Manchester United 'could try to bring Erling Haaland to Old Trafford again this summer' after losing out to Borussia Dortmund in 2019 as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals he's got funds to attract 'top players'

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has got the backing to bring in 'top players'
* United have targeted Erling Haaland before, and he is on top form right now
* Solskjaer managed Haaland during his early career when they were at Molde

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has the backing he needs to turn Manchester United into a 'very successful' team, and may be looking to spend big this summer.

United's owners have come under fire in recent transfer windows for not spending the necessary cash, with the failure to capture Jadon Sancho one of the main talking points.

However, Solskjaer appears confident going forward, and United could be looking to line up a bid for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, according to The Mirror.

'We've got a plan to become a very successful Man United team - and a team that top players want to play for,' said Solskjaer.

'It's down to us to keep improving and getting closer to the trophies. I can't say anything about individuals. But we've got the backing.'

United didn't want to pay £120million for Sancho last year, but may be able to get Haaland much cheaper than expected.

Manchester United could be looking to target Erling Haaland again during the summer window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has the backing from the owners to bring in 'top players'. Haaland has been setting the Bundesliga alight and is one of world football's top prospects

The Norwegian joined Dortmund in 2020 for just £17million, and has set the Bundesliga on fire in recent times. Despite his success, he will be eligible in 2022 for just £66million.

United have targeted Haaland before, and of course there is already a connection between Haaland and Solskjaer from when they were at Molde.

'The owners keep backing the club and myself and hopefully we can improve the team,' Solskjaer continued.

'We are getting better, but we need to do better than last year when we got to three semi-finals. The next stage is to get into finals and establish ourselves again as challengers in the league.

'I talk to Ed [Woodward] all the time and I know we will keep on discussing the progress of the team.'

Manchester United are second in the Premier League, although 10 points behind rivals Manchester City after a run of just one win in their last five.

They will want to finish strongly and put on a good Europa League run in order to attract this calibre of player in coming seasons.

'I keep in touch with him... we'll see what happens after Dortmund': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops a major hint on Erling Haaland talks, hours after agent Mino Raiola suggested Man United CAN buy him

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he still regularly speaks to Erling Haaland
* Man United tried to sign the forward before he joined Borussia Dortmund
* Haaland's agent Mino Raiola said four Premier League clubs could afford him
* The forward has already scored an incredible 92 career goals in 137 games

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he still keeps in touch with Erling Haaland as Manchester United continue to be linked with the rising star.

Solskjaer worked with the Norway international at Molde and attempted to take him to Old Trafford before the striker swapped Red Bull Salzburg for Borussia Dortmund at the start of last year.

Real Madrid and United are two of the clubs to have been regularly linked with a move for Haaland and Solskjaer admitted he still speaks to the 20-year-old on a regular basis.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he still keeps in touch with Erling Haaland. Haaland and Solskjaer worked together at Molde before the manager left to go to Old Trafford

'I think when you have had kids and players through as a coach you follow them,' Solskjaer said when asked about Haaland's current form.

'I keep in touch with Erling - it is great to see him become the player he has become.

'He is a Dortmund player and we wish him well there. Let's see what life will bring later on.'

The 20-year-old striker is already a prolific goalscorer, netting 92 times in just 137 games. The forward has also scored six times in seven games for the Norwegian national side

The forward has already scored an incredible 92 career goals in just 137 games. This season, he has 27 across 25 games in all competitions.

He has also scored six times in seven games for Norway.

When asked whether their pursuit of Haaland proved United had changed their recruitment style, Solskjaer responded: 'One, you know I can't speak too much about Erling - it's disrespectful to say more than I know him and speak to him.

'Who wasn't interested in him a year ago? For me in our recruitment we have done well.

'The signings we have made since I came to the club have all contributed.

'We have to compliment what we already have with other players. I am happy with our model.'

Haaland's agent, Mino Raiola said on Wednesday that 10 clubs in total, including in the Premier League, could afford to sign the striker.

'It is obvious that everybody is looking at Erling as one of those potential new future stars because it's so difficult to do what he does at his age at his level,' he told the BBC.

'He will be one of the future stars of the next decade because we see that stars such as Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo and Messi are coming to an age where everyone asks themselves: "How long can we still enjoy them?" So everyone is looking for the new generation.

'Only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford to buy [Haaland] and give the platform you would like after you've been in Dortmund… and four of those clubs are in [England].

