. So only time will tell.

'I'm not going to lie, I've had a few extra days off in the international breaks so I've been able to switch off completely from football and it is always beneficial sometimes.

'Knowing that when you get back it's constant again, it's 100 per cent football every day so it's one of those things that has benefited me.'

Leicester's Jamie Vardy has refused to rule out returning to the England squad for Euro 2020. Vardy could be drafted in if Tottenham striker Harry Kane isn't fit enough for the tournament. Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is also currently sidelined with a back injury. Vardy has scored 17 goals in the league this season but has gone seven games without a goal

Tottenham striker Kane is back in training but hasn't played since New Year's Day because of a hamstring tear.

Rashford, meanwhile, hasn't played for Manchester United since January 15 due to a back injury.

Chelsea's Tammy Abraham, another attacking option for England, is also currently out with an ankle injury.

Vardy has scored seven goals in 26 appearances for England, having made his debut in 2015.

This season Vardy has scored an impressive 17 goals in 25 Premier League appearances and is the joint-leading scorer in the division along with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, he has failed to score in his last seven league appearances.
