'I NEVER want to see him play again!': Manchester United fans FUME at Fred after his mistake led to Leicester's first goal in FA Cup quarter-final defeat... with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heavily criticised for leaving Brazilian on for 84 minutes

* Manchester United fans were left fuming at midfielder Fred after Leicester loss
* The Brazilian was at fault for the Foxes' first goal and struggled through the game
* Solskjaer waited until the 84th minute to sub him off despite his performance

Manchester United fans were left fuming with midfielder Fred after his mistake led to Leicester's first goal in their FA Cup quarter-final defeat.

The midfielder was at fault for Leicester City's opener at the King Power Stadium, playing a weak pass back to Dean Henderson that allowed Kelechi Iheanacho to pounce on, round the goalkeeper and slide into an empty net.

Fred continued to struggle throughout the match, being outran by the Foxes midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Youri Tielemens - with the latter dispatching a beautifully driven shot for the hosts' second of the tie.

Despite the Brazilian's sub-par performance, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer kept him on the pitch until the 84th minute, subbing him off for youngster Amad Diallo.

And the Manchester United faithful were less than pleased with Fred, as one annoyed supporter tweeted: 'I genuinely never want to see Fred play again.'

Solskjaer made four substitutions in the 64th minute after his side went 2-1 down, with Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay all coming off - but Fred stayed on the pitch despite having a tough time on Sunday.

Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Alex Telles and Donny van de Beek made way for the new players, but another fan vented his frustrated that Fred was not brought off instead.

Musician Headie One tweeted: 'Swear I can do a better job than Fred he moving unsteady,' while rapper Not3s said: 'I have no words. Fred this is all your fault.'

Another disgruntled Red Devils fan had some choice words for Solskjaer, as he tweeted: 'How the hell did Fred stay on?!! I just don’t believe the decisions this manager makes!! #OleOut '

One twitter user wanted Pogba to stay on for United, as he said: 'Pogba hooked and Fred is still on the pitch? how are United fans happy with this guy as their manager man.'

A separate Twitter account has since been created and is counting down daily until Fred's contract at Old Trafford ends, as another fan exclaimed: 'Fred’s genuinely playing against us.'

Manchester United looked tired during the 3-1 defeat at the King Power Stadium, but will now have a slight break from club football due to the international break - however, the majority will still be in action for their countries.

Solskjaer will prepare his side for Brighton on April 4 for their return before facing Granada in the latter stages of the Europa League.

Man United star Fred calls for 'no more racism' and insists 'we cannot feed that culture' after being sent monkey emojis by online trolls following his mistake in loss to Leicester

* Fred has taken to social media to hit out at those who abused him last weekend
* He was sent monkey emojis after costing Manchester United a goal at Leicester
* The midfielder posted an image of himself taking a knee alongside a message
* A number of other United players, including Marcus Rashford, have been abused
* England youngster Jude Bellingham also revealed racist abuse on Sunday

Manchester United midfielder Fred says 'we cannot feed that culture' after becoming the latest footballer to receive racist abuse online.

The Brazil international was targeted with monkey emojis on Instagram after his side's 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat by Leicester on Sunday, where he gifted the ball to Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of the Foxes' opening goal.

Alongside an image of him taking the knee and the message 'No more racism', Fred wrote on Instagram: 'Social media comments filled with hate and, above all, racism: we cannot feed that culture.

'We cannot aceppt (sic) it. We have to fight it always. We are bigger and better than that. Enough!'

Other comments telling the Brazilian to 'go back to the favelas' followed the final-whistle on Sunday, on the same day that 17-year-old Jude Bellingham was also sent racist abuse.

Fred, who also failed to get tight enough to Youri Tielemans when the midfielder drove through to score Leicester's second, was hooked by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after 84 minutes at the King Power Stadium.

Online trolls commented on an Instagram photo which the midfielder posted after United's Europa League victory over AC Milan earlier in the week, with one user repeatedly sending monkey emojis.