'I don't think there's a sports director or trainer in the world who would say 'not interested'. It's like saying: 'Is there a Formula 1 team who would not be interested in having Lewis Hamilton?'

As well as United and Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona have also been heavily linked with signing the striker.

United failed in their bid to sign Jadon Sancho from Dortmund last year but recent reports suggest they could be swayed by bids for the England international this summer. However, they are expected to do their utmost to keep hold of Haaland, despite the possibility of missing out on Champions League football next season.

Default Re: Erling Braut Haaland

Manchester United 'settle on Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland as their No 1 striker priority'... as new-look transfer team of John Murtough and Darren Fletcher 'receive little encouragement' over potential summer swoop for Harry Kane

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a prolific striker to finally replace Romelu Lukaku
* Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland has emerged as United's No 1 target
* The club missed out on Haaland last year after issues with his agent, Mino Raiola
* It's hoped Solskjaer's relationship with the striker will help seal a big-money deal
* Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also in the race to sign Haaland
* United have considered Spurs striker Harry Kane but a deal appears unlikely

Manchester United will go all out in their attempt to finally lure Erling Haaland to Old Trafford this summer after making him their No 1 transfer target.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and new football director, John Murtough, have agreed to prioritise the signing of the in-demand Borussia Dortmund striker when the transfer window reopens.

It is claimed that Haaland, who has scored 37 goals in just 35 games for Dortmund and Norway this season, is seen as the 'ideal' replacement for Romelu Lukaku - who left to join Inter Milan in 2019 - despite interest from a host of European giants.

Manchester United have reportedly decided that Erling Haaland is the striker they want to sign. New football director, John Murtough is said to have agreed the pursuit of Haaland with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

United attempted to sign the 20-year-old from Red Bull Salzburg in January of last year, but missed out following disagreements with his agent, Mino Raiola.

However, the MEN report that United are confident that Solskjaer's relationship with Haaland will help smooth over any lasting issues with Raiola, who has made no secret of his desire to find a new club for another of his clients, Paul Pogba.

Solskjaer worked with Haaland at Norwegian club Molde and revealed last month that he still speaks to the forward regularly.

Harry Kane has also been considered by United as they search for a prolific striker, but the club are said to have received 'little encouragement' over a deal.

Haaland has emerged as one of Europe's brightest talents - stats from www.sofascore.com. Haaland has a £90million release clause. United have also considered a big money move for Tottenham and England star Harry Kane

Sportsmail recently revealed that the Tottenham captain could be sold this summer, but only for a fee of £150million. That is out of United's budget.

Haaland has a release clause of £90m in his Dortmund contract, although that can only be activated if the amount is made in one payment.

Last week, Sportsmail revealed that United's local rivals, Manchester City, are leading the chase for Haaland, with Real Madrid and Chelsea also keen.

The former Salzburg star is said to be looking for a contract worth £350,000 a week should he leave Dortmund this summer.

United experienced issues with Haaland's agent, Mino Raiola, when they last tried to sign him. Solskjaer missed out on Haaland at the start of 2020 but remains keen to sign the Norwegian. Haaland has been in incredible form, scoring 37 goals in just 35 games for club and country

United thought they had a deal tied up for Haaland in January of last year after Solskjaer flew to Austria for talks with his fellow Norwegian, but the striker made a £19.5m move to Germany instead.

Solskjaer is still keen to sign a traditional No 9 amid concerns over Edinson Cavani's fitness and Anthony Martial's form this season.

Last week, United unveiled their new transfer team, with head of development, Murtough, moving into a football director role, and former midfielder Darren Fletcher becoming technical director after a spell as a first-team coach.

The pair have already begun working with Solskjaer on recruitment, with a new centre back also a priority along with Haaland according to the MEN.

Speaking about Haaland last month, Solskjaer said: 'When you have had kids and players through as a coach, you follow them and I keep in touch with Erling. It's great to see him become the player he has become and I know he'll work to improve all the time.

'He's a Dortmund player and we just wish him well there and let's see what life will bring later on.

'Who wasn't interested in him a year ago? Everyone would say you take the best players in the world. Erling is a top player.'

Rio Ferdinand insists Man United MUST 'dance with the devil' and deal with Mino Raiola to sign Erling Haaland... as he calls on his old club to ignore issues with the agent and 'give everything' to land the Borussia Dortmund star

* Manchester United have reportedly identified Erling Haaland as their top target
* Haaland has shone at Borussia Dortmund but could be on the move this summer
* United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged his former club to sign the 20-year-old
* Ferdinand says United must forget their previous problems with Mino Raiola

Rio Ferdinand has implored Manchester United to do everything they can sign to Erling Haaland this summer - even if that means doing business with his notorious agent Mino Raiola.

