Arsenal stars Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Per Mertesacker gear up for new campaign with first training session
  • Arsenal's stars returned to London Colney as Arsene Wenger put his players through their paces
  • Gunners teenager Dan Crowley training alongside senior stars such as Jack Wilshere and Per Mertesacker
  • Wellington Silva, who has spent the last four years out on loan, took part in the training session
  • Arsenal will tour Singapore before returning to England in order to host the Emirates Cup
  • Gunners face Chelsea at Wembley in the Community Shield on August 2 before facing West Ham in league opener

The likes of Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Per Mertesacker got back down to action on Tuesday afternoon as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger put his players through their paces at London Colney.

A large majority of Arsenal's first team stars returned to training as they geared up for their side's tour of Singapore. The Gunners will take on a Singapore Select XI at the Singapore National Stadium on July 15 before facing either Everton or Stoke City on July 18 as they look to win the Asia Trophy.

Wellington Silva, who joined Arsenal in January 2010, trained alongside his team-mates ahead of what will be his first season with Wenger's side.

England national team boss Roy Hodgson made a point of greeting Crowley at London Colney back in November 2013

The Brazilian winger has had to spend the last four years on loan in Spain with Levante, Alcoyano, Ponferradina, Murcia and Almeria in order to be issued with a Spanish passport, which allows the 22-year-old to play in the Barclays Premier League.

Arsenal right back Mathieu Debuchy trained alongside his team-mates after making a full recovery from the serious shoulder injury he sustained during his side's 3-0 win over Stoke in January.

Wilshere returned to training earlier than expected as he is keen on pushing on with his fitness after missing a large chunk of last season.

There was no sign of new £10million signing Petr Cech, who will return to training at the end of this week along with Arsenal's fellow international stars.

Chile hero Alexis Sanchez and Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina will be given an extended break after featuring at the Copa America.

Their absence allowed Wenger to take a look at the likes of Dan Crowley, Yaya Sanogo and Chuba Akpom.

Crowley, who was handed a professional contract a day after turning 17 in August 2014, has been compared to Wilshere.

England national team boss Roy Hodgson spoke to Crowley at length in November 2013 when the Three Lions were training at London Colney ahead of their friendly match against Germany.

Olivier Giroud has revealed he cannot wait to jet out to Singapore as it is a 'really good experience' to meet new fans.

The Frenchman, speaking to Arsenal's official website, said: 'It’s always a pleasure and a really good experience because you can see the fans are crazy all over the world.

'They support the team until they die and they are fantastic. A proper fan has to learn all the Arsenal songs so it’s nice to hear them singing our songs and the way they are singing is even more surprising because they sing with their heart.

'I remember when we landed in Vietnam very early in the morning but there were 2,000 people who were waiting for us and cheering us on. It was a great feeling and it makes you want to produce even better performances when you get onto the pitch.'

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta pens new one-year deal as Arsene Wenger looks set to abandon plans to buy a defensive midfielder
  • Mikel Arteta had a agreed a new one-year deal months ago with Arsenal
  • 33-year-old holding midfielder missed much of last season through injury
  • The Spaniard could have returned to his homeland but decided against so

Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta has finally ended doubt over his future by signing a new contract.

And the news means Arsene Wenger is ready to shelve plans to sign a new defensive midfielder this summer.

Arteta, 33, had agreed a new one-year deal months ago but a delay in the Spaniard actually signing the contract raised question marks about whether he would leave the Emirates this summer.

Mikel Arteta has extended his stay at Arsenal by at least another year after signing a new contract at the club

But Arteta, who could have returned to Spain, has committed himself and will lead the squad again next season.

He missed much of last season through injury and his return will provide Wenger with a boost going into the new season.

And it means the Gunners are no longer under major pressure to land a defensive midfielder.

Arsenal have dropped their interest in Morgan Schneiderlin, who set to join Manchester United, after baulking at his £25million valuation.

The 33-year-old (centre left) endured a frustrating campaign last term that was plagued by injury

The Gunners remain keen on the Frenchman but Southampton would have to drop their price substantially.

Likewise, Francis Coquelin's emergence as Arsenal’s lynchpin midfielder last season and Santi Cazorla's switch to a central role - as well as Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all vying for roles in the engine room - Wenger believes he doesn't now need a new midfield enforcer.

Meanwhile, keeper David Ospina - who will be sidelined by new £10m signing Petr Cech - will hold talks with Wenger before deciding his future.

He said: 'I have always had to fight for the title position at all of my clubs.
You expect a big club like Arsenal to improve the squad but you must always impress the manager in training.'

One player who could be leaving Arsenal is David Ospina (left) who will hold talks about his future this summer

Arsenal Perpanjang Kontrak Mikel Arteta

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina reveals Everton switch is a 'great possibility' after losing No 1 spot to Petr Cech
  • Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina interested in move to Everton
  • Petr Cech set to become No 1 at Emirates Stadium after arrival
  • Colombian replaced Wojciech Szczesny as first choice last season

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has described a potential move to Everton this summer as a 'great possibility'.