Fred has now turned comments off on his Instagram page, with other users having used earlier posts to spout vile racist abuse.

The incidents happened on the same day that Borussia Dortmund and England starlet Bellingham revealed that he had also been targeted online.

Sharing a screenshot on Instagram, the former Birmingham midfielder revealed that he had been sent monkey and faeces emojis along with a number of derogatory comments such as 'f*** your mother'.

Fred is one of several United players to be subjected to abuse in recent weeks.

Marcus Rashford posted a statement about comments directed at him in late January, while Anthony Martial and Axel Tuanzebe were also targeted.

Manchester United have previously condemned abuse directed at their players by 'mindless idiots' and, in a Twitter post quoting Fred's statement on Monday, said: 'We stand together #UnitedAgainstRacism '.

This is not the first time Fred has been on the end of racist abuse in England. A man was arrested and charged following the Manchester derby in December 2019 after being caught making an alleged racist gesture towards the Brazilian from the crowd.

Earlier this month, the UK's football policing lead Detective Chief Constable Mark Roberts said the response of social media companies in assisting the police to identify abusers has been 'woeful'.

At the time a spokesperson for Facebook, which also owns Instagram, said the company 'will continue to work with the police and wider industry to collectively tackle this issue'.

Roy Keane rips into 'DREADFUL' Fred and says he expected him to miss the open goal he scored during win over Spurs... as the Manchester United star celebrates ending a run of 73 shots without finding the back of the net

Roy Keane gave a scathing assessment of Fred's performance against Tottenham on Sunday night.

The Sky Sports pundit said the Manchester United midfielder was 'dreadful' and that he failed to see why people were praising him after their 3-1 victory.

Keane credited United with 'good link-up play' but said that Fred's goal was the only satisfactory part of his performance and that he actually thought he was going to miss it.

Roy Keane gave a scathing assessment of Fred's performance against Tottenham on Sunday

Speaking after the game, Keane said: 'Just as well Fred scored because I thought he was dreadful, I don't know what people are talking about.

'But again good link-up play from United, which is what they are good at. One-two in and around the box, poor defending from Tottenham and Fred on the spot.

'I thought he [Fred] was even going to miss that [goal], but lovely play.'

The Sky Sports pundit said the Manchester United midfielder was 'dreadful' in their victory . Keane said Fred's goal in their 3-1 win was the only satisfactory part of his performance

Fred's goal got Manchester United back into the game after they went 1-0 down following a controversial VAR decision.

Edinson Cavani thought he had put United ahead before the half-time mark when he latched onto Paul Pogba's pass and slipped it past Hugo Lloris to make it 1-0.

However, the goal was overturned following a VAR review as Scott McTominay's hand had made contact with Son Heung-min's face in the build-up.

Son added insult to injury by scoring just moments after the decision, handing Tottenham the advantage.

Fred provided United will the all-important equaliser just 17 minutes later to level the score.

United went on to win the game 3-1 after Cavani and Mason Greenwood added to the tally.

Are you sure, Fred?! Manchester United midfielder insists they had a 'great season' after finishing 12 points behind rivals Manchester City and not claiming a single trophy

* Fred has insisted Manchester United had a great season despite painful ending
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered defeat in the Europa League final to Villarreal
* United finished second in the league a full 12 points behind Manchester City
* However the Brazilian midfielder was upbeat when reflecting on the campaign

Fred believes Manchester United can be happy looking back at last season and the club's efforts, despite the team again failing to win a trophy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men finished 12 points behind rivals Manchester City in the Premier League and lost in the Europa League final to Villarreal as they failed to land their first piece of silverware since triumphing in the same competition in 2017.

Under the Norwegian, United have been knocked out of competitions at the semi-final stage four times and now have a final defeat to go with that, after once again falling short.

Fred believes Manchester United had a 'great season' despite failing to win a trophy once again. United suffered defeat in the Europa League final to extend run without a trophy to four years

However, Fred was in a positive mood as he reflected on the campaign, and the midfielder was clear when asked if the team is improving.