Haaland has been linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, with a plethora of clubs in the queue to sign him should he leave.

According to reports, Manchester United have identified him as their No 1 target with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and new football director John Murtough having agreed to prioritise the in-demand striker.

Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand has demanded his club sign Erling Haaland (pictured). Haaland has excelled at Borussia Dortmund - scoring 47 goals in 48 games in just over a year. Haaland's agent Mino Raiola has a fractured relationship with United over other clients

Upon leaving Austrian outfit RB Salzburg just over a year ago, the 20-year-old rejected the Red Devils' advances to join Borussia Dortmund.

But despite that snub, United remain in the hunt for the Norweigian star who has plundered 47 goals in 48 games for the German giants since joining.

And United legend Ferdinand insists his former side have to go all out for Haaland in the upcoming transfer window. The striker has a release clause of £90million in his Dortmund contract, although that can only be activated if the amount is made in one payment.

'They have got to go out and give everything they have got to get Haaland,' Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube show.

'I don't like to talk about players that come from other teams but this guy, we [United] can't afford to let this guy go anywhere else. His only destination is England.

'It's the only place he is going. If he goes anywhere else I will be so surprised.

Ferdinand was speaking on his his Vibe with Five YouTube show about the striker. He has a £90million buyout clause but it can only be activated if it is made in one payment. New football director, John Murtough is said to have agreed the pursuit of Haaland with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Solskjaer tried to sign Haaland during the January 2020 transfer window but missed out

'He obviously loves English football, his dad played here. It's one of his dreams to come and play in England, I'm sure. Why not in the red shirt at Old Trafford.

'Be the guy that brings trophies back to Old Trafford.'

United face a potential stumbling in dealing with Haaland's agent Raiola though. The outspoken agent has a fractured relationship with Manchester United, having made many controversial statements in the hope of securing a move away for his client Paul Pogba. He also git out at the club after their failed pursuit of Haaland in January of last year.

But despite these tensions, Ferdinand believes United shouldn't be put off dealing with Raiola because Haaland could shine at Old Trafford for a decade.

'Sometimes you've got to dance with the devil,' Ferdinand added. 'Because when a player like Haaland comes around, that's 10 years' service.'

syarat pertama Dortmund gak lolos UCL musim depan, lalu kedua Haaland-nya mau pindah ke United gak? harus bujuk Raiola nih, apalagi hubungan manajemen dengan Raiola kurang bagus karena Pogba. kalopun Haaland mau pindah, fee buat Raiola pasti gede nih

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals Erling Haaland 'struggled with bad knees' when breaking through at Molde but the Man United boss will not rule out summer move for the 'born winner'

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with striking sensation Erling Haaland at Molde
* The Man United boss saw first hand the potential of his fellow countryman
* But Solskjaer has revealed Haaland 'struggled really bad with his knees'
* United are heavily linked with a summer move alongside rivals Man City

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the concerning news that striking sensation Erling Haaland 'suffered really badly with his knees' not that long ago in his career.

Borussia Dortmund star Haaland is currently the most in-demand striker in world football and is heavily tipped to make a big move this summer.

Solskjaer's Manchester United are one of the many sides believed to be ready to post an official interest, and the Old Trafford boss knows the youngster well from their time together at Molde.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously worked with Erling Haaland during their time at Molde. Solskjaer recounts how Haaland used to put 'massive lads' on the floor during training

Haaland showed his capabilities at a very tender age, Solskjaer revealed, but early injury concerns have been a factor.

Speaking during a fans Q&A interview with Sky Sports, Solskjaer was in a reflective mood when the subject of Haaland naturally came up.

The United boss was keen to talk up his many abilities, though revealed that issues with his knees were an early obstacle for Haaland when breaking through.

Haaland's rise this season has seen him become the most wanted striker in European football. Sergio Aguero's announcement that he will leave City has seen Haaland as favourite to replace him

He came as a 16-year-old, of course, you never know with injuries, he struggled really badly with bad knees when he came. But I could see someone with a personality.

'I remember him brushing off and putting our centre-back and centre midfielders, two big, massive lads, he put them on the floor and asked them to get up. He's a born winner.

'He's got a great personality, of course. He's proving to everyone how good a player he is.