The 26-year-old, who will fall behind summer signing Petr Cech in the pecking order next season, has failed to rule out a move away from the Emirates following the arrival of the former Chelsea No 1.

Reports in Colombia have linked the Toffees with a bid for Ospina and the ex-Nice stopper admits he is open to a switch to Goodison Park.

Arsenal's David Ospina has described a potential move to Everton this summer as a 'great possibility'

Ospina will be replaced as Arsenal's No 1 by new arrival Petr Cech in the forthcoming season

Asked about interest from Everton, Ospina told as: 'They are a very competitive team, which showed significant things during the last season.

'With a good manager and they play good football, it is a team to take into account and a great possibility.'

Ospina, who replaced Wojciech Szczesny as Arsene Wenger's first-choice goalkeeper last term, insists he is pleased with the opportunity to train alongside Cech - even if it puts his starting place in doubt.

'Now an excellent keeper has arrived who I admire,' he added. 'During my holidays I'm analysing a lot of things and then I'll have a conversation with the manager.

'For me it will be an honour to play alongside a keeper with that experience. A goalkeeper keeps learning every day.'

Ospina will not fly to Singapore for the Barclays Asia Trophy next week after helping Colombia reach the quarter-finals of the Copa America last month. He will return to training on July 27, while Chile hero Alexis Sanchez will not rejoin his team-mates until August 3.

Skuad Arsenal 2015/2016 tampaknya makin solid nih, namun tetap saya rasa mereka tetap sulit bersaing dengan United, Chelsea dan Liverpool dalam meraih gelar juara liga. Kalau sekedar gelar Community Shield masih mungkinlah

Petr Cech picks squad No 33 as he prepares to start new chapter at Arsenal
  • New Arsenal keeper Petr Cech wants 'to be a part of the spine of the team'
  • Cech reveals he will wear No 33 shirt between the sticks for the Gunners
  • Spine has 33 vertabrae and 33-year-old played 333 Premier League games

Just 24 hours after completing his first training session with his new club, Petr Cech has announced the squad number he will wear for Arsenal.

He may be the Gunners undisputed No 1 heading into the forthcoming season, but Cech has decided that No 33 will be more appropriate for his career at the Emirates Stadium.

And he took to Twitter on Saturday to tell us the reasons why.

He tweeted: 'Starting new chapter at 33 years of age with 333 games in the premier league ... That's an easy choice.'

Before later adding: 'Hope to be a part of the spine of the team - spine has 33 vertebrae.'

It means that Wojciech Szczesny, who started last season as Arsenal's first-choice stopper before losing his place to David Ospina, will hold onto his No 1 jersey.

Petr Cech has shown he still wants to compete by moving to Arsenal, says Mikel Arteta: 'It would have been far less bother to move abroad and avoid direct conflict'
  • Petr Cech moved to Arsenal after 11 years of service at Chelsea
  • He won four Premier League titles with the Blues before his £10m move
  • Mikel Arteta believes Cech has avoided the easy option with his decision
  • Cech could have moved abroad and avoided direct conflict, says Arteta
  • Arteta has committed his own future to Arsenal, signing a one-year deal

Petr Cech dodged the easy option by signing up for the challenge of ousting champions Chelsea, according to Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta.

It would have been far less bother to have moved abroad and avoided direct conflict with a club where he became a legend after 11 years of service, said Arteta.

Cech won the Barclays Premier League four times as a Chelsea player before a £10million move across London this summer.

Arteta believes Cech (pictured) could have moved away from England to avoid direct conflict with Chelsea

Arteta said: 'He could have gone to another league and said: "My name is forever in the Premier League with Chelsea."

'The decision he made to come here after being a legend at Chelsea was not easy. You know there will be some criticism. I don't think many of them would do it at his age.

'He just wants to take this chance and say "I've got another chapter with a massive club and I want to make Arsenal champions".

'When you get to know him, you have no doubt he will handle that criticism. He is very cool. He's been training very well and he's not here just to sit on his backside.

'He wants to compete, he wants to keep winning. His ambition is coming out even though he has won everything in England and in Europe.

'He's not just a good goalkeeper, he has experience and ambition. He is still hungry and he wants to prove himself at the top again.

Cech (right), pictured alongside Olivier Giroud, arrives at Changi Airport ahead of the Barclays Asia Trophy

Arteta has also committed his own future to Arsenal, signing a one-year deal after an injury-plagued season

'It's really good decision for us. Those type of signings give a lift to the whole team. It is a very serious statement.'

Arteta has committed his own future to Arsenal, signing a new one-year contract after a season when he suffered badly from injuries and witnessed the emergence of Francis Coquelin in his deep midfield role.

'My first option as always to be here,' said the Arsenal captain. 'I'm really happy here, my family is settled here and I wasn't looking at anything else unless they said: "Mikel, you cannot do it any more".

'I had to decide whether I could go for another good season here and I believe I can. We had a chat in mid-season with the manager. I knew exactly what he was thinking and my decision was always to stay so I was relaxed about signing.

'So we left it to the end, we signed and I'm so pleased to stay here.'

