Man City to miss out on Roma transfer target

Manchester City are set to miss out on the signing of Daniele De Rossi, with the midfielder set to extend his stay at Roma this week.




Roberto Mancini has long been an admirer of the 28-year-old and, despite already having a huge squad, he is believed to be on the hunt for cover for central midfielder Yaya Toure, who is off to the African Cup of Nations later this month.

De Rossi has been in prolonged contract negotiations with Roma and he will be a free agent in June, but the Serie A side are now confident he will sign a five-year extension very soon.

De Rossi has been in New York for the Christmas break but his representatives have been in discussions on his behalf and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, they have reached a breakthrough.

City had been monitoring De Rossi’s situation since the summer with Mancini stating that he would be “perfect” for his side.

Kolo & Yaya Toure will miss Manchester City FA Cup tie



Ivory Coast coach Francois Zahoui has rejected Manchester City's request to play Yaya and Kolo Toure in Sunday's Manchester derby in the FA Cup.

"Clubs know the rules," Zahoui told BBC Africa. "I'm expecting them [the Toures] for the Fifa deadline."

Under Fifa rules, players can be called up two weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations on 21 January.

City had hoped the Toure brothers would be able to play against United before joining the Ivory Coast training camp.

But Zahoui insists they report for a meeting in Paris on Saturday before flying out with the rest of the squad to Abu Dhabi for a two-week training camp.

"The national team in Ivory Coast is led by people who are well educated and I was surprised that people in England think that we don't know the Fifa rules about dates," Zahoui added.

"Here, when we call up the players, they are obliged to turn up at the date indicated by Fifa. So when we call them up we know that the clubs need to let them go."

Zahoui said he had travelled to England to discuss the matter with Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who will lose Gervinho to the Ivory Coast.

Gervinho has made 24 appearances for the Gunners this season since signing for £10.5m from Lille.

Zahoui warned managers not to turn the situation into a "stand-off" between club and country.

He added: "I said to the managers, 'Be careful because there's a great expectation here and we need our cohesion. We have our 10 days together and we need a team spirit at our training camp'.

"Arsene Wenger was my coach [at Nancy in France] so we have a close, respectful relationship. But even with him I said that the head of the Ivorian federation won't mess about.

"Don't turn this into a stand-off. Our call-up day is 7 January. I hope and pray they respect this date and that there's not a conflict between clubs and the federation."

The Toure brothers are pivotal players for Manchester City and started the 3-0 Premier League victory over Liverpool on Tuesday.

Yaya scored the winner in both the FA Cup semi-final and final last season, and has six goals in his last 13 games.

Kolo has displaced Joleon Lescott at the heart of City's defence since returning from a six-month ban for failing a drugs test.

Mancini, whose side host United in a third-round clash on Sunday, said the absence of both players would leave City stretched.

Gareth Barry is suspended, fellow midfielder Owen Hargreaves is not considered fit enough, while striker Mario Balotelli is troubled by an ankle injury.

It means City may only be able to fill six of their seven substitute slots on Sunday, according to Mancini.

"We have 17 players," said Mancini. "I do not know how it is going to work. I always said we could have a problem in January. In midfield, we have a big problem. On Sunday, we only have James Milner and Nigel de Jong available."

Zahoui's tough stance will also affect Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote and Chelsea forwards Didier Drobga and Salomon Kalou, who will all miss FA Cup third-round ties this weekend.

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations includes 16 teams competing in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea between 21 January and 12 February.

Wah Balotelli berantem dengan fans United nih

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com — Sebelum pertandingan putaran ketiga Piala FA antara Manchester City lawan Manchester United, Minggu (8/1/2012), ternyata Mario Balotelli terlibat perkelahian. Dia dipukul suporter MU, kemudian ditantang berkelahi.

Suporter MU itu adalah Matt Sherrington. Di sebuah gang gedung Didsbury, Matt bersama rekannya mencegat Balotelli yang juga bersama rekannya.

Matt kemudian memukul Balotelli dan menantangnya berkelahi. Dasar Balotelli, dia langsung meladeninya. Menurut The Sun, mereka terlibat jual beli pukulan sampai 15 menit. Namun, Matt yang terlihat terlatih berkelahi berada di atas angin.

"Mario tak pernah unggul atas saya (soal nilai pukulan). Dia harus berlatih sedikit keras," kata Matt.

"Mario memang olahragawan yang kompetitif, tapi saya juga. Dia saya kalahkan dengan mudah. Ketika pergi, dia tersenyum kepada saya dan mengatakan, 'Bagus, sampai ketemu di lain waktu.' Rasanya menyenangkan unggul atas City," tutur Matt.

Dia melanjutkan, "Saya berharap MU akan melakukan hal sama (atas City) di Piala FA Minggu nanti."

Dan, ternyata harapan Matt terkabul. Pada pertandingan Piala FA itu, MU akhirnya menang 3-2 meski agak diwarnai kontroversi kartu merah kepada Vincent Kompany.

Cerita kemenangan MU melawan City dalam laga Piala FA memang benar-benar terjadi. Namun, tidak dengan perkelahian antara penyerang asal Italia itu dengan Matt. Keduanya 'berkelahi' hanya untuk memenangkan skor di mesin permainan tinju di salah satu pusat perbelanjaan di Manchester.

Ya sepertinya Man City akan menambah skuad teamnya, dan akan merombak lagi pemainnya itu, tetapi untuk memperbaiki pemain tidak semudah itu mereka juga harus mempertimbangkan pemain yang mereka beli.

Vincent Kompany's red-card appeal rejected by Football Association



The Football Association has rejected Manchester City's appeal against Vincent Kompany's red card in the 3-2 FA Cup defeat by Manchester United.

The defender, 25, will serve a four-match ban immediately for his two-footed tackle on Nani.

Kompany will miss the Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool on Wednesday and the return on 25 January.

He will also be absent from the league trip to Wigan on Monday and the home game against Tottenham on 22 January.

An FA statement said: "The suspension consists of a statutory three-match suspension for serious foul play plus one additional game given this is Kompany's second dismissal of the season."

The decision will further frustrate City manager Roberto Mancini - who has defended his call for further investment after drawing scorn on Friday when he claimed the club would struggle to fill the substitutes' bench for Sunday's FA Cup game against United.

City have spent approximately £250m on new players since the Italian took charge at the club two years ago.

However, the club are now struggling with a growing injury list with further players unavailable because they are on international duty.

David Silva is a doubt for Wednesday's home tie against Liverpool, along with fellow strikers Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, while Yaya and Kolo Toure are on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Mancini was forced to include Abdul Razak and Denis Suarez, who have just six first-team appearances between them, on the bench against United and is now considering involving 17-year-old Dutch defender Karim Rekik in the set-up.

"All the people think we have a lot of players," Mancini said. "But we have 19, plus keepers. It is not a big squad.

"If we are unlucky and we have three or four players injured, like at this moment, we can have a problem. The club knows this.

"Until three weeks ago we didn't have any injuries. Now, we have a problem.

"We have players injured and others who went to the Africa Nations Cup at a crucial moment.

"I am not happy about this but we can't do anything about it. If we don't get the players back we will play with the young players.

"If we don't have a central defender we will play with Rekik."

Balotelli: Mancini Lebih Baik Dari Mourinho!



Bola.net - Mario Balotelli melayangkan pujiannya kepada Roberto Mancini dengan menyebutnya sebagai pelatih yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan Jose Mourinho.

Balotelli menyebut kemampuan Mancini untuk mengeluarkan kemampuan terbaik dari pemainnya masih lebih unggul dibandingkan dengan Mourinho. Balo sendiri menjalani debut saat menjadi anak asuh Mancini di Inter. Nasib baik Balo tidak berlanjut ketika Mancini dipecat dan digantikan oleh Mourinho.

Namun meski memiliki hubungan buruk dengan Mourinho, Balotelli tetap mengakui jika pria asal Portugal itu adalah salah satu pelatih terbaik dunia, meski menurutnya tidak sebaik Mancini.

"Mourinho? Salah satu yang terbaik di dunia. Tetapi secara personal saya lebih memilih Mancini daripada Mourinho," ucap Balotelli kepada Radio Radio.

"Pelatih harus bisa mengeluarkan 100% kemampuan pemainnya dan Mancini brilian dalam melakukan hal itu," imbuhnya.

Sejauh ini Balo sudah mencetak 8 gol dalam 14 pertandingan Liga Premier Inggris musim ini. Torehan ini lebih banyak 2 gol dari yang bisa dia cetak dalam 17 kali penampilannya musim lalu. (rad/mac)

Bola.net - Meski sudah menghabiskan 250 Juta Poundsterling, Roberto Mancini masih meminta bos klubnya untuk memberinya dana belanja lagi di Januari ini.

Sejak pria Italia itu menggantikan Mark Hughes beberapa tahun silam, nama-nama besar dengan harga-harga besar juga telah ia boyong ke Etihad Stadium. Sebut saja Yaya Toure, David Silva, hingga Sergio Aguero.

Namun kini Mancini meminta izin agar ia bisa berbelanja lagi, semua itu demi mengganti kepergian Toure bersaudara ke Piala Afrika, skorsing 4 laga Kompany dan juga cedera Silva, Dzeko, hingga Balotelli.

"Orang pikir kami punya skuad yang besar, nyatanya 19 pemain itu bukanlah jumlah besar. Itu pun plus kiper, jadi tidak bisa dibilang besar," ucap Mancio kepada The Sun.

"Jika kami ketiban sial, saat 4 hingga 5 pemain cedera kami bisa kerepotan. Seperti sekarang ini, dan klub pastinya tahu hal seperti ini,"
