Manchester City are confident of landing Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg but fall behind Barcelona in the race for Paul Pogba
Manchester City face an increasingly desperate battle to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, but hope to take a step closer to landing Kevin De Bruyne when his agent meets with Wolfsburg next week. City’s fears that Pogba could end up at Barcelona next year were confirmed Wednesday when two senior representatives of the Spanish club, Ariedo Braida and Albert Soler, met with Juve’s managing director Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici at a Milan restaurant. Marotta later confirmed that a bid of £56.7million had been received for Pogba, but insisted the 22-year-old France midfielder would not be sold. Barcelona are ahead of Manchester City in the pursuit to sign midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus Officials from Barcelona and Juventus have met for talks but the Italian side are determined to keep him City are hopeful of landing Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne from German club Wolfsburg in the summer Barcelona also expect to sign Arda Turan Although Barcelona cannot sign any players until a transfer embargo is lifted in January, and will not know the identity of their club president until an election on July 18, it is understood that they want to put a deal in place for Pogba to remain in Turin next season and then move to the Nou Camp in a year’s time. Barcelona also expect to complete the £25m signing of Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid and do not see that as a barrier to them signing Pogba. Barcelona’s midfield has lost some big names in recent seasons with Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas begin sold and Xavi moving to Qatar. Now with Turan and Pogba looking well on their well that imbalance will be righted over the next two seasons. Turan signed for Atletico Madrid in 2011 from Galatasaray and was due to stay at the club until the end of the 2017 season. The player’s agent Ahmed Bulut was still insisting on Wednesday night that his player had still not spoken to Barcelona but all major Sports dailies were reporting the deal as good as done on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, City’s hopes of signing De Bruyne have been lifted by indications that the 24-year-old Belgium forward will ask Wolfsburg to listen to offers for him when talks begin over a new contract next week. De Bruyne's agent, Patrick de Koster, was coy on whether the attacker would remain with Wolfsburg City are expected to return to Liverpool with a bid of over £40million for Raheem Sterling (right) The German club’s director of sport, Klaus Allofs, claimed earlier this week that De Bruyne would stay and sign a new deal. But his agent Patrick de Koster said Wednesday: ‘Will Kevin definitely stay with Wolfsburg? I await their proposal. Let the club prove that he is incredibly important and that they themselves are ambitious. ‘They can call if they have a top offer prepared. It could turn out to be a ridiculous proposal.’ City are also expected to go back to Liverpool with a third bid in excess of £40m for Raheem Sterling, their other main summer transfer target. Code:

Manchester City step up their interest in meeting Fabian Delph's £8m buyout clause
Manchester City have stepped up their interest in signing England midfielder Fabian Delph from Aston Villa for £8million. Delph had the buyout clause inserted in the new four-and-a-half-year contract he signed at Villa Park in January, just six months before he was due to become a free agent. It ensured that Villa would recoup the £8m they paid Leeds for Delph in 2009, but would not be enough to put off the likes of City, Liverpool and Tottenham. Fabian Delph, who has been at Aston Villa since 2009, was appointed captain at Villa under Tim Sherwood 25-year-old Delph's performances this season have seen him make his way into the England team The 25-year-old is said to have told team-mates that he is set to leave the club, and Villa sources now expect him to be sold this summer. City are desperate to increase the number of homegrown players in their squad having seen James Milner, Frank Lampard, Scott Sinclair and Micah Richards leave the Etihad at the end of last season. Goalkeepers Joe Hart and Richard Wright are currently the only Englishmen in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. City are also anxious to kick off their summer spending three weeks after chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak promised to bring in 'high quality' signings. They have so far failed with two bids for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling and fear losing out to Barcelona in the battle to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus. Their third main target, Kevin De Bruyne, is due to meet with Wolfsburg over his future next week. The Bradford-born midfielder scored for Villa against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Delph (left) could join Tom Cleverley (centre) in not playing for the Birmingham outfit next season Delph is among a number of secondary targets lined up by City and the club are ready to make their move, although the player may have to be satisfied with a squad place after being appointed captain at Villa under Tim Sherwood. Losing Delph would be a major blow to Sherwood’s plans so soon after seeing another key midfielder, Tom Cleverley, turn down the offer of a permanent contract to join Everton. The Villa boss has already moved to replace them by lining up a £9m deal for Lille’s midfielder Idrissa Gueye. Tim Sherwood is looking to tie up a £9m deal for Lille’s talented midfielder Idrissa Gueye Code:

Aston Villa set to sign Idrissa Gueye for £9m next week as Lille midfielder passes medical and agrees personal terms
Idrissa Gueye has passed a medical at Aston Villa and is set to complete his £9million move from Lille next week. Manager Tim Sherwood played a key role in convincing the box-to-box midfielder to join the club after talks at Bodymoor Heath training ground on Thursday and Friday. Gueye has agreed terms but Villa must wait on paper work pertaining to the Senegal international's work permit. Idrissa Gueye looks set to join Aston Villa after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the club Gueye will join Villa next week so long as his application for a work permit is successful Manager Tim Sherwood played a key role in convincing the midfielder to join Villa Subject to all the checks progressing smoothly, an announcement is expected after the weekend. Marseille made a late bid but the player was keen on a move to the Premier League. The transfer will represent one of the biggest for Villa in recent years, surpassing the £7m fee paid to Genk for Christian Benteke – the highest price Sherwood's predecessor Paul Lambert was able to pay. Villa finished 17th in the league last season, only narrowly avoiding relegation. However, with ambitious signings such as Gueye as well as Scott Sinclair and Micah Richards from Manchester City, they will be hoping to fare much better next term. Senegal international Gueye will represent one of the biggest transfers in Villa's recent history Villa have already signed winger Scott Sinclair from Manchester City during this transfer window Code:
