Gary Neville backs 'confident' Dean Henderson to remain Manchester United's No 1 despite it being 'the most scrutinised job in football'... as he praises England star's 'courage' during comeback win over Tottenham

* Dean Henderson has kept four clean sheets in eight Premier League games
* Gary Neville says he's been 'impressed' by Henderson since he became the No 1
* Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 23 away league games
* The Red Devils are now 11 points behind Manchester City with a game in hand

Gary Neville has praised Dean Henderson's 'courage' after Manchester United came from behind to beat Tottenham 3-1.

The 24-year-old England keeper was in fine form as the Red Devils claimed a vital victory in north London, to leave them 11 points behind league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.

United legend and Sky Sports pundit Neville, revealed his admiration for Henderson's progress since he took over from David de Gea as the club's No 1.

Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson was in fine form during their win over Tottenham. Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville hailed Henderson's courage since becoming United's No 1

'I've been impressed with Henderson. It's a big ask. I think it's the job most scrutinised in football, Manchester United's number 1,' Neville told Sky Sports.

'You make a mistake it's a position you get absolutely punished in and I'm always wary that when United have had great goalkeepers they've done well.

'He's a young goalkeeper but in the first five or 10 games he's played he's been really confident, really sure. You have to have courage to play that position full stop. '

Henderson has made eight appearances in the Premier League for United this season, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

He took over from De Gea as the club's first-choice keeper, after the Spaniard returned to his home country for the birth of his child in March.

Tottenham took the lead through Son Heung-min's first-half strike, but United fought back after the break and goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood sealed all three points.

The Red Devils are now unbeaten in their last 23 Premier League away games and host Granada in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final on Thursday after winning the first leg 2-0.

Spurs remain seventh, six points behind fourth-placed West Ham and travel to Everton on Friday evening.

Dean Henderson has been given a 'wake-up call' after errors in Burnley win and is 'still learning and maturing' at Manchester United, admits boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Manchester United beat Burnley 3-1 to close the gap on leaders Manchester City
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Dean Henderson has been 'given a wake-up call'
* He concede goals against Wood, which was later disallowed, and Tarkowski
* As a result, the United boss has said Henderson is 'still learning and maturing'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Dean Henderson has been 'given a wake-up call' following his under-whelming performance against Burnley on Sunday.

Manchester United beat the visitors 3-1 to close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to eight points thanks to brace from Mason Greenwood and a late strike from Edinson Cavani.

However, Solskjaer says the England goalkeeper 'is still learning and maturing' after his erratic display saw him concede goals against Chris Wood – which was disallowed for offside – and James Tarkowski.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Dean Henderson has been 'given a wake-up call' after Burnley

It was barely 10 seconds into the game when Henderson dashed out of his goal to claim a long ball forward from Matt Lowton.

The England international was beaten to the chase by Wood, who headed home Burnley's opening goal before being denied for offside.

While early in the second half, Henderson conceded an equaliser to Tarkowski moments after Greenwood's opener - leaving United scrambling for a winner.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer told The BBC: 'The first one is a wake-up call for him, he's a proactive keeper and luckily he was offside so another win and Dean is still learning and maturing.'

Solskjaer says Henderson 'is still learning and maturing' after his erratic display in their 3-1 win. He concede goals against Chris Wood, which was disallowed for offside, and James Tarkowski

He added: 'You never know [against Burnley], anything can happen in either box. Any time they get a cross in with their quality you've got your heart in your mouth.

'We built some pressure, especially down the left, wanted to do the right things and we got the goals we wanted.'

Solskjaer was, however, impressed with Greenwood's performance after he not only opened the scoring for United but put the Red Devils ahead again after Henderson's mistake.

His second goal came in the 84th minute after he latched onto Paul Pogba's pass and cut inside of Charlie Taylor to release a rocket of a shot that deflected off Jack Cork to beat Peacock-Farrell at his near post.

Speaking of Greenwood's performance, Solskjaer said: 'Very happy for him [Mason Greenwood]. He's mixing up his game. He goes inside and outside, he's maturing all the time. It's lovely to see,' he said.

'He's put the work in on the training ground and reaps the rewards. Last season he was young, now he's had almost two seasons in the first team.

'Especially in the last three or four months I've seen how mature he is on the training ground and he plays with maturity and understanding. He's very creative but plays simple when he has to.'