'We played against Zenit in the Europa League play-off and the referee came to me after and said, "He'll play in the Champions League soon". We did know.

'He's a top personality. I played with Alf [Haaland's father], he's a bit old school in that respect. He's a winner.'

Solskjaer would not be drawn into direct transfer speculation, but failed to rule out a summer move for the Norwegian forward.

In the last few days Haaland has been strongly linked with Manchester City, in a move which would see him follow in his father's footsteps.

As reported by Sportsmail, City will step up their efforts to secure Haaland after recently announcing club legend Sergio Aguero will be moving on at the end of the season.

Default Re: Erling Braut Haaland

Paul Scholes feels Manchester City have the edge in race for Erling Haaland because of dad Alf-Inge's links to the club... but Old Trafford legend is hopeful United pull off the deal as he's 'perfect' for the club

* Erling Haaland is among Europe's most sought-after players this summer
* Manchester City have been credited with interest in the Borussia Dortmund star
* Rivals Man United are also interested but ex-midfielder Paul Scholes is worried
* Haaland's dad played for City and Scholes is wary history is on City's side

Paul Scholes believes Manchester City have the edge over Manchester United in the race for Erling Haaland given his family history in the blue half of the city.

Haaland's dad, Alf-Inge, represented City as well as Leeds during his time in England, two of United's biggest rivals.

Scholes believes those associations could be 'strong' in deciding where Dortmund star Haaland goes next - although he remains hopeful United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can play on his relationship with the player from their days at Molde.

Alf-Inge Haaland (left) spent time at Manchester City and the Premier League side now want to win the race for his hotshot son Erling (right) as he generates interest at Borussia Dortmund. Paul Scholes is wary of City's family ties as he hopes Manchester United can acquire the striker

'You have to think about his dad as well with the City link,' Scholes told talkSPORT 2. 'That could be strong in this situation.

'But let's see. Fingers crossed, if he does move, that he comes to the red side of Manchester.'

Scholes believes United are in desperate need of reinforcements at centre forward this summer and 20-year-old Haaland represents the 'perfect' option for Solskjaer.

United missed out on him in January 2020 when he was being shopped around by Red Bull Salzburg and he has since gone on to elevate his value to the £150million mark at Dortmund.

Haaland has scored 49 goals in 52 games for Dortmund since arriving from RB Salzburg and has interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, City, United, Chelsea and others should be become available this summer.

With doubts over Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani at Old Trafford, Scholes feels United need to go all-out to land the Norwegian.

'He's got that relationship with Ole and we all know how good he is,' Scholes added.

'Man United are desperate for a No 9, an all-out centre-forward. Haaland would be the perfect choice, of course he would.'

Haaland has been a revelation since United missed out on him and he chose to join Dortmund. United need a new centre forward with doubts over long-term suitability of Anthony Martial

Financing a deal for Haaland as clubs and leagues emerge from a pandemic could prove the major stumbling block.

Reports at the weekend stated his agent Mino Raiola wants to make Haaland the first '£1m-per-week' footballer.

In addition to an asking price from Dortmund of £158m, due to significant fees for his agent and father, a deal for Haaland is far trickier this summer than it would be 12 months from now when his £68m release clause becomes active.

Default Re: Erling Braut Haaland

Erling Haaland 'WILL leave Borussia Dortmund if they miss out on Champions League football'... with Chelsea and Manchester United among the clubs on alert over striker's uncertain future

* Borussia Dortmund are determined to keep hold of star man Erling Haaland
* Yet reports in Germany say it is 'unreal' for him to stay if Dortmund miss top four
* Dortmund are currently outside of the Champions League spots by a single point
* Chelsea and Man United are two clubs keen on landing Haaland this summer

Borussia Dortmund's hopes of keeping hold of Erling Haaland hinge on them securing Champions League football for 2021-22, according to reports in Germany.

Bild say that the situation around the Chelsea and Manchester United target is 'unreal' if Dortmund miss out on the top four and subsequently the Champions League.

Haaland has a £65million release clause which becomes active next summer and while Dortmund are determined to keep the striker for at least one more season, there is a growing sense the Champions League holds the key.

Erling Haaland will reportedly only stay at Borussia Dortmund if they earn a top-four finish. Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel are two admirers keen to acquire the Norwegian striker this summer

Dortmund currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga table, one point adrift of Eintracht Frankfurt in the final Champions League spot.