Arteta is 33 and has not played since November. A sequence of recurring calf muscle injuries became an ankle problem and ruled him out but he insists he is over the problem.

'That's why I wanted to delay it,' he said. 'I wanted to be sure I could still give what is required at this level.

'The last five or six months were really tough with the ankle injury I had and the surgery but I am feeling great.

'For me it is a fresh start and I'm really looking forward to the new season and hopefully contribute as much as I can.

'The good thing about football is that it doesn't matter what you did last week or six months ago.

'Everybody is starting from zero at the beginning of the season, you need to earn your place. When I've been fit I've always been involved.

'Obviously as the years go you have some players coming in and the competition is strong.

'Francis was fantastic. He showed a lot of character the way he stepped in and helped the team to get more balance and a lot of wins.

'That's what we need, sometimes a player comes in to give you the balance.'

There is a confident mood inside the Arsenal camp. After a strong finish to the season, a second successive FA Cup win and the capture of Cech, they have eyes fixed on a first Premier League title since 2004.

'This is a process that started three or four years ago,' said Arteta. 'Suddenly the club's perspective and potential, instead of selling the best players, they decided to keep the players and keep adding the quality every year.

'Once we do that, we start to show more consistency, start to win trophies, confidence, atmosphere and everything gets better.

'But I wouldn't go too far. First of all is the preparation and the training. We know how much we need to start not like some years before.'

Alexis Sanchez to miss start of Premier League season as Arsene Wenger won't rush star after Copa America heroics
  • Alexis Sanchez scored winning penalty in Copa America final
  • Sanchez is taking a holiday ahead of the start of the new season
  • But Arsene Wenger will not rush him back to be ready for opener
  • Arsenal play Community Shield on August 2, Sanchez returns next day
  • Chile forward will also miss Premier League game against West Ham

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Alexis Sanchez will miss the FA Community Shield and Arsenal's first game of the Barclays Premier League campaign against West Ham.

Sanchez is enjoying a well-earned holiday after a long season which ended with him converting the winning penalty in the Copa America final as Chile became champions of South America for the first time.

He will report for pre-season on the day after Arsenal meet Chelsea at Wembley and less than a week before the Premier League opener, another London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Alexis Sanchez celebrates after scoring the winning penalty to earn his side their first ever Copa America title

Sanchez had a superb summer but his exploits in Chile see him miss the start of the Premier League season

Wenger said: 'He will be back on August 3 and usually it takes three weeks to be competitive. With Alexis it could be a little bit less. He will certainly miss the first game.

'He went into the Copa America a little bit jaded but when he had to turn up in the final he was there, always dangerous, always provoking opponents and the one with the guts to take the final penalty.

'He contributed to a historic achievement. It is something special they have done and he was a big part of it.'

The Chilean star was a key player for Arsenal last season as they won the FA Cup and finished third

Sanchez dinks home the winning penalty and is now enjoying a well-deserved holiday ahead of the season

The 26-year-old has played almost non-stop for two years, including last summer's World Cup

Sanchez made 52 appearances for Arsenal in an impressive debut season in England, following his £30million transfer from Barcelona.

Wenger spoke often of burnout and but rarely rested him and will take this chance to give him a complete break, trusting the rest of his squad not to stumble.

Arsenal started last season without their German World Cup winners and made a poor start, which effectively ruled them out of the title race despite a fluent finish.

Wenger will target a return for Sanchez at Crystal Palace on August 16.

Arsenal stars feel the strain and share a joke as they train in Singapore ahead of their pre-season campaign
  • Arsenal have been training in Singapore under hot and humid conditions
  • They face a Singapore Select XI on Wednesday at the National Stadium
  • Petr Cech, Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere were all present at the session

With a pre-season campaign starting in just a day's time Arsenal's players have been putting the hard yards in to get up to match fitness.

But the players looked in jubilant spirits to all be reunited in Singapore as they prepare to take on the country's Select XI on Wednesday at the National Stadium.

New signing Petr Cech linked up with his new team-mates, as English colleagues Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere looked sharp after injury-hampered campaigns last season.

The Gunners are set to unveil their new away kit in Singapore at just after midday on Tuesday, in a live event involving fans from across Asia.

And speaking on Monday, manager Arsene Wenger spoke about the prospect of seeing new faces in his team's new kits next season.

'We are still open to do something else,' said Wenger, when asked if there would be more new arrivals.

He insisted Mesut Ozil was not for sale, despite speculation in Italy linking him with a move to Juventus.

Fresh from scoring twice for England against Slovenia in mid-June, Jack Wilshere was back with Arsenal

Although he did admit one of his goalkeepers might want to leave due to Cech's arrival.

'I am happy to keep the keepers but it's important they're happy,' added the Arsenal boss.

'We have four keepers. So something might happen.'

The manager also confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will miss the FA Community Shield and Arsenal’s first game of the Barclays Premier League against West Ham.

Wenger said: “He will be back on August 3 and usually it takes three weeks to be competitive.

'With Alexis it could be a little bit less.