'Definitely, for me the team's done really well and been growing over the season,' Fred told United's official website.

'We didn't start that well as we didn't have a pre-season. We had the Europa League semi-final which prolonged last season.

'We didn't have a pre-season and got better and better over the season and reached the final.

'I think overall the team's had a great season, we could have achieved more, we wanted to win more trophies, but I think generally it's been a great season.'

Fred was a regular in midfield across all competitions and made 48 appearances last season

The 28-year-old was a regular in the United side, starting 27 Premier League matches and making 48 appearances across all competitions.

And the midfielder, who signed for the club in 2018 for £52million, feels his performances on the pitch have benefitted from the faith his manager has shown in him.

'It's really important to me to be starting in games, to be in the XI,' Fred said.

'I've played and started in a lot of games this season. I'm really happy with this, happy to have been in good form and having a great season together with the entire team.

'As I've already said, I want much more, more trophies with United, I want to achieve a lot here and I'm sure there's a lot more to come.'

Rio Ferdinand tells Manchester United they 'need someone who can see the game better' than Fred in midfield because the under-fire Brazil star 'lets himself down' positionally and lacks the vision shown by Michael Carrick, Sergio Busquets and Fernandinho

* Rio Ferdinand has joined the chorus of criticism taking aim at Man United's Fred
* The former United captain believes they need a player capable of orchestrating
* Fred has faced scrutiny and scored an own goal as United drew at Southampton
* Ferdinand would prefer to see a player with stronger vision and decision-making

Rio Ferdinand has told Manchester United to use a better defensive midfielder than under-fire Fred and warned that the Brazil star 'lets himself down' positionally.

Central anchor Fred has been criticised for his performances during United's opening matches of the season, with one of Ferdinand's former teammates, Roy Keane, claiming that the 28-year-old has few exceptional qualities.

Former United captain Ferdinand has now joined many fans in voicing his reservations about a player repeatedly deployed by boss ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rio Ferdinand has voiced misgivings about Man United midfielder Fred's positional sense. Fred helped United to a 1-0 win at Wolves in the Premier League but has not convinced some

Ferdinand told his Vibe with FIVE show: 'I don't think he's enough of an obstacle.

'He gets off the leash, goes and smells trouble and flies out sometimes. That's not necessarily the best way to put out that [dangerous] situation.

'In that role, for me, you need someone who can orchestrate – not only with the ball, I'm talking without the ball. He can position himself to stop trouble before it comes.

'A [Michael] Carrick, a [Sergio] Busquets, Fernandinho does it. People who can sit in their position.

The Brazil international's cause was not helped when he scored an own goal at Southampton

'You haven't got to fly everywhere at 100mph, but they're in a position to stop the ball getting into these danger areas – they're an obstacle.'

Fred has only missed 14 minutes of United's first three games of the campaign and was a regular for Solskjaer last season, missing all but eight league matches despite supporters frequently questioning his performances.

Ferdinand said: 'His attributes physically, to be able to cover the ground and make tackles, are really good.

'Sometimes positionally, that's where someone like Fred lets himself down. That's not to discredit him too much because some of the work he does do is really, really good.

'But I think they need someone in there who can see the game better, who's more controlled, who's more calculated in their positioning and decision-making from a defensive perspective.'

Owen Hargreaves SLAMS Fred for his role in Everton's equaliser against Manchester United, insisting Sir Alex Ferguson would have dropped him 'for a MONTH' if he made the same error under legendary former boss

* Man United were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday
* Fred was shrugged off the ball by Demarai Gray before the Toffees' equaliser
* Andros Townsend buried the ball as United's all-star squad fell short again
* Owen Hargreaves gave an insight into how Alex Ferguson would deal with Fred

Fred would have felt the full force of Sir Alex Ferguson's fury if the Scot had taken charge against Everton, with Owen Hargreaves believing the legendary boss would have dropped him as punishment.

The Brazilian was barged off the ball by winger Demarai Gray in the 64th minute of Manchester United's 1-1 draw, setting off the counter-attack from which Andros Townsend slotted in the equaliser.

Fred has been a persistent weak-link in the United side throughout his time as a regular starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but they signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer instead of a top-class midfielder.

‘Never ever, not in a million years [should that goal be allowed to happen],’ Hargreaves said on Premier League Productions.

‘That’s what you get paid for, that’s why you’re there, that’s your job to stop that goal. I would’ve taken that personally. He’s got two cracks at it, and both [times] he loses.

‘It can’t happen. Sir Alex wouldn’t forgive you for that, you wouldn’t have played for a month, seriously.

Fred was at fault for another damaging conceded goal for Manchester United on Saturday . The Brazilian was shrugged-off by Demarai Gray, allowing the forward to launch the counter. Sir Alex Ferguson would have been furious with the midfielder after his costly mistake. Owen Hargreaves thinks his old Scottish boss would have dropped the Brazilian from his team

‘He has to win those tackles. And if he loses it, you foul him, you bring him down.

‘You’ve got to win that. You cannot get bumped off the ball by Demarai Gray and if he does, you foul him.

‘United don’t have control of games, it’s their corner, how can a goal like that happen?

‘I know Harry Maguire is missing and they miss his leadership but if you’re going to play two defensive midfielders in there – McTominay and Fred – that goal can’t happen.’

Default Re: Fred

'FRED IS A LITTLE WORKER ANT'

Manchester United midfielder Fred has been a key part of Brazil's success in storming to qualification for the World Cup finals.

Our no.17 has worked his way into the line-up under Tite and performed well again in the goalless draw with fierce rivals Argentina last time out.

South American football expert Tim Vickery believes the 28-year-old has had to fight to make his mark and impress for the Selecao.

"He's certainly not a glamorous player, and when United took that defeat against Liverpool the other week, there were questions in Brazil about picking a midfielder who had been in a side that had just suffered that kind of defeat," Vickery told us. "So he’s not a glamorous player.

"He made his name with Internacional in the south of Brazil, so not in Rio or Sao Paolo, the big media centres, and that means that he doesn’t have a big media constituency. He’s a little worker ant who has to fight for everything that he gets.

"Brazil had a quick look at him before the 2018 World Cup and brought him back not long ago, but when they first brought him in, the thing they really stressed was his physical stats: the amount of ground he covers and the high speed at which he does it.

"They focused on that fabulous engine that he’s got. Brazil are currently going with wingers. Against Argentina, they played with two wingers: Raphinha and Vinicius Junior, and an out-and-out centre forward with essentially a second striker for much of the game, so it was almost an old school 4-2-4 that they used. Obviously, the wingers have to get back and work up and down, but there’s a real danger in that team that the two in midfield are going to get overloaded, and especially against Argentina, who have three plus [Lionel] Messi in that sector and pass the ball through midfield so well, so there’s a danger of playing that formation and getting overrun in midfield.

"Also bear in mind that Fred was playing alongside Fabinho because Casemiro was suspended. Neither of those two are the most mobile, and so what Fred brings to that side is that mobility. He’s got to get around the field, he’s got to plug the gaps, he’s got to be the unsung hero. He’s been doing that while also making a contribution with the ball.

He’s played very, very well. When they beat Uruguay 4-1 last month, he set up the first goal with a lovely little pass over the line. He hit the bar the other night, with his right foot. He’s keeping the ball ticking over, he’s not trying to do anything that he can’t do, so at the moment he’s very, very useful for that central midfield, especially so with his physical capacity."

Fred now has 23 caps for his country, one of the favourites to lift the World Cup in Qatar next year. Since making the bench for the qualifier with Venezuela in October, he has started the last four fixtures in the South American pool and Brazil have only conceded one goal in that time, a consolation for Uruguay in a 4-1 triumph.