Haaland and Co have three games remaining to overthrow their top-four rivals with games against RB Leipzig, Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen.

But the Norwegian would be forgiven if he was less concerned about missing the competition given all of his suitors are prepared to play in Europe's top competition next season.

Haaland is this season's top scorer in the Champions League with 10 goals, two ahead of nearest challenger Kylian Mbappe, who can add to his tally in two semi-final legs against Manchester City.

Haaland has 37 goals so far this season and is one of Europe's most sought-after players. His agent Mino Raiola has told potential suitors Haaland wants £30m a year at his next club

The Dortmund striker is in high demand and is expected to command a transfer fee of at least £100million as well as wages of around £30m a year.

Haaland has scored 37 goals in all competitions already this season and is widely seen as the most sought-after No 9 this summer.

Manchester City, who are losing Sergio Aguero, Manchester United and Chelsea are seen as three potential landing spots if he chooses to come to the Premier League.

Any move would not come cheap, however, and earlier this month Sebastian Kehl, ex-Dortmund player and now their head of licensed player division, reiterated the board's focus on keeping the Norwegian.

Kehl told Sky Germany: 'Our position is clear - we are planning with Erling. We are very relaxed about that.

'Of course, we have been following the situation. But we had a very, very good talk with Mino [Raiola, his agent] and his [Haaland's] father just recently.

'I don't want to go into those talks now. From a certain point on, we may no longer be able to influence what the future will bring.

'I have seen the boy in training in the last two days and I have seen how hungry he is and the sparkle is in his eyes. We are very ambitious, we need Erling to achieve our sporting goals, and we have made that clear.'

Manchester United are in 'pole position to sign Erling Haaland NEXT summer' when his £64m release clause comes available... with the Norwegian striker looking likely to stay at Borussia Dortmund this season

* Star striker Erling Haaland looks set to remain at Borussia Dortmund this season
* Yet Haaland will have a £64million release clause at the end of this campaign
* Manchester United are in pole position to get Haaland next year, say reports
* Haaland and Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have a good relationship

Manchester United are in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland when his £64million release clause becomes available next summer, say reports.

The Norwegian striker scored 41 goals in 41 games for the German club last summer and was wanted by Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid earlier this year, as revealed by Sportsmail in March.

European champions Chelsea reportedly put in a cash-plus-player bid for Haaland which Dortmund are said to have rebuffed as it was not near their £150million valuation for the player.

And according to German news outlet BILD, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are the frontrunners for Haaland for when his release clause kicks in, which can be activated by the player's agent Mino Raiola.

Raiola has several links to United, with Red Devils midfielder Paul Pogba a client of the Italian super-agent, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are other players owned the representative who have completed Old Trafford moves recently.

Mkhitaryan is also one of three Dortmund players to have made the switch to Old Trafford in recent years, with Shinji Kagawa and new £73million signing Jadon Sancho moving either side of the Armenian midfielder.

Haaland also has close links with current United boss Solskjaer, with the pair working together at Molde when the striker spent two years there between 2017 and 2019.

The 21-year-old has since become one of the top centre-forwards in world football following his rise at Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund, where he is expected to stay for the forthcoming season.

Haaland has begun this campaign with five goals in four matches in all competitions, with current Dortmund boss Marco Rose acting bullish over the German club's chances of keeping him at Signal Iduna Park beyond the summer.

'He still has a long-term contract with us. Just because the public is constantly talking about him leaving next summer, that doesn't necessarily have to be the case,' Rose told Sport Bild.

'In the end, Erling has to decide for himself where he sees his future. In any case, we are happy that he is currently playing for us - and, who knows, possibly it'll be even more than just one season if we write an extraordinary story here.'

Haaland's overall Dortmund record stands at 62 goals in 63 matches and helped the Bundesliga side win the German Cup last season.

Not finished yet! Manchester United make signing striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund 'a PRIORITY next summer'... Reds to rival Man City despite their huge £385,000 a week outlay to bring back 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo

* Manchester United bolstered their attack by re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo
* That move is reportedly not going to affect any future deal for Erling Haaland
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with the young striker while he was Molde boss
* Haaland has stayed at Borussia Dortmund but has a release clause next summer

Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head again with Manchester City next summer in the battle to sign Erling Haaland.

The Norway striker will be at the centre of a bidding war because he has a release clause in his contract at Borussia Dortmund stating that he can leave for £64.5million at the end of this season.

Although United dramatically beat City to the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, it is understood that 21-year-old Haaland, who scored for Norway in a 1-1 draw with Holland last night, is still a top target.

