Manchester United's Premier League game at home to Liverpool will now take place on May 13.

The game was due to be played last Sunday but was postponed because of United fans protesting both inside and outside Old Trafford about the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

The clash between the two rivals will be played next Thursday with an 8.15pm kick off and will be shown live on Sky Sports.

United are scheduled to play Leicester at home on May 11 at 6pm, meaning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will now have to play two league games in three days.

Manchester United's game against Liverpool has now been rearranged for Thursday, May 13. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will now have to play two Premier League matches in three days

The game was due to be played last Sunday but was postponed because of United fans protesting both inside and outside Old Trafford about the Glazer family's ownership of club. Thousands of United supporters expressed their anger with the ownership of club on Sunday

United posted on their website: 'Each of our three remaining Old Trafford dates, against Leicester City, Liverpool and Fulham, have been rearranged, with the first two affected by Sunday's postponement.

'United v Liverpool will now be played at 20:15 BST on Thursday 13 May and, as intended originally, the game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

'The scheduling of that fixture means the visit of Leicester - already rearranged due to the Foxes' involvement in the Emirates FA Cup final - has been put back 24 hours to Tuesday 11 May.'

In total United will now have to play four matches in just over a week, with their Europa League game away to Roma on Thursday followed by Sunday's Premier League fixture away to Aston Villa.

There had been suggestions that Liverpool's game against West Bromwich Albion could also be rearranged, but that game will still be played on May 16.

Thousands of United supporters expressed their anger with the ownership of the club on Sunday, with some fans breaking into the stadium and getting onto the pitch.

Flares were lit and bottles were thrown, with both sets of players kept in their hotels before the game was eventually called off.

United are currently in second place in the league, while Liverpool are seventh.

The Premier League's updated fixture schedule also confirmed that United's match against Fulham will be among the first to host fans when coronavirus restrictions are lifted on May 17.

Solskjaer's side will host the Cottagers at 6pm the following day, when Southampton will kick-off at home to Leeds.

Up to 10,000 fans will be allowed into matches in round 37 on May 18 and 19 and in round 38 on May 23, provided the Government goes ahead with the planned easing of coronavirus restrictions.