England squad with a hip injury as UEFA permit Gareth Southgate to call up Aaron Ramsdale in his place

* Dean Henderson has been ruled out of Euro 2020 after picking up a hip injury
* The England goalkeeper missed the last two training sessions as a result
* Aaron Ramsdale has been called up to replace the Manchester United star

Dean Henderson has pulled out of the England squad with a hip injury and been replaced by Aaron Ramsdale, after a battle for the back-up goalkeeper shirt with Sam Johnstone.

Henderson had appeared to be Jordan Pickford's understudy for the tournament after injury ruled out usual No 2, Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope.

But Johnstone has impressed England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson since his first call-up in April and sources claim he would have been seriously considered to play ahead of Henderson at the tournament if Pickford had picked up an injury.

It will be interesting to see if Henderson reclaims his place in the England set-up for September's World Cup qualifiers when Pope is expected to be fit.

Johnstone has just been relegated with West Brom, but West Ham and Tottenham are among the clubs keen on the 28-year-old. Ramsdale also suffered relegation, with Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw has revealed he feared for his Euro 2020 place after suffering a wrist injury towards the end of the season. The Manchester United left back was on the bench for the win over Croatia on Sunday, with regular right back Kieran Trippier preferred.

Shaw has worn strapping on his left arm in recent weeks and said: 'I've just ruptured the ligaments across the top of my wrist. It is not too bad — I was a little bit worried, because I thought, if it is bad then I might have to have an operation.'

Dean Henderson wants to leave Manchester United if he can't reclaim his No 1 spot from David De Gea this season... with Newcastle an option for the £120,000-a-week goalkeeper

* Dean Henderson has played just once for Manchester United so far this season
* The English 'keeper battled with David De Gea for the starting place last year
* Henderson has been left out of the England squad for the third time in a row
* He is keen to prove he should be involved with the squad by the 2022 World Cup
* The goalkeeper will look to leave Old Trafford if things don't change soon

Dean Henderson wants to leave Manchester United at the end of the season if he cannot reclaim his No 1 spot from David de Gea, but accepts he is unlikely to go in January.

Henderson has been omitted from the England squad for the third time in a row since pulling out of Euro 2020 in June due to a hip problem.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper tested positive for Covid in July and missed pre-season after taking longer than expected to recover from the after-effects of the virus.

De Gea has seized the opportunity to re-establish himself as first-choice following a two-way battle with Henderson last season.

Dean Henderson is struggling for game-time at Manchester United behind David De Gea. Henderson wants to stay at Old Trafford but fears his career could be stagnating

The goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford has been further complicated by Tom Heaton returning to United from Aston Villa to provide even greater competition.

Henderson would prefer to stay at United but fears his career is in danger of stagnating after making just one appearance this term, in the Carabao Cup defeat by West Ham in September.

He has made no secret of his desire to be No 1 for United and England and wants to give himself the best possible chance of being in Gareth Southgate’s squad for next year’s World Cup.

Henderson still has four and a half years left on the £120,000-a-week contract he signed in August last year.

He would consider leaving in January — Newcastle are understood to be one of the options — but United are unlikely to allow him to depart mid-season.

Henderson is keen to prove he deserves a place in England's squad for next year's World Cup. United would unlikely allow Henderson to leave the club in the January transfer window

Although De Gea has been one of the club’s best players this campaign, United are mindful that the Spaniard could suffer an injury or another loss of form, having conceded soft goals against Atalanta and Manchester City this month.

Donny van de Beek and Phil Jones are also likely to seek moves away in January.

United want to resolve the futures of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard but it appears both will leave as free agents next summer.

Dean Henderson is 'now prepared to LEAVE Manchester United' in search of regular first-team football... but there are 'no talks ongoing with Ajax as things stand'

* Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly ready to leave Manchester United
* The England international has failed to usurp David De Gea as No 1
* Ralf Rangnick admitted he's open to letting a goalkeeper or two leave on loan

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is ready to leave Manchester United as soon as possible, according to a report, with David De Gea firmly established as interim manager Ralf Rangnick's No 1.

Henderson, 24, shared first-team duties with De Gea last season after returning from a successful two-year loan spell at Sheffield United, but has fallen behind the Spaniard this campaign, first under sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and now Rangnick.

Respected transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Thursday: 'Dean Henderson's always been respectful and professional but he's now prepared to leave Manchester United. His priority is to play. Whether it will happen in January or summer, it will depend on the offers.' He added: 'NO talks ongoing with Ajax, as things stand.'

Henderson has made no secret of his desire to become an undisputed No 1 to enhance his prospects of playing for England, and could be allowed to leave either on loan or permanently in January with Tom Heaton, Lee Grant and Matej Kovar all on the United books as cover for De Gea.