Manchester United are reportedly still viewing Erling Haaland as a 'priority' next summer. It is reported that the return of Ronaldo does not now mean the pursuit of Haaland is over

United came close to buying him in January 2020 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who coached Haaland at Molde, flew to Austria for talks with his fellow Norwegian, but the Red Bull Salzburg striker made a £19.5m move to Dortmund instead.

City were put off by Dortmund’s asking price in excess of £150m this summer, but they are almost certain to be in the market when the fee is slashed in May — even more so after missing out on Ronaldo and Harry Kane last month. Europe’s other top clubs will also enter the bidding.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek’s agent has challenged United to honour their promise of giving him more playing time after it emerged that the club rejected a loan move to Everton late on deadline day.

Van de Beek’s career has stalled since he arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax for £40m a year ago, with the Holland midfielder making just 15 starts. His agent Guido Albers hinted that Van de Beek would have preferred to go out on loan, but the 24-year-old now expects to play more under Solskjaer.

‘There was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England,’ said Albers. ‘But you need the cooperation of the club. It looked like they would, but ultimately they didn’t.

‘It’s disappointing but also reassuring for him — that he will get his chance, his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.

‘He’s been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now.

The young Borussia Dortmund striker is one of the most in-demand players in the world. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the 22-year-old will be 'difficult to keep in Germany'

‘Everybody who knows Donny knows he loves the game and he wants to be on the pitch every week. So you can probably tell what he wanted most.’

Van de Beek was given a run-out in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke at Old Trafford yesterday.

Mason Greenwood also played after he was left out of England’s squad to play Hungary, Andorra and Poland, and scored in a 4-3 defeat.

Meanwhile, Ederson has become the latest City player to sign a new contract at the Etihad, committing himself to the club until 2026.

The 28-year-old Brazil goalkeeper, signed from Benfica for £35million in 2017, joins Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, John Stones and Ruben Dias in agreeing new terms with City this year.

mantep nih kalo dapet Haaland musim depan, bakal sangar lini depan United.

Cristiano Ronaldo insists Erling Haaland must continue to 'work hard and perform season after season to become great' as Manchester United look to sign the Borussia Dortmund star to play with him

* United star Cristiano Ronaldo says he is excited by the next generation of players
* The 36-year-old striker named Erling Haaland as one of the best young talents
* Ronaldo rates Haaland but insists the German star must continue to 'work hard'
* He says Haaland must keep doing what he has been doing to become 'great'

Cristiano Ronaldo says he is excited by the next generation of players and named Erling Haaland as one of the best young talents.

Haaland's contract at Borussia Dortmund expires in the summer of 2023 and the German club are reportedly set to hold talks with Manchester United.

Ronaldo rates Haaland but insists the German star must continue to 'work hard' and keep doing what he has been doing 'season after season' to become 'great'.

Ronaldo has scored 13 goals in 18 appearances since making his sensation return to Manchester United. However, his arrival has not changed the club's plans regarding Haaland.

Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Haaland and have tried to acquire his signature on several occasions.

When asked about Haaland's future, Ronaldo said to The Mirror: 'It is hard to choose just one player to say this one will be the best.

'But I think it is exciting to see this new generation of young players, like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, who are coming through.

Cristiano Ronaldo says he is excited by the next generation of players - including Haaland. Ronaldo rates Haaland but insists the German star must continue to 'work hard' and keep doing what he has been doing 'season after season' to become 'great'. Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick is reportedly pushing to sign Erling Haaland

'Some players can have one or two great seasons, the really great players are the ones that keep doing it season after season, and that is not so easy to do.

'It takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of commitment.'

However, the prospect of linking up with Ronaldo is something Haaland says he would be excited about.

The striker said last year 'I would love to meet him and tell him that I'm a footballer thanks to him. For me, he's always been a role model.'

'I think only of myself, to improve my game every day,' Haaland continued. 'I don't need to talk about Messi and Ronaldo, probably the best players in history. I still need a lot to reach them.'

Sportsmail previously reported that Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick had spoken to Erling Haaland's father Alf-Inge over a potential deal.

It is believed that Rangnick and Haaland Snr have a 'cordial relationship' from the German coach's time as Red Bull sporting director.

Rangnick was said to be involved in the forward's move to Red Bull Salzburg from Molde nearly three years ago.

However, Real Madrid are still said to be the favourites when it comes to landing the. striker.