When asked how much the United man will be involved at the tournament, Vickery replied: "It depends a little bit on what the system is. If Brazil go with a third man in midfield, a triangle, as was the team in the build-up to the last World Cup, then maybe they don’t need him as much.

"They can have a player with a more attacking balance in that case. But while they have the wingers opening up the pitch like this, they really need someone who can cover ground. I think another thing they’ve found is that they’ve tried a couple of other players in there who are bigger names in Brazilian football, but they don’t play the ball as quickly as Fred.

"One of the things he’s been doing is just playing quickly. Not glamorous passes, just knocking it off first time, keeping the tempo up. Some of the others, like Bruno Guimaraes at Lyon, Gerson at Marseille, seem to need to take time to get it onto their stronger foot and then move the ball, but Fred is moving the ball quickly. It’s totally unglamorous, never noticed, but it keeps things ticking over. At the moment, the spot in Brazil’s starting line-up is his to lose."

Fred, like his colleagues, can concentrate on United matters now, starting with Saturday afternoon's trip to Watford in the Premier League.

Diogo Dalot praises Fred's 'underdog' mentality and insists the Brazilian is 'what we want' at Manchester United because he 'gives EVERYTHING'... after midfielder's match-winning display against Crystal Palace

* Fred joined Manchester United for £47million in 2018 from Shakhtar Donetsk
* He has struggled to convince some fans and pundits during his time at the club
* His form has improved lately, and he scored a stunning winner on Sunday
* Diogo Dalot has praised Fred's determination to prove the doubters wrong

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has hailed the influence of his team-mate Fred following the midfielder's impressive performance against Crystal Palace.

Having joined the Red Devils in 2018, the Brazil international has found it difficult to win over fans and pundits alike, leading to his place in the team being questioned.

However, successive managers have stood by the 28-year-old, and it has started to pay dividends in recent matches.

In Michael Carrick's final game at the helm against Arsenal on Thursday, Fred set up Bruno Fernandes' first half goal, and then won a penalty after the break, which was duly converted by Cristiano Ronaldo.

He followed that by flourishing in his latest outing as interim boss Ralf Rangnick took his place in the dugout for the first time at United. With 13 minutes remaining, Fred curled home a shot from the edge of the area to hand his side a 1-0 victory.

Dalot is fully aware of the scrutiny that Fred has faced in England and has praised the diminutive midfielder for his mental resilience.

Fred's time at Old Trafford has not been perfect, but he may be starting to win the fans over. Ralf Rangnick (L) was delighted with Fred (centre) after his display against Crystal Palace

'He's the underdog. Everybody can criticise him but he keeps his head clear and goes on the pitch, every game he gives everything that he has, and that's what this club is about,' he told the club's official website.

'Even if you lose the ball or miss a shot on goal, you're always going to try the next one and you're always going to fight for the team and that's what we want. Players like that are what we want.'

United's narrow win lifted them to sixth place in the table, and they are now just three points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham.

Fred could be set to play an important role under Rangnick over the coming months as United look to overhaul the Hammers in the race for Champions League football.

Red face Re: Fred

Fred has long been seen as a £52m flop and butt of all the jokes about Man United... but Ralf Rangnick will love his limitless energy and his Palace winner could be the start of a redemption in red for the boy from Brazil

* Fred scored Man United's winner as they beat Crystal Palace on Sunday
* The Brazil midfielder was thrilled to settle Ralf Rangnick's first game in charge
* A £52m signing back in 2018, Fred had become a much-ridiculed figure
* The general opinion was that he worked hard but wasn't good enough for United
* Ironically, Fred has become first choice in midfield for Brazil during this time
* But his high-energy, hard pressing style will be appreciated by the new coach

Every dressing room must have one: The figure of fun, the easy target, the butt of all jokes.

For some time at Manchester United, Fred has been the most likely candidate.

In 2019, he was reportedly mocked by his United team-mates after arranging his wedding to coincide with pre-season because he'd assumed Brazil would pick him for the Copa America the previous month.