Dean Henderson is ready to leave Manchester United in search of regular football. Henderson featured against Young Boys before being replaced by Tom Heaton

Rangnick confirmed last week that De Gea was his No 1, while suggesting he was open to letting players depart as long as United have cover.

'We have quite a few top goalkeepers,' he said. 'We could see that against Young Boys, both goalkeepers [Henderson and Heaton] did well who played.

'With David de Gea we have a top goalkeeper as No 1. This is a position we have a minimum of three if not four or five good goalkeepers. We will see what the situation will be like in the winter.

'There might be one or two of them wanting to go on loan somewhere but we also have to bear in mind we have three competitions in the next six months – Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League – and we definitely need three top goalkeepers to make up for a player being injured or suspended.'

He added: 'If I look at the number of players we have it's still a big squad. We definitely don't have not enough players.

'We also need to make sure that players want to stay here. If they are see not getting enough game time here it might make sense to speak individually with the players and see if a loan deal might make sense.'

Ralf Rangnick tells Dean Henderson he will NOT sanction a January loan move with Man United interim boss eager to keep three goalkeepers in his squad... but tensions could boil over with English stopper desperate for game time

* The £120k-per-week goalkeeper is desperate for more consistent game time
* However, Rangnick wants to keep three goalkeepers in his United squad
* Tensions could boil over with Henderson eyeing the Old Trafford exit door

Ralf Rangnick has told Dean Henderson that he cannot leave Manchester United on loan next month, with a confrontation understood to be brewing.

Henderson, 24, is eager to get consistent game time having seen his first team minutes limited by the sublime performances of David de Gea this season.

The England international was due to take the No 1 spot but he missed the start of the season with Covid and De Gea has seized his chance to nail down a starting berth between the sticks.

Dutch giants Ajax have registered an interest in the 24-year-old and Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Henderson, but the goalkeeper has been told he is not going anywhere next month.

Dean Henderson has been told he cannot leave Man United in January by Ralf Rangnick. The United boss wants to keep three goalkeepers but Henderson has had limited game time. Reports claim tensions could boil over and the pair could be at loggerheads over the decision

United's interim boss Rangnick has informed Henderson that he wants three stoppers in his squad and as a result will not be able to leave. The report adds that the pair could soon be at loggerheads over the decision.

The Englishman has played just twice this term for United - once in the League Cup and again in United's final Champions League group game - with De Gea seemingly undroppable as things stand.

Henderson is contracted until 2025 having signed a £120,000-per-week deal last year. He was previously aggrieved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian failed to deliver promised game time for the goalkeeper.

The 24-year-old is open to leaving on a permanent basis but United are reluctant to sell at this stage. Former United stopper Edwin van der Sar is now Ajax's chief executive and has been keeping close tabs on Henderson.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are weighing up goalkeeping options with club captain Hugo Lloris entering the final six months of his contract.

Dean Henderson has been forced to publicly deny 'hurtful' rumours circulating on social media that he was arrested for attacking his girlfriend.

Reports over the weekend revealed that an unnamed Premier League star tipped for England honours was involved in the incident in 2019.

He was arrested when the woman called police, who took no further action after a community resolution was agreed, and the two parties later reached an out-of-court settlement.

Henderson said he felt compelled to deny the online speculation because of the effect it was having on his family.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the Manchester United goalkeeper wrote: 'Can't believe I'm having to do this but I'd just like to address the rumours that have come to light in the last couple of days.

'There are some sad people in the world that have attached my name to such inappropriate, hurtful and totally false news stories.

'I have a family who have even affected by this so wanted to put the rumours to bed and move on.'

The arrest in 2019 took place after the player's girlfriend rang the authorities, alleging an attack and claiming she received threatening messages at night. Police later seized the star, who isn't named in reports for legal reasons, at his home. He is no longer in a relationship with his accuser.

The matter was settled out of court after the player employed lawyers, with police satisfied that a 'community resolution' had been found.

The Premier League man reportedly paid a five-figure settlement sum to his ex-girlfriend to bury the matter.

'I'd be playing in League One if I hadn't gone on loan!': Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is thankful for time spent away from Old Trafford as he battles David de Gea for No 1 spot

* Dean Henderson says spending time at Stockport is the 'best decision' of his life
* He was on loan to the National League side during the 2015-2016 season
* Henderson has been limited to just three appearances at Man United this season

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has admitted he would 'probably be in League One now' if he didn't go out on loan earlier in his career.

Henderson spent time with Stockport County during the 2015/16 campaign and played nine times for the National League side.

That was followed up by more loan moves to Grimsby and Shrewsbury but Henderson believes he would not be where he is now if he didn't go to Stockport.

The 25-year-old told Manchester United's website: 'I remember going [to Stockport] when I was a young kid.

'To be fair, I absolutely loved it. It was tough, really hard, as a young boy. Going into that division was an eye-opener for me. I'm thankful for the opportunity given to me by the manager at the time, Jim Gannon, for sticking by me because I didn't play too well.

'I was really getting smashed on crosses, kicking the ball 80 yards on to the striker's head and, if I didn't do so, the manager was screaming at me from the touchline. It stood me in good stead and I really appreciate the opportunity they gave me.

'I think my debut, in the first five minutes, their big striker said: 'Stick it on the goalie, he's pooping himself'. I thought: "Right mate, I'm coming for this". So I made my mind up I was coming for it and, before I even got there, he flicked it over my head. These are the things you learn and move on. It was great for me.

Man United's Den Henderson says spending time at Stockport is the 'best decision' of his life. Henderson has become United's No 2 and and an England international since his loan spellsBut he has been limited to just three appearances this season due to David de Gea's form

'It's why I'm sitting here today. If I didn't [go out on loan], I'd probably be in League One now, just going out on my first loan. I fought for it and I stand by it, the best decision of my life.'

Henderson was set to start the season as United's No 1 but an untimely bout of Covid allowed David de Gea to grab the starting position and he has been one of the Old Trafford club's best performers.

The England international has made just three appearances for the Red Devils this season and could be set to leave the club this summer, with the likes of Newcastle interested in him.

HENDERSON COMPLETES SEASON-LONG LOAN MOVE

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has completed a season-long loan move to Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

The goalkeeper will spend the 2022/23 season with the two-time European champions, who were promoted back to the top flight following their play-off final victory over Huddersfield Town in May.

Henderson, 25, is a product of the club’s Academy and has been at United since the age of 14.

The former youth-team player has had significant success out on loan in the past, enjoying a range of valuable experiences at Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United.

Forest begin their campaign at Newcastle United on 6 August before Premier League football returns to The City Ground with the visit of West Ham United on 13 August.

Steve Cooper’s team is set to visit Old Trafford on Boxing Day, when the Premier League season will resume after the World Cup, although Henderson will be unable to play against his parent club due to the rules of his loan move.

Likewise, Dean will not be able to feature when United visit Nottingham in the penultimate month of the season, with the fixture currently scheduled for 15 April.

Everybody at Old Trafford wishes Dean well for the campaign ahead.

Default Re: Dean Henderson

Newly promoted Nottingham Forest announce the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on a season-long loan as he becomes Steve Cooper's second summer acquisition

* Nottingham Forest have completed loan signing of goalkeeper Dean Henderson
* The England international lacked playing time at Manchester United last season
* He becomes Forest's second summer signing after striker Taiwo Awoniyi
* The signing of Henderson will pave way for Brice Samba to leave the club

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on a season-long loan.

Forest were seeking a new No 1 with Brice Samba, last season's first choice, open to leaving the club.

Meanwhile, England international Henderson has been on the hunt for first team football after deputing for David De Gea at Old Trafford last season

On joining the newly promoted side, the 25-year-old said: 'I'm absolutely delighted to be joining such a fantastic club with an amazing set of fans and a wonderful history.

'I want to thank the manager and owners at Nottingham Forest for the great opportunity to play for this club in their first season back in the Premier League. I'm really excited to work with everyone at the club from the manager, players and goalkeeper coach Danny Alcock.

'Finally, just a massive thank you to the fans for the welcome I have received and I can't wait to celebrate some brilliant moments together this coming season.'

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Dean Henderson on a season-long loan. Henderson had been in search of regular football after struggling for playing time last season

Forest boss Steve Cooper added: 'Dean is a top-class goalkeeper and he's hungry for more opportunities to play and to continue to prove himself at the highest level.

'He's played multiple times in the Premier League but has also experienced the Champions League and international football.

'Again, Dean is someone who has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs and we're delighted that he has chosen to Nottingham Forest for our return to the Premier League.'

Among his seasons of consistent football so far was a successful loan at Sheffield United when Henderson was central to their impressive 2019-20 campaign, their first back in the top flight after a lengthy absence and which ended with a ninth-placed finish.

He then returned to Old Trafford the following season and played a big part in Manchester United finishing second.

Henderson is Forest's second signing since they sealed promotion back to the Premier League for the first time this century.

Former Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi signed last month from Union Berlin for a club record £17.5million.
